Cecil stared on blankly, her arms on the fence twitching. She only swivelled her head to the front, treating the man beside her as an empty space.
I must be delirious from this german-named drink, Widerlich.
No one liked being ignored, especially someone like Kai. Everyone always paid attention to him, due to his cheery disposition.
He reached his hand out, tapping Cecil on her shoulder. "Hey woman, don't treat me like a ghost, I am talking to you. I'm real."
Cecil widened her eyes in disbelief, recoiling back quickly.
"AI500! AI500! AI500! Recall your previous message!!!"
[ Alert! This time, for once, the postponed secret mission has commenced.
Secret mission 1 : It is one of them!
Objective : Assist Xue in assimilating with his first soul fragment, Kai.
Clue : You have left a great impression on him, he will listen to you.
Time limit : 60 days
Oh that's right, one more thing.
You'll be given a generous reward if you complete this mission~ ]
She read the message once.
Twice.
Thrice.
It's real! Kai is here, the very first alter of Xue!
That super cute and super adorable Kai!
Why? Why is he here? He is supposed to meet Hana the very first time! He is suppose to proclaim his love to Hana! He is supposed to ask Hana to be his girlfriend--girlfriend?
Cecil recovered from the biggest shock of her life, clearing her throat, asking in a snobbish tone. "What did you just tell me?"
"Be my girlfriend."
Cecil could have puked up blood right then and there.
Mr. Kai! Mr. First Alter! You only have the one and only beloved Hana, your fated wife!
The great lord protagonist, Xue, will murder me if I became the girlfriend of his alter.
Please don't do this to me!
"No." Cecil rejected coldly as she furrowed her eyebrows. "You aren't even allowed to be here, you are trespassing."
Kai only stepped closer, his toothy grin become wolfish. There was a mischievous glint in his eyes.
"You look even more beautiful this way," Kai complimented, leaning down and Cecil stumbled back in terror. "Especially your eyes, and your body.
Cecil contemplated at his last word, frowning, before her eyes widened in realisation.
She was wearing a nightgown, and the previous owner enjoyed wearing skimpy nightgown!
It was as good as screaming to a man to embrace her!
For the first time in her life, Cecil blushed all the way up to her ears.
Kai has been observing this woman ever since that fateful day in the clearing, and she was almost constantly wearing the cold, haughty demeanor. From the clearing, to the tavern and the walk back to her mansion.
Whenever he was free, he would spare the time to drop by the mansion, hoping to catch a glimpse of her as he pretended to be someone lost in the area.
Even if he caught a small glimpse of her, she was wearing her usual cold, haughty look.
Seeing the blush adorning her fair and beautiful face, and the cold and haughty look completely gone...Kai's grin dropped instantly, darting his tongue out to wet his dry lips.
He hadn't expected her to react in such an innocent manner.
It must be the first time someone of the opposite sex has saw her this way.
Cecil spun around, dashing back into her room, her eyes fixated at her wardrobe. However, Kai grasped at her wrist and forcing her to stop.
"Wait, I'm sorry! I didn't mean to act like a pervert or a stalker!"
"Stay away from me." Cecil hissed out, her expression colder than ever despite her blush.
I am completely embarrassed! I am literally flashing my body for a man to see! Especially Kai!
"At least tell me your name--"
"Scram!" Cecil tried pulling back her wrist and Kai didn't want to let go.
Cecil started to panic, not liking this situation.
"Anyone there? Lili? Guards! There's a trespasser in my balcony, a pervert! A stalker!" she raised her voice, her tone urgent.
Kai instantly released her hand, raising his hands up in surrender. "I'm...really sorry--"
Cecil didn't bother looking at him, only wanting to cover herself up desperately. She headed to wardrobe, snatching out a random robe and she watched as Kai squatted on the fence, his hand near his head, making an apologetic gesture.
"I am really sorry." He mouthed those words to her as she stepped out of the wardrobe. At the same time, her bedroom door has been slammed open, Kai flipped himself off the balcony in one fluid, deft motion.
"Young mistress!"
"Young mistress, are you alright?!"
The lights to her room switched on, brightening up the entire room.
"The trespassing pervert went that way! Catch him!"
Lili rushed up to Cecil, adjusting her robe and Cecil looked at the balcony, her emotions complex.
"Cecil!"
A familiar voice called, and Cecil felt herself being embraced by Hana. She could see her trembling body, hearing her pitiful sobs. Cecil softened her expression, patting and rubbing at Hana's hair gently. Cecil glanced to her doorway, seeing Xue standing there, his impassive gaze on Cecil, before it drifted to the balcony and back to Hana. She watched as his expression melted considerably once his eyes was back on Hana.
Aw, that's cute. And he's still here, at this hour?
Have these two already progressed this far? Oh my god, this calls for celebration!
"I've been waiting all night...are you alright, Cecil?"
...or not.
Poor Hana. Why are you so nice and caring of someone who treated you so badly?
"Silly girl, it's only a drink. I won't die, go and get some sleep."
"Al-alright. I heard you shouting about a trespassing pervert, is it true?"
Thinking of that moment yet again, Cecil felt herself heating up.
It was a relief she was covered up now.
Hana observed Cecil's rosy cheeks with interest. It was her first time seeing such a side to Cecil.
"Ye-yes, but he probably escaped. Nevermind, go and rest, Hana."
"Okay, I will."
Xue also noticed the blush on Cecil's face, raising his eyebrows slightly.
It was after her dancing lessons, and Cecil found her stamina has improved. She used to be easily exhausted, but now, she could even afford to head to the clearing for once.
"AI500, bring up the message about the first secret mission details."
[ Secret mission 1 : It is one of them!
Objective : Assist Xue in assimilating with his first soul fragment, Kai.
Clue : You have left a great impression on him, he will listen to you.
Time limit : 60 days
Reward : A generous one~ ]
Cecil noted the time limit of sixty days, it was two months and she began to sketch out the timeline of the novel once again.
Everything was still going according to the plot, Xue would meet Hana, and he would accompany her on a date and stay in this town for a few days.
His purpose here was to complete a request that has been placed on the notice board by someone named "Dok Chul". It is a simple job of banishing an evil spirit that has possessed a corpse, it was in an abandoned house just outside of the town.
The protagonist only accepted the job for the ample amount of money. He wanted to keep the money as a spare change, for emergency use, but after meeting Hana, he will stumble upon a shop where he sees a particular item.
"And right after that...hmm, I wonder if I have enough time." Cecil pondered to herself and the "clue" of the secret mission then hit her.
"AI500, what's with the clue? What do you mean he'll listen to me? Isn't it supposed to be Hana?"
[ Alright, I will change the clue to be more specific.
Clue : You have left a great impression on him, he is currently infatuated with you. ]
Her breath hitched.
"Are you crazy too? AI500! His one and only love is Hana, he wouldn't care about any other woman! What happened? I'm sure I haven't met him before, neither did the old Cecil Lan!"
[ Your first meeting was here, in this clearing. He was hidden within the trees. ]
"...then if the person's presence wasn't the trigger to the mission. Don't tell me the trigger is..."
[ The trigger of the mission was that you have left a particular impression on him, and of course, he has to be within vicinity. And well, infatuation works as well~ ]
Cecil smacked her palm against her forehead.
I am the worst second female lead.
This is the worst, I have stolen the heart of the first alter, which is supposed to belong exclusively and wholly to Hana.
Cecil wanted to cry at her misfortune, if she had known that this was the hiding spot for Kai, she wouldn't have even gone anywhere here...
She sighed.
It is too late now, I need to put aside these matters first. I need to start training my element, and evolve it quickly.
Cecil lifted up her palm, turning to the inner side and seeing the symbol hovering over her palm. She was happy, she had actually had the affinity to the element she desired.
Now, she needed to comb through her memories of how Xue trained his elements in the book.
Of course, as the all-important protagonist and the rightful "Supreme God", Xue has affinity to all of the elements. He only needed to collect his souls, and he would be back to his original omnipotent state.
That's right, the earth element training, it is the easiest. Sadly, it is also the hardest to evolve.
Mediation and concentration.
I have to learn how to do it, and then start to control the rock, soil and any part of the ground around me.
She was back in her "fighting" outfit. Cecil then sat cross-legged, closing her eyes as she rested both of her arms on her knees.
The best thing about the earth element was that it was prevalent, and one could start meditating anywhere.
The clearing was truly a good spot for Cecil, it was serene.
Cecil wasn't sure how much time has passed, and she had never done any mediation before, almost falling asleep right on the spot.
This isn't right.
She opened her eyes.
Xue...his mediation worked, and his mind was gradually filled with the outline of the ground around him.
The author stated that Xue could feel the earth breathing. That was how he started to control it, bit by bit.
Cecil tried again, closing her eyes...and it was futile. She huffed, opening her eyes and a trace of annoyance flitted past her eyes.
How does one meditate?!
She adjusted her posture once more, and shutting her eyes.
"Milady, you are not meditating correctly."
Her eyes flew open and she recognised that voice.
It was Kai.
She started to panic, she didn't expect him to be at the clearing now. She had no time to complete the mission now, and she had no idea how to deal with his infatuation.
"Why are you here?" Cecil questioned, her voice frigid.
Kai stepped right in front of her and she brought her head up, seeing his adorable toothy grin. "Call me Kai, and this was originally my secret spot. You intruded into my territory."
"This place belongs to no one." Cecil harrumphed.
Kai grinned wider, "that's true. So, in return for sharing this spot, would this milady be kind enough to introduce yourself too?"
That's the question you should be asking Hana, not me, great lord protagonist!
Alas, there was no choice.
"Cecil Lan."
The delight was written all over his face at finally knowing her name. Cecil could imagine a tail behind him, wagging happily, his doggy ears perked up.
So! Cute!
Cecil resisted the urge to pat Kai on the head.
She couldn't maintain her cold and haughty facade anymore and she looked away, giving Kai a dismissive wave. "Don't disturb me, I'm trying to meditate."
Kai didn't move and only went to seat beside her. "I told you, you are doing it wrong."
Cecil looked at him, raising her eyebrows, questioning.
Kai recalled about the events last night, shifting further away from Cecil. He didn't want her to run away again, and jump to the conclusion that he was a pervert.
...though it was his fault for sneaking around that night and jumping onto the balcony after seeing her.
Kai reached out to her hand and Cecil pulled it away, narrowing her eyes at him. He raised his arms up in surrender.
"I just want to confirm your element, nothing else."
"Earth."
Kai proceeded to grin toothily again. "Okay, I'll help you with meditating. It's not easy to do it alone, it's better to have some guidance."
"...do as you wish."
Cecil wanted to laugh and cry at the same time, the one who would be her first teacher, was the first alter of Xue.
It just meant that Xue and Kai was her teacher.
This is so sad.
Cecil lamented, and Kai assumed a meditating posture like Cecil.
"My master said meditating wasn't simply closing one's eyes, especially for the earth elementals. It needs to feel natural, not forced, and definitely not making you sleep either."
"Natural?"
"Think of it like breathing," Kai smiled softly as he watched the spark in Cecil's eyes. "I'll guide you along, just close your eyes."
Cecil closed her eyes.
"Since you are an earth elemental, you can simply meditate anywhere with ground, that's good."
She nodded in agreement.
"Okay, now start breathing in, relax and don't think of it as a task, and, breath out."
"In."
Cecil breathed in.
"Out."
Cecil breathed out.
Kai changed his position a while ago, his entire body now facing her. His yellow eyes were focused on her, warm and tender. A soft smile donned his lips, and he lowered his voice, slowly repeating his words in a hypnotising manner.
"In and out."
"And again, in and out."
"In...and out."
Kai noticed a wisp of green drifting out from her right palm. Eventually, the wisp grew larger and denser, enshrouding Cecil's body wholly.
She did it...now, it's all up to her.
《 start 》
There was always an image of one woman in my mind, my heart always reaches out for her, to call for her.
She's there, but I can't seem to touch her or see her.
I love her, but at the same time, I do not love her.
...then Cecil appeared right before me.
That woman is still there in my mind, but from time to time...Cecil is there too.
I do not love Cecil at all, she doesn't compare to the woman in the slightest.
...but I can't seem to get Cecil out of my mind.
