"Uri! You need to do it now! I'll hold them off!"
A beautiful woman was shouting. She had silky dark skin with short choppy black hair and red eyes. Horns curled up from her forehead and swirled around her ears. She was dressed in a simple black leather armor. A vicious looking full black spear with a hook coming off the back was clutched in her hands as she turned and ran away.
"Mommy!" A young woman cried reaching out for the retreating figure.
A pair of hands grabbed her, holding her back.
"It's all right Zi." The man holding her whispered as he stroked her head.
This man could be considered the opposite of the woman from before. His eyes were a piercing blue, and his skin was a light white, but instead of looking pale or sickly his skin gave him a regal look, with an almost luminescent sheen to it. His hair was long and white held up in a ponytail. He had 3 sets of slender, elegant white feathered wings on his back and his armor was an intricate golden plate mail.
After calming down the young woman, he released her and plucked his spear from the ground. If the woman's spear gave off a vicious feeling than the mans would give a graceful one. Its shaft was a smooth blue crystal, and the blade was a translucent white.
The young woman watched as he closed his eyes and began to gather mana, a golden nimbus emanating from him. She could hear sounds of fighting in the direction her mother had run off to and her eyes moved restlessly, switching from the direction of the battlefield, out of view, to her father in front of her.
When her father's eyes snapped open, she released the breath she didn't realize she was holding. Her father brought his spear in front of him and stabbed forward, the blade tore into the fabric of reality, piercing the very air. Sweat rolled down his face as he slowly began to pull the tip down creating a jagged rip opening up to the void.
The young woman could feel the pull of the void dragging at her as her hair danced and the hem of her white silk dress was sent into a flutter. She held up her hands blocking her eyes from the dust swirling through the air.
Once the rift was big enough to fit a person her father collapsed to one knee gasping for air. He paused for a moment and cocked his head to the side, like he was listening to something. After a second, she heard a slight whistling sound, getting louder. The man swiftly dove on her as a large explosion tore through the area.
It took her a moment to recover from her shock as she looked up at her father crouching over her protectively. She felt something drip on her face and reached up to wipe if off, looking at her hand. The red smear across her finger brought panic to her eyes as she looked up at her father. He smiled at her assuringly and reached out with a hand to softly stroke her hair.
"Remember one thing above all else." He said to her, gently bringing his forehead down to hers. "Your mother and I love you more than anything."
"Father..." she said quietly, her mind reeling from all the blood dripping off his back.
Then without warning he picked her up and threw her to the rift.
A shout echoed in her ears as she flew through the air.
"STOP HER!!"
"DAD!"
Another explosion erupted behind her; the impact hit the young woman hard enough for her vision to go white. The resulting force drove her even faster into the rift and another impact brought her back to reality.
********************************
A loud crash woke Zi from her dream. Her eyes blinked repeatedly confused by the darkness. She moved her head around trying to see something, only to feel a rough cloth scratch across her face. The coarse cloth brought her situation rushing back to her.
When she had landed on the other side of the rift she was injured badly. The explosion had torn up her side, broken several of her ribs and two of her wings, not to mention the burn wounds. Plus, the impact from falling out of a rift had only exacerbated her injuries.
She knew immediately from the mana that she had been dropped into the Origin world. She cursed her bad luck and all meddling angels, her mother's favorite curse. The Origin world was known for two races, Dargons and Humans. Although there were some Dragons who were open to outsiders the majority were a bloodthirsty group of savages.
Humans, on the other hand, were even worse. Her mother had used to tell her horror stories about humans to make her behave when she was a child. They were known for loathing all nonhumans and doing cruel and horrific things to them if they were caught.
And she had been caught.
Shortly after Zi had landed in the Origin world, a group of Larageths started chasing her.
Larageths were scavengers that lived off of death. They would eat the leftovers of others prey, dig up graves to devour corpses or feed on beasts dead from old age. They were known for being almost at the bottom of the food chain. They were small, only around the size of an average dog from earth. A brown exoskeleton covered their body making them look like giant bugs. They ran on four legs that ended in sharp spikes. Coming out of their shoulders rising above their head, were another set of appendages, these ones were longer than their legs and ended with a thin but wide spike, similar to a tusk. They used these for digging and tearing apart their meals. They had a long neck, but their head was bulbous and only had a mouth on it, which was vertical instead of horizontal and was large enough to split its entire head in half. Compound eyes, like a fly's, sat on either side of its neck to warn it of the slightest danger so it could flee. Two large holes opened at the bottom of its neck, capable of smelling a corpse buried under 6 feet of dirt even kilometers away.
These annoying pests were normally never a problem for even a one core warrior. Even if the larageths had a large pack, they were cowardly by nature and rarely confronted a live target, even if they could win. Smelling death on their victim was one of the few exceptions to this, and due to Zi's wounds she reeked of death.
The swarm of 30 larageths had pursued Zi for almost an hour before she ran into the slave traders. In her condition two of them had been able to capture her with a short struggle, leaving one of them with a broken arm, while the rest drove off the swarm.
Zi was shocked when, instead of torturing her, they had begun to mend her wounds and give her food. Unfortunately, she quickly pieced together why they were helping her. Even with the sack they had put on her after capturing her, she could hear them talking about selling her and the great price she would fetch. It filled her with indignation, hearing them talk about what her owner might do to her, but Zi kept a low profile. As long as they didn't actively harm her then she could rest safely until she healed.
Her situation continued in this manner for a week until she was woken up from her sleep with a large bang, followed by a deafening roar.
A slight smile lifted the corner of her mouth, she might have just found her opportunity.
