Capítulo 38: 38. The Infamous Princess
After they had boarded the car, Bai Xing introduced RuQian to his daughter, Bai Ruan, and Xiao Ruan had been so excited that she instantly became RuQian's friend and played with her, talking about princesses.
Bai Xing had to ask RuQian many questions but he did not want to disturb his enthusiastic daughter.
RuQian had said she wanted to see their house so the car headed in the direction of his home. His wife was at work, currently she was the breadwinner in the family.
He felt like he had failed his wife, she was very good at her job but she was being mistreated, she could not leave her job seeing as there was no other income.
He wanted to help her out in someway but he was not able to. He cursed at himself every time but had to stay strong.
Soon they arrived at their apartment building, he felt shameful when he thought RuQian would enter such a dirty building, when he saw her not bat an eyelid though, he realized she must be a nice person not to curse out.
He had never really given a closer look at how bad the building looked. It was already not a good neighborhood and on top of that, the paint had faded, mold had grown, green moss covered most of the building.
If they had not stayed there for so long, his daughter would have been scared by this building. They lived on the third floor, while they were climbing the stairs, he recognized the dirty floor, cigarette butts lying around, some beer cans thrown over, people's garbage bags were always placed in the hallways.
He wanted to dig a hole in the ground and hide there. As his daughter mentioned, RuQian did look like a princess, if she really would be able to offer him all the terms of the contract and if he wasn't wrong with his guess she was an heiress. A rich heiress like her, in a place like this! It was so shameful!
They quickly arrived at their house, he opened the door and the three entered into the dimly lit living room. It was mid afternoon but the windows were covered so there wasn't much lighting. Bai Xing pulled the curtains open, flooding the house with natural light.
The house was not bad, RuQian could see they had made the most of what they could. The neighbourhood did not look so good but the house was alright, still she did not want Xiao Ruan to stay in this kind of a neighborhood for another minute.
"Let us discuss the contract now, I have something else later." Yes, she had to get some sleep.
Bai Xing misunderstood her urgency to think she wanted to get out of this place as soon as she could but he could not even blame her. It was really bad.
"Please take a seat. Xiao Ruan, go play in your room for a while. Your big sister and I have something to talk about." He tried coaxing his daughter. He had seen during the car ride how fond Xiao Ruan had grown of RuQian and he could see that RuQian did not mind it, in fact RuQian had shown a similar fondness towards the little girl.
His daughter looked a little hesitant but when RuQian gave her a reassuring smile she skipped happily to her room. It had been a while since he saw his daughter this happy.
"What do you think of the contract?" RuQian got to the point after Xiao Ruan left.
"Umm..." Bai Xing hesitated slightly.
"What else do you need?" Seeing his hesitation, RuQian thought he needed something else.
"No no I don't need anything else. It's just that..."
RuQian patiently waited for Bai Xing to finish.
Bai Xing sighed seeing her expressionless face, this woman was so hard to read, unless she was in the presence of his daughter, there was little to no expression on her face. He could not understand how she could become an actress.
After deliberating for a while he decided to just ask what he had in his mind. "You said you are a fifteen year old, I don't understand how you would be able to provide for everything written in the contract." He blurted out.
He thought RuQian would get angry at him, but when he lifted his head, he saw the same expressionless face, "I am Zhang Wennai's granddaughter." She calmly replied.
RuQian did not use any of her grandfather's money but it did not mean Bai Xing had to know where she got the money from. After her rebirth RuQian had started investing in the stock market, in different plots and had dabbled with money in different areas, after all these months she had a huge amount of money. She had saved a lot of that for the business she would start later on but she could use the extra money.
Bai Xing just needed a sense of security that he would indeed be paid and given the mentioned benefits and that he was not being scammed.
"The loan you have taken can be paid with your salary in installments." If RuQian wanted she could pay that off too but she needed Bai Xing to know the mistakes he made. She wanted to help his family not him. He should have made the right choices from the start. Any person should protect their family but Bai Xing had failed to do so, so this would be his lesson.
Bai Xing finally understood how RuQian could pay him, she indeed was an heiress. Everyone in Imperial City knew who Zhang Wennai was. He married the greatest businesswoman of all time, a legend in the business industry. It was said that she had a student whom she regarded dearly but no one knew who that person was.
Zhang Wennai had married his daughter to Su Ting, a not so good businessman, there were rumors of Su Ting's illegal trades, his affairs all over the city but Zhang Wennai never dealt with him so people figured he did not care for his daughter.
His daughter had given birth to a girl but the girl's identity was kept hidden. After the deaths of both the matriarch and the daughter of the Zhang household everyone had speculated Zhang Wennai would take Su Ting into his fold but that never happened.
It was said that Zhang Wennai doted on his granddaughter much more than he ever cared for even his daughter. It was said that she was the princess of the family, the girl had been loved by her mother and her grandparents since she was young.
The great Zhang Xie who was said to be stone faced even in front of her own husband was said to have treated her granddaughter like the princess she was. Nobody had ever been able to confirm any of these rumors as the identity of the princess was unknown.
Now Bai Xing had seen the infamous princess of the Zhang Family. This was her?
'Is this really her? I have the opportunity to see her?'
RuQian saw his expression and understood his thoughts, "My grandfather will be holding a party on my birthday.That will be my introduction. Everyone will know of my identity soon enough."
She had been waiting for this party. She would not let what happened in her previous life repeat this time!
