Capítulo 33: Defense of Vale (Forgotten Tale)

POV Ultear Milkovich

The day had finally arrived for the Battle of Beacon and she knew it before anyone else, but even so it had managed to catch her a bit my surprise. Whether through luck or calculation, Salem hid this invasion from her future sight until just two hours before her arrival.

The moment she learned the truth, Ultear immediately stared calculating, and then sent Amber to Amity Coliseum while she and Uriel headed to Beacon Academy, and were currently on the lift heading to the headmaster's office.

When the elevator opened, Ultear saw Glynda Goodwitch and the duo stepped out calmly "Bale is about to be attacked by Salem and an army of Grimm." Ultear announced to the Vice Headmistress "Go help out. I'll need to borrow Ozpin to reach the vault, and awaken Death, or many more will die."

Glynda seemed a bit conflicted for a moment, then resolved herself and stepped into the elevator to leave while Ultear and Uriel entered Ozpin's office.

"Is there a problem you have foreseen?" Ozpin asked Ultear, well aware of Ultear's unique magic by this point.

"Salem is coming personally." Ultear explained "I have to speed up Death's awakening, or else Vale will be completely destroyed." she warned "Bring us to the vault. We haven't much time."

"How much time?" Ozpin asked with concern.

A siren started going off, and interrupted Strife's happy moment.

"Alert...Incoming Grimm Attack...Threat level...sixteen...Please seek shelter in a calm and orderly manner" a computerized voice announced.

Ozpin frowned when he heard that, feeling conflicted, but then he recalled Ultear's magic and decided he had to trust her for now.

Ozpin stood up and nodded "Lets go" he agreed and headed towards the elevator. It took about ten seconds for it to come back up, though "Where is Glynda?" he asked,

"We sent her out to help the people of Vale. She will be fine, just focus on getting to Death for now." Ultear insisted.

"If you could have woke him up at any time, why wait so long?" Ozpin asked while stepping into the lift.

"This method is very self-destructive to myself" Ultear insisted "Because of Death's semblance, I should be able to survive it if I am healed with that fast enough after I am done, but Death would not want me to even try this unless there was absolutely no other choice." she clenched her hands "Even if it is unrequited, I love him, and I'm not afraid to give my everything to help him out, but I also have to respect his feelings. I don't want to make him feel guilty because of what I'll have to endure. He asked me to watch over Vale in his absence and to protect the people here, and I'll do whatever it takes to live up to his expectations for me."

POV Ozpin

Ozpin nodded, not certain what else he could do, really. Here, another young woman had declared that she was in love with Death, just like the Spring Maiden, Neo, and his own granddaughter, Amber. It seemed that Death was not in a relationship with this particular young woman, but he could tell by the look in her eyes that her love had reached the point of fanatical worship.

The lift reached the Vault, and the doors opened, and he started stepping out of the elevator before feeling a sharp pain in his back.

"Why, Ultear?" Uriel asked with shock.

Feeling weak, Ozpin turned around and faced the two women, and saw a bloody dagger in Ultear's hand, and it his him that she had stabbed him in the back "W...why?"

"It's nothing personal Ozpin." Ultear insisted "You would have hesitated at an inopportune moment and caused distracted me from waking up Death. You may have had good intentions, Ozpin, but your actions would have led to the destruction of Vale and hundreds of millions of deaths that could have been avoided. I have viewed ten-thousand iterations of the future where you make the same mistake every single time. For the people of Vale, I cannot allow that to happen. This is the only way I can save them."

Hearing her explanation, he had a solemn expression. He realized that while her motivations were different, this girl was not that different from him, doing what was necessary to save the people of Remnant without hesitation, it was just unfortunate that he couldn't save them himself.

"Under....stood..." he said weakly "Leave...it...to you..." as he said this, he felt at peace, and then nothing.

POV Ultear Milkovich

Seeing Ozpin pass away, she looked at Uriel "The thing I have to endure will be difficult to watch. He did not have the stomach to watch it and would have tried to 'help' me, and in so doing, dooming hundreds of millions."

Hearing Ultear's explanation, Uriel could only sigh and nod "I wont interfere."

Ultear smiled and nodded "I know you wont. That is why I brought you with me instead of Amber. You are hardened against such things way more then Ozpin or Amber.

POV Strife Belladonna

Having individual rooms really had it's perks. After losing in the Vytal Festival Tournament to team RWBY, he had been depressed, but he was completely over it after spending the day in his room after Vernal came by to comfort him. Ever since he had come to Beacon, he had only been able to meet Bernal on weekends or break for the most part, and they would usually end up making love to each other.

Unlike the Vernal that Death would have recognized from the videos provided by his system, this Vernal was not raised in the Branwen Tribe, and had a man that she was in love with, so her actually was quite a bit more feminine then her original counterpart, with thick and flowing brown hair that went two thirds of the way down her back, and while she was still damn competent in a fight, her aura that she projected outward was a bit more feminine.

Strife felt quite fortunate to have her, considering that she basically revered him like a hero or saint. Strife did not believe that he was either of those things, but was always happy to bathe in the affection that he showed him with.

He stared at her beautiful face which was resting on his shoulder currently, wayching her seem content as she slept, and feeling as though he could just watch her for hours nd be completely happy.

A siren started going off, and interrupted Strife's happy moment.

"Alert...Incoming Grimm Attack...Threat level...sixteen...Please seek shelter in a calm and orderly manner" a computerized voice announced.

The sirens, of course, ended the tranquil moment for Vernal as well. She woke up, and instinctively grabbed hold of Strife, seeming a bit afraid. She had never even heard of a threat level sixteen "Isn't fifteen supposed to be the highest level?" she asked.

"This world is not as safe as people think." Strife admitted to Vernal "I...am not certain about what threat level sixteen means, but if I were to guess, I'd assume that the Queen of the Grimm has come personally." Death had told his siblings all about Salem and his true mission a couple days into the school year, but he had never imagined that the confrontation with Salem would come so soon.

Strife reluctantly got out of bed to get dressed "Staying here and waiting for the threat to pass isn't an option, my love. Get dressed and stay near me. I'll do my best to keep you safe." even saying that felt unfortunate to Strife, who saw Vernal putting on clothes as akin to covering up a work of art, but they were going outside, and it was a work of art meant for only his eyes only, and no one else.

Once they were both dressed, Strife left his room, holding Vernal close to him so that no harm would befall her, as he headed to the Courtyard, where he met many others, including Fury, War, and Glynda Goodwitch, who seemed to be taking charge at the moment. Also present was three quarters of Team FNKI, with only Neon being absent.

POV Uriel

Standing before the pod that contained Death, Ultear was rapidly accelerating time inside of it, Uriel realized, and as a result she was also observing Ultear Milkovich visibly age as well. After starting off with her youth restored, Ultear was now to the point where she looked like she was in the latter part of her 40's.

Uriel could also tell that though she tried her best to hide it, she could just feel that as this magic which Uriel was using seemed like it was tearing Ultear apart from the inside according to the look in her eyes, or something similar.

Uriel could now understand why it was impossible for someone less disciplined then herself to stay back and not intervene. She wondered if this plan would really work, but it was too late to doubt Ultear now. The whole world seemed to have been shaking for the last hour that they had been here, though it was eerily silent now.

'Is it over? Is Vale no more? What am I even doing here? What is the plan?' Uriel started wondering these things just before Ultear finally relaxed "Now Vale can be saved...So there is only one thing left to do..." she heard Ultear announce

POV Ultear Milkovich

"LAST AGES!" Ultear called out. She had stockpiled magic energy for years to be able to activate this one spell at a crucial moment, not wanting it to be as weak as it had been the last time she had used it.

She exempted Death from the spells effect, and proceeded to rewind time! The world around her warped faster and faster, until at last two and a half hours had been reversed, but in the end she looked like an ancient old lady.

Time snapped back into place, and she found herself back in Amber's apartment in a meditative position.

"Oh brothers, what happened?" Amber suddenly asked.

------

POV Amber Quince

Ultear had just called her into the room she had been meditating in, and as she approached her roommate, her appearance in an instant suddenly became that of a lady well past a hundred years of life in appearance.

She quickly knelt beside Ultear and placed her hand on the seemingly elderly woman and channeled Death's semblance through her, causing Ultear's age to begin becoming younger again. Amber did not quite understand it, but she kept healing Ultear until she felt that she was no longer growing younger. At that point, she was looking like a woman in her late 40's, but at least she didn't look like she would drop dead any second anymore.

------

POV Ultear Milkovich

Once Amber finished healing her, Ultear laughed "It worked." she started shedding some tears. It hadn't been pleasant at all, but at least now she could see happier futures.

"What worked?" Amber asked with concern.

"You should go to Amity Colosseum and watch the end of the award Ceremony. Go ready for a fight." Ultear advised Amber.

Before, when Ultear had been in this position, she had asked to borrow Amber's possessed Dagger that Death had made for her, which was the same weapon she had used to kill Ozpin, due to it's property of ignoring Aura, but now she wouldn't need it. Death would wake up very soon, in time to save Vale, so all that she endured was worth it. "Trust me. Everything will work out now."

Amber hesitated a moment, then nodded and turned to leave the room, trusting in Ultear's advice, since she knew Ultear could see the future.

Once Amber left, Ultear used her transformation magic to make herself look like her younger self again, since she had to make sure everything went as it was supposed to go to minimize the fatalities that would occur in the coming invasion, and to make the man she loved proud of her.
