Pearl chased after Rhys, "Wait! Hey. Don't leave like this." She said breathlessly when she caught up with him. "It's ok. I meant it. I understand, it's only been a few weeks. You owe me nothing. Not even an explanation."
"I don't want to be with anyone else right now, tonight, at this moment, but you" Pearl said "You brought Jason here. You stood up for me. I don't want you to go."
"Do you love him?" Rhys asked again. "I care about him. I'm not in love with him." Rhys searched her eyes, begging them for the truth. "Do you care about me in that way?" He asked. "I am falling more and more for you every day. You are light. And full of life. You're an incredible human. Yes. I care very deeply for you." Pearl said.
"I believe you. I believe you do." Rhys answered. They got into the cab and left.
Dylan ran out into the parking lot, but Pearl and Rhys were gone. John wasn't far behind him. "They left" Dylan said, still facing forward. "Yes I can see that." John put his hands on his hips.
"What was that in there?" He asked Dylan. "What do you mean? Me telling that arrogant actor the truth?" Dylan chuckled. "No. How you made Pearl feel. It seems pretty terrible to me, man." John said.
"What do you know about me? Or her?" Dylan rolled his eyes.
"Oh I know plenty" John said. "If you cared about her half as much as your bravado said you did in there, she'd be here. Right now. With you. I've been privy to those parts of her. I'm sure she cares about you, but not like that. You should walk away. What do you hope to accomplish by this?" John knew Pearl. He knew she didn't deserve any less than extraordinary.
"Doesn't matter anyway. Relationships don't last. Nothing does. It's all bullshit." Dylan said.
"Then what are you looking for out here?" John asked and left it at that and walked back into the bar.
Pearl was so thankful to be back at Rhys' suite. He walked her in and they sat down on the sofa. He took her into his arms and held her. "You went to Chicago to break things off with your girlfriend?" Pearl asked. "EX girlfriend." Rhys said. "Why?" Pearl asked. "We had a very toxic thing going for a long time. It worked because we could both keep our crazy schedules and distance. But when I met you, I realized I had a shot at something real. I'm tired of feeling alone and I'm tired of searching for you, Pearl. You're right here, now. It's tangible. My parents have been happily married for 40 years. I've always wanted something like they have. I never felt I could find anything even remotely close to that until I met you at the bookshop that day. It was, I truly believe, love at first sight. They say you know, and I did. I do. Yes I know it's fast. But something, something deep, to my core, is telling me this is right. And I need to pursue it."
"I'm in" Pearl said. And he held her the rest of the night, they never left the sofa.
