55: The Welcome Banquet

Filled with condemnation, Lara stared at her father who only kept his silence. 

"Is it really hard for you to come clean with your own daughter?" she asked. And Sebastien sighed.

"Lara, you don't understand-"

"Of course, I don't understand!" She shouted, anger dripping from her voice as she emphasized every word that she said, "How can I possibly understand you, dad, when you let me misunderstand your intentions by lying to me!" 

Lara knows her father lied for a reason. And majority of those reason were because of her. 

But all she wanted was for her father to be honest with her. To trust her. Why is it so hard for him to do that?

Lara's voice broke. This denial, this rejection was starting to hurt her like no other. "Is it so wrong for me to want the truth from you, dad?" 

"Yes." 

Her father's expression become pained, like his words hurt him too.
