A pair of feet stopped right in front of me. I didn't even feel brave enough to look up at the person who was following me.
"Are you okay, Miss?" The person asked.
My eyes shot up to the face the person and I wanted to die of embarrassment. He was the janitor of our college. I was going completely insane, overthinking things.
"Yeah, I am fine, " I barely mumbled and tried to get up from the floor.
My body was still trembling out of fear and it was difficult for me to sit up. The old janitor was looking at me closely. He bent and extended his hand for me to take. I placed my hand in his and he helped me to stand up.
"Thank you, " I told the Janitor.
The old man kept staring at my face then he took a step closer to me and held my head with both his hands. I was so shocked by the sudden actions that I couldn't even push him away.
I watched petrified as the old man's eyes turned glossy and rolled over into his sockets. His eyes were completely white now, without any sign of the irises.
"I see fire, a lot of it, " the old man spoke in a hoarse voice.
My heart clenched within my chest as I watched his features contort as if he was in great pain.
"I see love, two of them. One a shifter and the other lamia, " he said further in his hoarse voice.
I couldn't understand what the old man was talking about. Love? And that to two of them? Shifter I could understand, but what was this Lamia?
Though I was terrified from inside I couldn't shove him away. I stood there with the old man holding my head and making insane prophecies.
"I see death a lot of it, " he said again in his hoarse voice.
My breath hitched on the mention of the word death. Why does this word does not seem to leave me?
What was happening in my life? I was the daughter of the Alpha and Luna of a pack and I didn't have a wolf. Could there be anything worse than this?
Now to top this, the old janitor of my college was acting like some weirdo and reading my future. What was supposed to mean about the fire? Was I going to die in a fire?
Why can't he simplify what he was telling? Why did he have to complicate things further?
I watched as the man's eyes turned back to normal and he looked at me shocked as if trying to figure out what he was doing? He pulled his hands away from my head and took a step back.
"Sorry Miss, I don't know what took over me, " the old man said embarrassed in a normal voice.
"Wait, tell me further, " I said to the old Janitor.
"Tell you what, Miss?" the janitor asked confused.
"What you were just telling me a few moments earlier, " I looked at his face trying to find out if he was lying.
"I don't remember telling you anything. I just remember you falling on the floor and me helping you get up, " he replied, astonished.
"No, you were just telling me about fire and love and that too two of them and about death, " I tried to remind the old man.
The old man looked at me like I had cracked my head. What was happening? Did he really say all those things? Or did I just imagine them? Why does these type of complications tend to happen with me?
"Sorry, Miss, but I don't remember talking to you about any of these things, " the old man really looked like he didn't have a clue about what I was saying.
Was it possible that he might have forgotten what he said to me? But how could that be? Was he possessed by some spirit that had taken over him? What could possibly the explanation be other than this?
"You should leave, Miss, it's getting late, " the janitor reminded me.
I looked at my watch. It was already three in the afternoon. It would take me an hour to reach my pack. Then there was my birthday celebration for which I had to get ready. I shook my head to get rid of the insane thoughts.
I came out of the college building. My guards were waiting in the truck, in the college parking. I walked to my car and slipped inside turning on the engine I closed the door.
My mind was still occupied with thoughts about what the old man had just said. Could his predictions be right? Can I find two loves? I was not able to find one mate even after two years of the official age of finding the mates.
Who can they be? He mentioned one would be a shifter so there was a chance he could be a werewolf. He even mentioned a lamia, what was lamia supposed to mean? I am certain that I had never heard about this term ever before in my life.
Then he had mentioned death, a lot of deaths. What was that supposed to mean? Will me and my mates or love or whatever the spirit that resided in the old man meant, were going to die?
My life seems to have a thing for complications. I couldn't understand, why I was not normal like all other teenagers from my pack. Why I didn't get my wolf when I had turned 18?
Mom was waiting for me impatiently when I reached home. She was annoyed that I had come home late when all the other pack members who went to college with me had arrived hours ago. I wanted to tell Mom about what the old man had said but she didn't give me a chance.
Mom shoved me into the bathroom for a shower and left ordering me to start getting ready for the celebration tonight because the guest will start to arrive in a couple of hours.
I took a bath and went down to the kitchen after slipping into a hoody and sweats. Mrs. Nelson was busy in the kitchen. She smiled when she saw me entering the kitchen.
"Freya, I made your favorite Mac and Cheese for lunch. Sit down and I will serve you, " Mrs. Nelson said excitedly.
I finished my lunch and got back to my room to start dressing up. I wore the black dress that Mom had brought for me and started to entangle my hair. I had silver-colored hair and deep violet eyes. Whoever looked at me was sure to get stunned from my extraordinary features and beauty.
I don't know from whom I had inherited these features because no one in my immediate family had silver hairs and violet eyes. Sometimes I doubted if I was really my parent's daughter or had they adopted me?
I would have been certain that I was adopted if I had not seen my mom's photographs holding me after my birth in the pack clinic. There were innumerable pictures of me in the house. I was the only child that my parents had and I was born nearly after ten years of their wedding.
I left my hair loose on my back and applied a light make up on my face. I completed my look with a bold red lip color. If I was attending a party, I might as well slay it.
Who knows if I might find my mate finally today? I was just hoping he didn't turn out to an obnoxious would be Alpha from the neighboring packs. I don't think I would have any choice but to reject him. There was no way I was going to spend my life with a brat.
By the time I came downstairs, Mom told me that most of the guests had already arrived. I walked to the pack of the house with Mom. It was at a distance of fifty meters from our house.
I was hit with a delicious scent of rain as I entered the ballroom of the pack of the house, where the celebration was being held. The scent was so strong I felt like I was drowning in it.
"Mom, can you smell it?" I asked Mom.
"What?" Mom asked surprised.
"The rainy scent, it's so strong, " I told Mom.
Mom looked at me with wide eyes, and something clicked in my mind. Was it the scent of my mate? Why else I could sense it so strongly if not for him?
"Freya, I think it might be your, " Mom left her sentence unfinished.
I was trying to wrap my head around this when I heard a loud growl followed by a deep voice that made me weak in my knees, " Mine."
