Capítulo 82: Swamp (2)

Being a snake is awesome!

While Guy and his fellow wannabe goblins have to watch their footing I simply slither through the muddy ground. I leave a distinct trail in the mud but I doubt that anyone will care to look out for such a thing.

Since the others aren't paying as much attention to their surroundings as they should I position myself at the front of the group and act as their eyes.

My thermal detection allows me to spot enemies from afar despite the dense foliage and dim lighting. Additionally, my sanguine-colored scales blend in quite well with the muddy ground. Once the battle begins and the ground gets covered in blood that will be even more so.

We inch our way through the thicket and soon meet the first enemy. Navi, tell Guy to stay where he is.

<As you wish.>

Guy comes to a halt and develops a sudden interest in some tracks on the ground. If I hadn't been the one to ask him to stop I'd think he was just curious about those tracks and nothing more. He really is a natural at acting inconspicuously.

The enemy scout hidden behind a tree suspects nothing. I can't see anything but the scout's body shape hidden behind a tree as he is watching Guy. I slither towards that tree while carefully keeping myself out of the scout's sight.

I doubt that I would be seen either way but being cautious never hurts. As I get closer to the tree I can make out more of the scout's details. The petit body is pressed against the tree while the head is angled to just barely peek around the tree. That position must be uncomfortable.

I circle around the tree on the opposite side of where the scout is looking. I go unnoticed and finally manage to lay eyes upon my prey.

The scout is a female elf. Her golden hair is wrapped in a bun making her ears stand out. The long, pointy ears are softly twitching as the elf tries to make out any sound coming from where Guy and his wannabe goblins are standing.

I'd love to spend more time observing but Guy can only feign interest in some random tracks for so long. As he stands up the elf begins to shift her body, gently easing herself off the tree and crouching down.

Her head is still turned away from me so this is the perfect opportunity. In her crouched position with her head turned the elf's neck is wide open.

I shot forward and try to sink my fangs into her exposed neck. As a scout sent out alone in such a dangerous area, her training is naturally impeccable. Before I even reach her neck a dagger appears in her hand and she stabs out without turning her head.

The dagger moves with an insane speed that I could never hope to dodge but misses me by quite a bit. Training is good and all but sometimes it works against you.

She had only detected my killing intent and assumed me to be some humanoid creature as most of the monsters in this dungeon were. The blade passes harmlessly over my head and my teeth successfully penetrate the soft skin of her neck.

However, while the skin may feel soft it is astonishingly hard to pierce. My fangs only manage to sink in a few centimeters before coming to a complete stop and I'm forced to pull back. I'm in trouble now. Her constitution is too high!

Despite the bite only leaving a shallow wound the elf yelps in surprise at both her missed hit as well as the injury she incurred. She spins her head around but the moment the sounds have left her lips she realizes her mistake.

She looks at me in anger but her face shows indecisiveness. She hesitates for a moment and I go on the offensive again. I send three energy fangs her way and keep my distance in hopes that the daggers in her hands can't reach me.

She looks enraged at my attacks and destroys all three energy fangs with a casual swipe of her right hand using her left to send six energy dagger my way. I manage to dodge four of the energy daggers completely and only get lightly cut by the other two.

The elf takes a step towards me but then suddenly sidesteps to dodge a wooden javelin. Screeching, crashing and mud splattering can be heard from behind her as the wannabe goblins advance with wild abandon. The elf's scream must have got them excited and Guy's javelin gave them the direction to go in.

The elf too realizes that she's about to be overrun by crazed little pests that don't fear death and prepares to run. Not under my watch missy!

I send another three energy fangs at her and force her to slice them apart with her dagger again. I whip my tail into the ground and send a wave of mud splattering into the air. The elf's eyes grow large as the mud flies towards her and she quickly begins to chant.

"Oh wind, blow away my enemies and clear a path for my escape. Tempest bulwark!"

A spell! The air around the elf becomes animated and begins to spin around her. The spinning wind wall expands and blows away both the mud as well as the closest wannabe goblins.

Why did she chant? Does that make a spell stronger? How does that work?

<Chants are optional, they act as catalysts to make using magic easier. The words themselves are completely up to the caster and mostly describe what they want the spell to do.>

I can use that too then. The elf is still trying to run away but the treacherous ground and another wooden javelin considerably slow her efforts. I focus on some of the blood from my wounds and begin to cast a spell.

"Blood of the sanguine serpent converge and advance. Blood shot!"

With every word I speak, the image in my mind grows clearer and the blood becomes increasingly easy to control. The blood converges and forms a sphere that is then launched at the elf. I know I can't hurt her with this so I aim for her eyes. The blood escapes her notice and splashes into her face.

Her vision is blocked and as she dodges another javelin she trips over the root of a tree.
