Capítulo 74: Day of Reckoning Part 2
High Velocity
While the Eastern and Western airships are being taken care of, Azula rides on her testhan up the right side of the Northern airship. Kanna rides across the same route but is riding behind a Higoshi rider. A cannon is fired directly into a Higoshi rider, blowing him to dust. A firebender riding behind another Higoshi warrior pumps a beam of orange flames into one of the cannon's blowing it up.
Azula notices a wingman archer take aim at her from above, the Princess raises her right hand and shoots a rod of lightning into the wingman. The wingman explodes in a gust of grey smoke as Azula flies toward the airship entrance. Kanna rides on another testhan behind her driver as she soars over the entrance of the air vessel. A wingman buzzes behind her and launches an explosive arrow at them. Kanna gasps and jumps off the animal onto the airship as the testhan and rider are incinerated.
Azula redirects her testhan and pops a blue brick of fire into the wingman's chest. The wingman is hit and spins down. Kanna looks ahead and notices a mace warrior and waterbender captain right in front of her. The mace warrior charges at her and Kanna swiftly kicks a dark orange beam of fire from her left leg into the man. The waterbender extends his arms and shoots a beam of freezing ice at her.
Kanna jumps over the blast and kicks both of her legs forward, launching a rod of dark orange and gold flames into the man's chest. The waterbender flies off the platform. A firebender takes aim at Kanna but Azula hops down from her testhan and extends her left hand; shooting a light blue flame into the mans' chest. A long axman charges at Azula next but Azula pulls both of her hands forward and pops a brick of blue fire into his body.
An earthbender leaps beside Kanna and hurls two bricks at her. Kanna flips right and Arret launches an arrow through the man's right ear. A marine swordsman and 31st spearman hop off their testhans to assist the team as they engage a DOJ swordsman and curved swordsman across them. As the battle breaks out Voren suddenly soars down toward Azula at 150 miles an hour. Azula turns and locks eyes with her opponent.
Kanna shouts, "Azula!" Azula raises her right hand and launches a surge of light blue lightning at the DOJ enforcer. Voren soars lower as he dodges the shot and launches a volley of metal projectiles at her. Azula leaps left to avoid getting butchered. A cultist swordsman emerges behind her but Azula rotates her body and kicks a blue flame into his abdomen. A waterbender looks to flank her but Azula rotates her body and pops a short beam of blue flames into the terrorist.
The flames explode on impact and a white cloud flows as the man flies off the airship. Azula takes a breath and Voren swiftly rams himself into Azula's back. Azula shouts, "Ugh!" Voren grabs Azula and soars past the airship.
A 31st swordsman cuts down a DOJ swordsman with an upward strike, "Kanna, get to the controls! Shut them down, that is our priority." Kanna kicks a dark orange flame into the hatch, blasting it open. Kanna hurries down to the second level. A DOJ swordsman and mace warrior are waiting for her but the 31st scout swiftly dives behind the swordsman and kicks him in his back. The swordsman flies into the mace trooper; knocking both of them out the window.
Kanna immediately gets to the controls and changes the course of the airship. Azula holds on for dear life as she glides over a hundred miles an hour with nothing but Voren keeping her from falling. Wind scapes her body and blurs her vision as she glides forward. Azula shakes herself free and pops the aging commander twice in his face.
Voren huffs then grabs a hold of Azula and swiftly swings at her with the metal claws around his left hand. Azula's eyes widen, and she allows herself to slide down to avoid the attack. The young firebending master wraps her arms around Voren's waist to avoid falling while also keeping herself from getting hit. Voren pulls his legs down and attempts to ram his metal cleats against Azula's stomach. The princess pulls her body further up and wraps her legs around Voren's while also keeping a hold of his arms to keep him from scratching her to death.
Voren headbutts Azula and hurls her off him. The princess spirals down at tremendous speed while Voren notices Kanna has already redirected the ship's course. He hisses before flying toward it again. Meanwhile, a Higoshi rider lowers his creature and picks her up. Azula gasps.
Higoshi warrior: "I'm impressed, a lot of people would have lost consciousness already and wouldn't have been able to rescue themselves."
Azula looks at him, "Do you know who I am? This is nothing for me."
Higoshi warrior: "My people don't care much for the affairs of the royals."
Azula: "Fair enough, thanks for saving my life."
Higoshi warrior: "My pleasure."
Azula points, "Can you get me back to that airship?"
Higoshi warrior: "There are a lot of enemies that way."
Azula: "Don't worry about that, I'll make sure we get there safely." Kanna is still on the second level of the ship when Voren suddenly soars up across the window. Kanna gasps and Voren shoots several metal projectiles at her. Kanna dives on the floor as several blades land a few inches over her head. Voren soars higher to get a shot at Kanna but the young lady leaps back on her feet.
Voren opens fire again but Kanna backflips several feet backward as she dodges more shots. Voren changes his firing position and Kanna jumps up on the latter to stay out of his range. Voren assumes Kanna is left then flies inside of the airship. Kanna leaps back down and punches a dark orange beam of fire at him. Voren glides left against the wall.
Kanna comments, "Bad decision staying in here, you know you aren't as dangerous if you aren't in the air."
Voren taunts, "I don't need it to beat you." Kanna shifts her hands forward and hurls several vertical whips of fire at him. Voren leaps right and takes aim at the scout again. As Voren takes aim, Kanna extends her hands and blasts Voren out of the airship with a beam of dark orange flames. Voren spirals several feet down and stream flows from his armor.
Voren instantly regrets his decision and his wings are damaged from the shot. Voren extends his arms and rotates his body as he re-extends his wings. Voren is able to keep himself in the air fly again but he moves at a slower pace, just 110 miles an hour now. A testhan glides toward him but Voren fires several metal blades into the rider and animal. Voren decides to evacuate from the battle.
At the top of Kanna's airship, a 31st spearman lunges at a curved swordman's face. The duelist slips under the strike then diagonally guts the spearman. A 31st swordsman yells, "Man down!" The swordsman lunges ahead and horizontally slash the terrorist. Azula blasts two wingmen aside as the Higoshi rider ahead of her emerges above the group.
Arret gives her a thumbs-up as she stands beside the 31st swordsman. Arret: "Hi Azula, you showed up a bit late to the party."
Azula asks, "What about Voren?"
Kanna climbs onto the second level of the airship, "We won't have to worry about him anytime soon. He tried chasing me in the ship and I blasted him out of it."
Azula: "Dang it, I wish he would have tried that against me. Instead, I just get ambushed in the middle of a fight. But next time, I'll be waiting for him."
Arret: "That's assuming he survives this battle." While the other airships are being dealt with, Kett looks to finish the job with the South airship. The airship fires and blasts the top of a army air balloon causing the troopers to dramatically fly in several directions across the battlefield. Kett glides on the back of a testhan across the left side of the airship as his driver dodges an incoming cannon.
Kett notices a wingman with a sword soaring toward his left flank. The Vindicated Avenger extends his left hand and shoots a beam of light orange fire into his foe. As the team soars over the airship, Kett pops a second beam of light orange flames into a wingman archer from his right hand. The United Way hero hops off the testhan onto the airship. A United Way waterbender lands at his right and a UW earthbender hops on his left.
Kett immediately notices Beruto with a firebender, waterbender, chainblade warrior, knifethrower, spearman, and dual swordsman standing around him. Kett glares at his enemy, "Trying to one-shot cities now, this is low even for you."
Beruto: "Don't try taking the moral high road Kett, I am willing to do whatever it takes to accomplish our glorious purpose."
Kett: "More like a ridiculous lie."
Beruto: "We'll see who's ridiculous when Republic City is reduced to ashes."
Kett: "I don't think your plan is working too well at the moment."
Beruto presses his hands together, "Then let's see what happens here." Kett lunges forward and pumps two rapid light orange fireballs at the earthbending master. Beruto raises his hands and two pieces of the airship emerge which intercept Kett's shots. Beruto hurls another object at Kett's head. Kett rolls then rises back to his feet and shoots a beam of light orange and yellow flames at his opponent. Beruto crosses his arms, and a mound of earth blocks the shot.
Beruto pulls his right hand down and the part of the floor Kett is standing on collapses. Kett leaps in the air and shoots another beam of light orange fire at the DOJ enforcer. Beruto rolls left, dodging the shot. As this is happening, the rest of the forces on each side engage each other.
A DOJ firebender kicks an orange flame into an earthswordsman's stomach. A United Way earthbender launches a wide stone brick into the firebender's face. A warrior with a chainblade extends his weapon into the earthbender's neck then yanks his weapon back and tosses the man off the platform. Blood glides across the airship. Earthbender: "Awwwwwwwah!!!"
A DOJ waterbender pushes a volley of ice knives at a water spearman. A UN waterbender jumps over his spearman comrade and shoots a surge of scorching hot water into the ice knives which melts them on impact. The waterbender fires the rest of his stream into the cultist waterbender, blasting his opponent aside. A knife thrower tosses two knives into the waterspearman's chest and the waterbender rolls right.
The waterbender extends both of his hands as he freezes the knifethrower and a DOJ spearman at the same time. The man with the chainblade tosses his weapon into the UN waterbender's left side. The waterbender cries as blood flows down his side. The chainblade warrior tosses the man back against the edge of the airship and the waterbender passes out. Beruto slaps his hand together and launches a shockwave of objects (using some of the top of the airship) at the Vindicated Avenger.
Kett leaps left near the edge of the airship before he notices that he's the last one standing on his team. Beruto smiles, "You're outnumbered. Can you feel it? Your end has come."
Kett defiantly looks back at Beruto, "I'm not out until I'm down." The chain blade warrior diagonally swings his weapon at Kett's neck. Kett leaps right on the rubble of Beruto's attack then jumps in the air and zaps a light orange beam of fire from his left hand into the chainblade warrior's chest.
A warrior with dual swords charges at Kett's right side but he extends his right hand and pops a light orange fireball into the duelist's chest. The duelist's body flips backward before it hits the deck. Beruto extends his left hand and directs a stream of objects at Kett. Kett rotates his body left and shoots a beam of light orange fire through Beruto's objects.
Beruto spins right then raises his arms as he creates a massive ball of scrapple by pulling nearby objects around him together. Beruto tosses the ball at Kett and Kett leaps left. As the ball shakes the air station, Beruto shifts his arms left and directs the ball toward the Vindicated Avenger. Kett sprints toward the edge of the airship. As the ball moves toward him, Kett swiftly shoots a beam of fire from his right hand into the edge of the airship.
Kett rotates his hand left and blasts an opening then launches himself in the air and flips behind the ball. The ball rolls off the airship and Beruto propels a volley of materials into Kett. Kett flies several feet backward and seemingly glides off the airship. The Earth Enforcer takes a breath, but Kett holds onto the edge of the ship. Beruto decides to open the hatch of the ship and climbs down to the next level to look at the status of the elastic bomb.
Kett climbs back on the top of the airship and looks behind. The eighteen-year-old sees the vast Republic City as the airship begins to rise over it. Kett sighs and tells himself, "This is it." The Vindicated Avenger blasts an opening in the hatch of the ship then leaps down and lands on top of a foolish DOJ trooper. Kett shifts his right hand and pumps a light orange flame into a DOJ firebender.
The man's body flies toward Beruto who is in front of the controls. Beruto smacks the body into the right wall and glares back at Kett. Kett extends his rams and shoots a beam of light orange fire at his opponent. Beruto raises his arms and blocks the shot with a wall of earth. Beruto: "You fool! You have entered my domain in close quarters! You won't be able to escape this time."
Beruto slams his hands together and several wall fragments smack Kett side to side. Beruto hurls his right hand forward and tosses a column of earth at Kett. Kett leaps left against a wall then lunges and kicks a light orange beam of fire at his foe's face. Beruto crosses his arms and blocks the shot. Beruto growls and extends his arms, launching several objects at the shock trooper.
Kett rolls left and kicks himself off the left wall as he glides toward the earthbending master. The Vindicated Avenger extends his right hand and hurls an enormous swift of light orange flames into Beruto's upper stomach. The DOJ enforcer rapidly flies out of the window. Kett looks down at his opponent fiercely and takes a breath. The Vindicated Avenger looks around and notices that the ship is already heading well into the city.
Kett knows there is only one thing he can do. Kett redirects the airship and moves it out of the city into the outskirts. Kett then smiles and decides he will wait for the backup to come before he leaves. Kett begins to steer the ship down for a landing.
The injured United Way water bender at the top of the ship suddenly wakes up. He puts his left hand on his wound and suddenly starts healing himself. The bender regains his strength and climbs down the latter to the second level of the airship. Waterbender: "Hey, Kett, you got him. Looks like it's time to leave."
Kett: "I guess so, we just need to land this bad boy or even crash it on the countryside to make sure everyone is safe. Right now, we've already moved several miles out of the city." A wingman with an explosive arrow suddenly emerges in the distance and aims at the duo. Kett's eyes widen but a firebender on a testhan blasts the wingman with a ball of orange fire.
Kett takes a deep breath and the waterbender also gasps. Kett: "Well that was a close one. I have this thing set to crash elsewhere in the outskirts, let's go!" The waterbender nods and the duo runs up the airship before climbing their way to the top.
Kett: "Now we just need someone to pick us up." A testhan emerges and lands between them.
Higoshi rider, "Get on!"
Kett looks at the waterbender, "You go first, I'll leave next." The waterbender gets on the testhan and the two depart. Kett waits for a second person to pick him up. The air balloons focus their fire on the wingmen after the airships are no longer a threat and they start blasting several wingmen out of the sky. As the airship spirals down Kett is pulled down by gravity. The Vindicated Avenger glides away from the hazardous airship and he lands on Macai's testhan.
Kett looks at Macai in astonishment, "Macai, how did you find me?"
Macai responds, "I knew there was one airship left. Looks like you're crashing this one, but it should be out of range of the city."
Kett: "So we get to see how powerful these things really are. Imagine if it was a decoy and didn't even have a bomb in it."
Macai: "That would be something.." The airship crashes into the ground and violently explodes in a wide dark orange cascade of fire. The winds become incredibly strong and yanks several balloons and testhans across the sky. Macai struggles to hold onto his animal, but he warns Kett, "Don't let go!!"
Kett shouts, "Believe me Macai, I'm not counting on it!" The wind suddenly stops, and the duo looks down as they see thousands of miles of burned soil below them. The explosion stops just dozens of meters outside of the beginning of Republic City. Kett sighs in relief and Macai breaths heavily from mental exhaustion.
Kett: "We did it, we beat them again. And now only Zerrel stands in our way."
Macai nods, "It's time we take the fight to him and end this feud once and for all."
