Capítulo 35: Secret Room

"I'm so busted," Ambai whispered and rolled out from behind the column. She used to think that her stealth was top-notch, but in front of her father everything was child's pay.

"I really should learn to use the direct method next time," she mumbled and cracked her sore neck.

Crouching around was so long was never a comfortable position, even for a younger like her.

Stretching even her waist she strode over to her father's table. "Since he knows I'm here, I'm gonna take the liberty to do anything I want," she mumbled.

The so-called kingdom's secret really intrigued her. "Where is that tiny scroll?" she whispered and shuffled thought the bundle scrolls. But it was not there.

"eh? I'm sure dad had it here. Where did it go?" she wondered. She pulled open the drawers, but it was not there as well.

Ambai scratched her head and plopped on her father's chair. "where could it be?" she mumbled. Just then her eyes met the bookshelf nearby.

"maybe he kept it in the secret chamber," she said.

Hesitating a bit, she gazed at the innocent-looking shelf with her eyes narrowed. "Should I go in there? Maybe I shouldn't, I'm already in a lot of trouble," she shook her head and stood up.

But there was this inkling in her heart that was itching to know what was in that stupid scroll.

"Curiosity killed the cat, Ambai do not be tempted by this..." she peered at the griffin statue next to her. "Ah, the hell, I'm going in. I'll get punished anyway." She spat and darted to the shelf.

'Are those books fake too?' she thought and pulled out one. But it was an actual book. "oh my, this is just like a spy movie, so exciting," she squealed.

Ambai placed the boom back in its spot and took a deep breath. "here it goes," she whispered and touched the griffin statue's head.

With anticipation, she gazed at the bookshelf.

A minute past, she waited.

Few minutes went by, but she still waited.

That was the last of her patience. "Is this thing broken?" she tapped the griffin's head again and again.

Nothing happened.

Ambai snorted and leaned her back on the shelf. "This is so anticlimactic." She reached and punched the griffin's head again. "Is this thing protected by finger print scann….." as she was mumbling, the door opened behind her.

'Leaning on it was a bad idea,' she thought as she lost her balance and fell inside unceremoniously.

The room was dark was there not even a single source of light nearby. Rubbing her aching butt, she held the walls and walked inside.

"This is the second time. My poor butt can't handle anymore abuse," she mumbled as she massaged her tailbone.

First she was dropped by the stupid Devil, now she fell by her own stupidity.

Felling the coarse bark of the wall she slowly stuttered inside.

The area was not sanded down, the entire castle craved inside the tree but it was more like a wood house. All the walls columns passageways, everything was cleanly smoothed down and even had a shiny applied on it.

It was surprising though that this small room was not furnished or smoothened down.

"Maybe my dad did not want anyone else to know about this place…. But why did he open it in front of me, ah? And why did he invite that emissary?" she whispered as she strode in.

With tiny steps, she finally walked into the room attached to the pathway.

Ambai walked around with her hands outstretched. After a while, she could not feel anything.

"This room is empty," she whispered.

There was nothing inside, just four walls and a dusty ground.

"Maybe there is a safe behind the walls," she stared tapping the walls systematically. They were all giving the same sound except the wall to her left.

"I knew it. It's a secret chamber inside a secret chamber!"

Ambai dashed to the wall and placed both her hands on it. "There should be something to open it," she whispered.

There was nothing protruding, and there were no Griffin statues on it.

'Maybe I should touch it,' she thought, and started touching the coarse wall all over. But the safe did not open. She did end up with a lot of wood splinters in her fingers.

Ambai bit her lips and peered into the darkness. "Why is this so hard?" she softly banged her head on the wall. Her head banged into something smooth and textured.

"Eh, what is this?" she whispered and touched the spot she hit. Something small was engraved on the wood.

Suddenly the entire wall lit up with a small purple circle around it. It was glowing so much that it practically lit up the entire room.

"Whoa, a formation!" she exclaimed.

This was the second time she saw a mystical formation like this. First was when she bonded with Fynn. Master Huyt had created a circle similar to this.

The mystical powers of this world intrigued her too much. She was never interested in sword fights rather she wanted to study magic like this, but she was scared. Scared that if she said this out loud that people might start suspecting her.

From her observation, the original erudite should have been training to be a warrior. His cat like reflexes was still with her. Ambai just did not know how to harness it.

Gazing at the glowing circle, she sighed. "I have no talent to open this."

The circle had four circles in its design, withal of them spinning in a different direction.

Dejected, she placed her hands on the swirling designs.

The swirling circles stopped all of a sudden and started spinning in the opposite direction. Suddenly the wall started trembling.

"Shit, did it break? Dad's gonna kill me," she winced.

But the tremble stopped after a while. The circles started spinning in the initial direction and glowed brighter.

"Phew, for a second I thought shit broke," Ambai said.

The circle started losing its glow.

Eyes wide, Ambai bit her fingers in fear. "I definitely broke it,"

The circle dulled down, plunging the door in the familiar darkness.

The wall opened up.

"It works," Ambai cheered. With her hands outstretched, she felt around the new secret safe. It was a shelf with few books on it. To the corner, she felt a soft surface of a lamp.

"There's a lamp," she exclaimed and took it out. She opened the small cap on the top and blew into it softly.

A warm glow shone from the lamp.

In Mirifa they use magic wood to create this lamp. It can be lit when it is exposed in air. Usually they are stored in a closed glass bottle with a handle. But when the lid is open, they light up.

First when she learned of these she was stunned herself. It was a marvel how Miriafa only uses its nature to create a living environment.

With her now lit lamp, she carefully observed the small shelf on the wall. There were few scrolls and books there. But to the corner she saw the small scroll she was searching for.

"Aha, I knew it. He must have left it here to keep to safe," she cheerfully exclaimed.

Picking it up, she plopped on the floor and got comfortable.

She placed the lamp in front of her and carefully opened the scroll. It had only few words on it.

"Erudite eyes tear a jewel,"

Ambai gasped at this. "What the hell! This I just like in that book. But how did people know about this?" she whispered.

From what she heard, such a letter was sent to an unknown number of people.

"My life is going to be in danger again,"

She slouched down and hugged her knees. When she made that wish to that baby god, she did not expect to live a life like this.

A life full of hidden dangers.

"This is not what I wished for. I just want to... see my grandma again," she whimpered.
