Ambai slouched down and hugged her knees. When she made the wish to that baby god, she did not expect that she would live a life like this.
A life full of hidden dangers.
"This is not what I wished for. I just wanted to... save my grandma again," she whimpered.
Her grandmother's last words came to her mind. "Move on… move on, Ambai…" Ambai sighed and hugged her knees tighter. If only she had listened, her life would have been different. She would have been reborn somewhere else and led a happy life. But…. But she had to make the wrong choice.
"It's all because of my selfish desires," Her mood turned glum.
Thinking back, too many people in this world have been implicated because of her wish. Her father, her mother and even that Imposter Zhong. All of them have gotten hurt trying to protect her.
"If there is something I can do to repay them….. I want to protect them too. But how?" she whispered.
As she was busy thinking, a scroll rolled down from the shelf and hit her head.
"ow,"
She picked up eth black scroll and scratched her head. Looking up, she saw the shelf was rummaged and disorderly.
"I should arrange this and go," she said and got up.
Unexpectedly, the scroll in her hand unwound itself.
Curiosity got the better of her. She peeked at hits contents.
It was a simple map of Miriafa. But there were red marking surrounding it in all directions.
She plopped back down on the floor and gazed at it with her eyes narrowed.
"What are these red markings?" she whispered and opened it completely.
The map shone brightly and the red marks stretched to become demonic looking creatures.
Ambai gasped. "This is…. This is a map showing where the demons are. But how are they so close to us?" she stuttered.
Upon keen inspection, some demonic creatures were moving slowly towards her Kingdom.
"Oh my god, this is a live GPS tracker for Demons!"
All the markings were different demonic creatures. Some had spines, some looked like beasts, but most of them were still.
Looking at this, all she could remember was her first demon encounter. It was when she was a baby, Miriafa was attacked by Demons and she was torn to shreds by that bat creature.
Thinking about that made her shudder.
Ambai gazed at the mass of red creatures nearby.
"Just three demons were able to cause so much damage. Then hundreds would destroy us to the core," she whispered.
But she was still helpless.
"What should I do to help? How can I help?" she whispered.
A small book fell from the shelf again.
It was a spell book. It had many complicated spells and enchantments.
Ambai gazed up at the shelf in horror. "Is there a ghost here? How did this book and scroll fall by itself?"
She stood up and backed up a little. "Hello? Anyone there?"
There was no answer. Just complete silence.
She let out a breath of relief. "phew, I thought I met a ghost," she whispered. Only then she discovered the absurdity of her dialog. She was a ghost once. Why should she get scared of ghosts?
She let out a chuckled and walked to the shelf. She picked up another book. This time it was golden shimmering book. "This book looks promising," she read the title of the book and paused.
It read, "Book of prophecies,"
"Wow, my dad must treasure this ish," she whispered. She believed in a god, but she was not a person who would believe in future predictions and prophecies.
Miriafa, the kingdom she was reborn, is a kingdom that strongly believe in that.
That was why she had to wear a veil and a mask all her life in this world.
Ambai caressed her mask and sighed. "If only people did not believe in these hokus pokus," she whispered.
She opened the book and turned to the first page. But the book turned pages on its own. It stopped on its last page. It was empty then suddenly golden letters flew out of it and shone in the room.
"Glistening gaze of dampened green jewel,
That tears upon a jewel,
Not so kind, but not so cruel,
Instead, a different kind of ruin." She read.
"It's similar to that green book. About that eyes jewel thing," She gasped. She bit her lips and passed around, "why is this prophecy and that story made like that. My tears don't turn to stone or anything. Wait… maybe it does. I should try," she whispered.
Ambai plopped down the ground and squeezed her eyes. But there were no tears.
"I have to think of something sad," she whispered. Her thoughts went to her original family. Her family on earth. Her loving mother who made bad breakfast, her cute sister who is a frail beauty, her… grandma, who was her strength.
Her eyes started tearing up.
Ambai cried and held her head. She watched her tear roll down her cheeks onto eth coarse floor.
Nothing happened. Her tears were just slightly salty water.
"I am being hunted down because of my wasteful bodily fluid," she whispered and sighed.
