Capítulo 28: Blood Washed With Rain

Rackshar was crouched behind the dead body of an athonex, his head leaned to the side of the shell, watching the slow movements a still living athonex, circling him. His breathing was ragged, and blood was draining from his torn-up arm. His face, which had gained a healthy tan color over the last few weeks in the sun, was now even more sickly pale than when he had first come to this world.

At this point, Rackshar knew a head on confrontation was inevitable. Although he wanted to get this over as soon as possible, so he could put his body back together, he was instead biding his time. He wanted to allow them to separate from each other as much as possible. That way he could avoid sustaining damage, at least, as much possible.

Seeing the circling athonex come into view, Rackshar dashed around the opposite side. He kept the body between them as much as possible. This, of course, left him in full view of the guarding athonex, who was now Rackshar's target.

When Rackshar got a clear view of the motionless athonex his eyes widened in surprise. Vines were strewn out on the ground around the athonex like a matted net. It intended to catch Rackshar if he came to close to it.

After Rackshar recovered from the surprise of seeing the turtles come up with a second plan, a smile spread across his face. Rackshar quickly realized that this athonex hadn't seen him land on the beasts back using an explosion. He only watched Rackshar's leap that landed him next to his opponent.

The predictable volley of spikes came at Rackshar and he launched over them with his last explosion. When he landed on the athonex's back, Rackshar's legs gave out under him, his vision flashing white. He sprawled across the athonex's shell, losing precious time and allowing his opponent to adapt to Rackshar's surprising move.

The athonex's head lunged back to bite Rackshar. Luckily, Rackshar's reflexes saved him, despite his blurred vision he managed to jam his knife into the athonex's eye before it could bite him. The athonex thrashed its head in pain, trying to dislodge the intrusion. Rackshar, for his part, refused to loosen his grip and was whipped forward, sending him rolling across the craig, the knife still clutched in his fist.

The last uninjured athonex watched what had happened with anticipation. It was unable to participate without hitting its teammate, so it had waited for a clear shot. Now, in front of it, its enemy was lying motionless on the ground coved in blood, while its partner was still standing, it seemed like the worst was over.

Then in front of its shocked eyes the human began to slowly rise, while its partner's legs trembled and collapsed to the ground.

Infuriated at the change in the situation, it immediately launched its bark armor, to finish off this persistent human and avenge all its fallen comrades.

Rackshar watched his impending death with tired eyes. He was now confident that several of his ribs were broken. His bleeding arm was in even worse condition after his intimate journey across the ground and his right shoulder was dislocated, from holding onto the knife. Despite all this, a sloppy, arrogant smile was plaster across Rackshar's face.

As the spikes neared, he attempted to dive to the side. Unfortunately, Rackshar hadn't recovered at all. Thus, instead of diving, it resembled a clumsy trip to the side.

Rackshar laid on the ground, his smile nowhere to be seen. He had fallen flat on his face without even rolling and his nose had a trickle of blood. To top it off, he looked down to see a shard sticking out of the side of his abdomen, bleeding lightly.

Rackshar just ignored it and left the spike, to keep it from bleeding too much in the remaining battle. He dragged himself to his feet slowly, his eyes were unfocused and all he could see was the blurry shape of the athonex through the curtain of white obscuring his view.

Rackshar calmly raised his dislocated right arm into the air and twisted his shoulder back, then rotated his hand down until he heard a sickening pop. He was kind of grateful for his lack of feeling at that point.

The athonex fired its next volley as Rackshar was fixing his shoulder. Only seeing the vague motion in the air of the projectiles Rackshar took a few stumbling steps forward to meet them.

Just as they were about to hit Rackshar pointed his relocated right arm to the ground and fired off another explosion!

It had been almost 3 hours since Rackshar used an explosion while jumping off the craig to hunt, which gave his core enough time to generate the required energy for another charge.

Rackshar's body twisted in the air, as he had little control over it anymore. He under shot his target by quite a bit, he could see that he would land in front of the athonex instead of on its back.

Rackshar decided to use the momentum of twisting in the air to his advantage. As he was about to land, he summoned up the last of his strength and used the momentum of his fall to bring his knife directly down of the athonex's forehead.

A wet crunch was heard echoing over the forest and then, everything went silent.

Rackshar laid on his back next to the limp figure of the last athonex, the knife still sticking out of its slightly concaved head.

He stared up at the clouds pouring rain on him as his breath made a mist dance with the raindrops. Then, slowly, he began a chuckle, which rose in volume with each passing moment, until his boisterous laughter could only be described as maniacal. It shattered the silence that had just reigned over the forest, and even sent distant birds into flight.

"Ahhhh..., time to fix myself up." Rackshar sighed contentedly, as he ended his revelry.

He sat up and began to rip strips of cloth from his ragged clothing to patch up his various wounds. Although the bandage work was rough it was thorough and the bleeding seemed to be, at the very least subsiding.

Still Rackshar knew it would take quite a while before he was in his peak condition again.

"Still at least I won't come away uncompensated." He said with a grin, his sharp eyes fixed on the four bodies strewn across the craig. The pools of rainwater mixed with the blood draining from the corpses and reflected the gray sky, causing the summit to take on an eerie rust color. An ominous aura of death drifted in the air that would cause most people's faces to turn pale.

Rackshar, for his part, hummed a tuneless melody, going about his job as a butcher with a slight smile on his lips.
