Capítulo 43: Kanamara family dinner II

"So how's everything at your new, what do you call it again??"

Kame asks as he receives a glass of wine from Gin.

"Private Investigation firm…. It's going great actually, we've been trying to take down all of Cheng's associates that are still in the city."

Ilara replies with a smile.

The sitting room is quite lavish in setting with several antique paintings placed on the wall, lamps with intricate designs, beautifully designed chairs and tables that were nothing short of works of art.

The lighting in the room was appropriate so everyone could see what the other was doing. The room was also quite spacious with enough space for thirty people to move around with space between them.

With the décor of the room it was clear to see that Mr Kanamara was a man of affluence and Mrs. Kanamara was a woman of class and expensive taste.

Kame is engaged in deep conversation with Ilara while Nara and Nia chip in.

Sai is left completely out of the conversation causing him to excuse himself one too many times.

He ended up making small talk with Gin who was quite busy most of the time.

Sai knew coming over was a bad idea but still felt he had to make a good impression on Kame so that his and Ilara's relationship could move on to the next level.

"I really do love her a lot."

Sai remarks as he stares at Ilara from a distance.

"That's very clear to see, Mr Kisoka but I'm sure you know that even though Ilara is willing to go against her family for your sake. She still cares for them deeply… if you plan on taking her away from her family without first coming to terms with them, is that fair on a girl that loves both you and her family equally and would never want to put one over the other??"

Gin replies with a calm as he offers Sai a glass of wine.

"I guess you're right, I can't take our relationship to the next step without first convincing her family that I'm the right one for her…. This is all just too much for one man. I wish my father were here, I'm sure he would have given me some worthwhile advice on how to woo Ilara's family."

Sai comments with a smile as he takes a sip from his glass.

"I hope you find a way, Mr Kisoka… I really do hope you do. I can see that you really are the best choice for Ilara but can you convince them??"

Gin adds as he points his finger in the direction of were Ilara and her family sat.

They looked so happy as they chatted and laughed. Sai stared for a while before letting out a smile….

Tension is present at the dinner table as the members of the Kanamara house sit for dinner with Mr Kame sitting at the helm of the table with Nia sitting at his right and Ilara sitting at his left with, Nara sat beside Nia while Sai sat beside Ilara.

Maids swarm around them serving their meal and setting the table; the setting is quite sumptuous and enticing to say the least with several assortments of tasty cuisine enough to water the mouth.

"So uhmm dad, there's something I'd like to tell you."

Ilara remarks to her father.

"Yes, what's that??"

Kame replies with keen interest.

Sai and Ilara exchange looks for a bit before Ilara turns back to face Kame and begins to speak.

"Well you see Sai and I were approached by a D.O.D scout to think about the prospect of taking part in the defense exams which would be taking place in a month's time."

Kame coughs a little bit before staring at Ilara with a deathly stare.

"What are you talking about??... You got invited to join the D.O.D, that's so nice."

Nia exclaims with a smile on her face.

"So my sister will soon be part of an elite group of law enforcers, that's super cool."

Nara muses.

"Well we haven't gotten in yet, we have to pass the exams of course."

Sai says with a smile.

"Enough of this nonsense. It was hard to accept you entering the police force due to the fact that you were putting your life on the line for others but now you want to go and join an even dangerous team, what's wrong with you??... Would you ever listen to your father speak or you'll just do what you like… I'm sure this change came as a result of this hooligan sitting at our table getting involved with you."

Kame says with a bitter look.

"Father!!! I'll ask that you talk to Sai with respect, please… He has no hand in the making of this decision to join the D.O.D, it's a personal decision made after I carefully weighed my options."

Ilara says trying to hold back her annoyance at her father's reaction.

"So if you've already made up your mind, why are you telling me??... To spite me?? To make me realize that I have no say with what happens in your life??.... Why exactly did you say anything?? You could have just left without saying a word."

Kame bellows.

"I told you because I needed your blessings. I need your support more than ever because this path I'm about to undertake is a perilous journey and I need the support of my family to be able to do this without getting worried that I might fail… that's why I told you."

Ilara replies as she counts her words carefully.

"Sir, I can understand very well that till the day you die you'll never acknowledge my existence in your daughter's life but right now your daughter needs your support. Forget anything about me and support your daughter with her decision, I'm sorry for being such a wedge in your family affairs…. I'll excuse myself now."

Sai remarks after which he rises from the dinner table with his meal untouched and heads out towards the front door.

Kame stares for a while into nothingness before calling out to Sai.

"You may come and sit, I have invited you for dinner… It would be rude to leave without having dinner."

Kame begins after which he turns towards Ilara to speak to her.

"You always were quite stubborn and I guess I can't change that now but promise me you'll take care of yourself."

Ilara gives off a big smile as Sai comes back to take his seat.

"Thank you dad."

Ilara says as she stands to hug Kame.

"Anything for my daughter."

Kame replies with a forced smile.

Capítulo 44: Hello, stranger

Dinner is over and the Kanamara family are sharing their goodbyes, "couldn't you stay longer, we would really like that" Nara says has she holds onto Sai, "we wish we could but we have a lot of work to do so has to be prepared for the defense exams" Sai replies with a smile, "we'll miss you a lot, please don't stay too long without visiting, OK" Nia remarks has she hugs Ilara with Kame hovering over them.

"father.." Ilara says has she detaches from her mother, "be well.. Take good care of yourself and know that this house is always open for you" Kame remarks has Ilara gives him a tight hug, "OK then, we'll be going now, take care" Ilara waves has she and Sai head towards the park.

"Ms. Kanamara" Gin calls out, "Gin, I was thinking you'd be to busy to wish us goodbye" Ilara remarks has she gives him a tight hug, "there was no way I would miss your send off, take care of yourself and make sure to come back soon… we'll be expecting you" Gin says has he heads back into the mansion leaving Sai and Ilara to their thoughts, "it will be some time before we see them again, let's get going we have work to do" Sai says has they get into their vehicle...…

TIME : 10:05PM

LOCATION : SOUTHSIDE ( OUTSKIRTS)

Clark and Tara survey their surroundings has they walk over the bodies of unconscious thugs, "still no clue on where Crow could be, this is starting to upset me" Clark says has he puts his naginata back in place at his back, "Yeah I have to agree that I didn't think we'd take this long looking for him, I'm worried at what Yakob would say when he finds out we haven't gotten any clues as to where Crow is" Tara remarks but is soon startled by the ringing of her telephone.

she picks the call and places the receiver at her ear, "hello" Tara says, "this is Yakob, have you guys gotten any leads on Crow's whereabouts??" Yakob asks over the phone, "not yet, most of the thugs we've met haven't been able to give us any leads, we're basically grasping at straws here" Tara replies calmly, "suspected as much, anyways I got something for you, got some Intel from a couple of good lads who informed me that Crow had left the city a couple of days back" Yakob says, "of course that's why we haven't been able to get anything, the bastard is on the run" Tara says has Clark's interest in the conversation peaks, "not exactly on the run, more like he is taking a vacation to reassert his goals… you guys should head over to Roc, you'll find him there, nab him and bring him in" Yakob replies.

"yeah sure no problem, what about you… what are you gonna do??" Tara asks, "I've got students to teach and I'm sure you and Clark can take care of Crow so talk to you later" Yakob says after which the line goes dead, "so what now??" Clark asks, "we head over to Roc" Tara replies after which they head towards the exit of the building…..

TIME : 8:12AM

LOCATION : NORTHERN FORESTS ( NOT TOO FAR FROM THE BUSTLING CITY OF CALOS)

"why did you let us die??" Hermit stands in front of him and asks with a charred face, "I'm sorry, I didn't know my vendetta would end up affecting you" Dan replies has he is on his knees crying, "you are so selfish thinking about only yourself and your dastardly revenge… now tell me are you at peace after killing Cheng… tell me!!!!" Hermit yells has he walks towards Dan, "stay back, please stay back… I'm sorry for what happened to you, I promise I'll make it up to you by adhering to the advise you gave to me" Dan says has he begins to crawl back, suddenly other members of Hermit's family appear and begin to walk towards Dan, their flesh charred with despair in their eyes

"you killed us Dan"

"it hurts Dan, save us"

"this is all your fault, I hate you"

"I hate you, I wish I never gave you shelter… you have brought death and destruction to my home"

Dan jerks up from his slumber sweating profusely, he is breathing heavily with his body shaking from the nightmare he had, they were common place now with Dan normally having such nightmares once or twice before breakfast.

His mind was being tortured as he blamed himself for the deaths of Hermit and his family, though he was not too far from the truth. With Cheng dead, Dan had lost purpose, he had lost his will to live and he needed something to live for has he toyed with death every single day from trying to hang himself to cutting his wrist, he had tried but was never able to complete the task, Dan was a walking corpse.

Dan gets up from bed and heads to the sink to clean his face, he looks pretty haggard with his hair scattered and his eyes tired, the room he stays in is dimly lit with the place in total disarray, Dan laps water from the sink and splashes it on his face after which he rubs his eyes to get the sleep out, "another dream without a way to get rid of them, my heart is torn and now I have nothing to use to distract me from the pain and suffering I feel" Dan mutters to himself as he staggers back to his bed and falls face first into it.

a knock is heard on the door and Dan turns his face towards the door with annoyance, "leave me alone whomever you are, I'm not ready for whatever you want from me", the knock continues unabated causing Dan to get up from the bed angrily to find out who it was, he unlocks the door and opens it to set his eyes on Ilara who had a smile on her face, "Hello, stranger" .
