Katana walks slickly around Sasha, staring at her intently like she’s her prey. Her teeth bear aggressively at not only Sasha put her people, the black fur blends in with the darkness behind her and us. Sasha seems a little. . .intimidated by Katana. I don’t think Sasha has ever met her match, until meeting her cousin Katana. She had a strong distaste for Katana, when me and Alexander had that debacle at the pack house, he told me Sasha wants Katana and her father, Vet Khan, dead. For what reasons I have no idea, but it must be something serious.
“Cousin. . .it’s been so long since we’ve seen each other. I think the last time we saw each other was when me and my father tried to kill you and Uncle Vet.” Katana’s snarl gets louder at every word Sasha says. She lets out a boisterous laugh obviously enjoying this.
“Why does she want her own cousin dead?” Lyra whispers in my ear.
“I don’t know.” I reply back. At this moment I don’t really care about the relationship between the Pergola/Sapphire/Khan clan. All I want is to get out of this net and go home with my grandpa, nothing would make me happier. He must be home by now from out of town, I know he's worried about me. Instead I’m out here in the cold, stuck in a net with Lyra’s knee stuck in the small of my back.
“She’s mine Katana, you can’t take her like you did Shilah.” Sudden interest flows over me. What does Katana have to do with Sasha’s sister Shilah. When Sasha was prisoner at the pack, before I knew she was deranged, told me about how her sister died as a baby. Did Katana- no it can’t be true I won’t let the thought be a parasite in my brain.
The wolf, well Katana, has been their every step of the way. She was looking out for me when I didn’t even know anyone was. Whatever she has done I will forgive her because she’s a good person. Sasha just wants to make her look bad, in result making herself look like the victim.
In the blink of an eye, Katana goes from being a black wolf beast to being a tall, tan, beautiful girl with long midnight hair. Freckles decorate her face, as long bangs hang over her eyes. I can’t believe that this whole time I was talking to a wolf-boy, I’d been talking to a wolf-girl who was a beautiful woman.
Her head turned in my direction, she stared at me trying to read my expression and emotions. The winds blow her hair in the cool wind, there wasn’t that much light out but I knew she was beautiful. Looking down I can see her hands clutching together, she was angry at Sasha, angry at what she said about Shilah.
For the first time I hear Katana speak, “I did what I had to do.” Was all she said. The words slide off her tongue like warm lemon tea. She didn’t hesitate in what she said, it was definite and strong. She stood tall as she matched Sasha’s stance, tall and determined.
“What you had to do?” Sasha let’s out a wry laugh, not believing what her cousin said. “She was my sister; she was fine where she was. Once I find your father, I’m going to kill you both with my bare hands.” She shows the palms of her hands, raw and ready for blood to flow through and over them.
“It doesn't matter Sasha. I saw the way you grew up, the way your father was. Queen Tura didn’t want that life for her, so I did my duty as a Khan. I will not apologize.” Her voice was stern.
Sasha let’s out a loud growl. It was so loud that it shocks the ground, I wouldn’t be surprised if she busted a bunch of car windows.
“I’ve had enough talking, let’s fight.” She charges towards Katana, teeth on show and hands ready to claw out eyes. She went for her neck, but Katana dodged her and threw Sasha against the tree. Enraged by this, she charges towards Katana once again punching her dead in the face. Some blood sloshed out of her mouth, god that must have hurt.
Now, Sasha’s eyes are red, bloody red. She’s no longer Sasha, but the red wolf. Picking her up by her neck, she slings her across the ground floor over to us. I look at Katana, unable to help her. This is the moment I wished I could have my powers and protect her, like she did me. Her wobbly hand comes to our rope and cuts us down, we fall to the ground heavily.
“Your free, go.” She tells us, pointing out directions for us to go to. Me and Lyra don’t hesitate and start to run, our feet pumping underneath us. As quickly as we went was a quickly as we were stopped. The one girl, Katherine Constantine, with the scar on her face and a new girl stands in front of us. Both look scary and intimidating.
“Quinn. . .what are we going to do?” There's no way we can both get past them, were experienced while they are the elite. I turn to Lyra, tears and fear stain her face.
“Ly I can stop them; you have to go.” She frantically shakes her head; the red hair moves gustily in the wind.
“I- I’m not leaving you Quinn. We made a promise that we would never leave each other.”
“That was before our lives were on the line. I.. . possibly killed a man, I don’t deserve to go scotch free. You do. When you get out go to my house, tell my grandpa what happened, he’ll know what to do.” I grip on her hands, trying to remember the rough calluses on her hand. When we were little, she would always play on the monkey bars, well Lyra would and I would watch. She always complained about her calluses, all the time.
“I lov-”
I cut her off, “I know you do now go.” She doesn’t move. "GO!” She dashes to the left, heading towards the car. I use my powers and drop a tree branch on one of the girl’s heads. “Take me.”
Katherine Constantine grabs me by my arm, dragging me back to our previous location. I see Katana laying on the ground, defeated by the Victor Sasha. Her hair is matted into leaves, while dirt decorates her body.
I don’t know what’s going to happen to me, and I honestly don’t care. As long as Lyra’s ok, then that’s fine with me. I dragged her into all of this, she’s innocent in the game. If anyone’s going to lose it’s me. Sasha looks at me with disgust, looking behind me I can tell she’s searching for Lyra. She’s long gone now.
“K.C. where’s the red-head girl?” She breaths out.
“She got away Princess.” She replies. Anger engulfs Sasha as her fist tighten together, after a few seconds she calms down.
“Fine, I’ll have people go after her she can’t get far. Throw the Zastitnik and that dog in the car.” In the distance, behind the shadows sits a white Van. The types of vans you run past because you think you’ll get kidnapped. Two guards open up the doors, I swear I heard the sounds of Sasha’s victims screams come out the door.
“Where are you taking us.” I yell at her.
She stops in her tracks; she turns to me slowly. A grim smile forms on her lips, then she looks down at Katana. “We're going to Oslow, Katana’s going back home.”
Oslow? What the hell is Oslow? I thought Katana and the other Khans lived on the Island of Khans. Is this like. . .a prison for Khans or something? I don’t fight the guards as they carry me to the van, black engulfs as I’m thrown in the van.
I think to myself, “did I mess up”, “should I have run?” It’s too late to regret my decision, I did the right thing in letting Lyra go. After I was thrown in the van, later came Katana. She looked so beat up and worn out I felt really bad for her. Once they shut the door, I help her up, trying to do the best I could. The only reason she’s in this situation is because of me.
I’m the cause of the all.
As the van starts up, I watch Will as his body lays on the ground. I look down at my hands, horror of what I did comes back to me. I’m officially a killer, these powers are the devil. I can’t even control them, I never want to use them again. I wonder how Lyra got on, did they catch her? Is she at the house by now? Is Alexander out searching for me? I bet he isn’t, I wouldn’t look for me either.
