Chapter 2
LOU RIVERS
My feet leisurely rested on the dashboard of the car, my weight laid heavily on the seat folded around forty five degrees to the back, and my face to the window on my side.
I'm so used in this position as I had been on the road most of my life.
My father, Alfonso Rivers has been humming a song the moment we drove away from the Blood Zone's packhouse to head who knows where again this time.
He is a 'royal messenger' and has been in the job for as long as my memory had served me.
He is not just ordinary messenger though, like those of each assigned in a country but he— he is assigned to the world.
That's why we travel a lot.
This doesn't mean, I'm living in medieval times where messages are carried by flying birds and walking mammals. It's already the twenty first century, where werewolves don't anymore shift to travel on paws and furs but instead, drive luxurious cars like Audi.
'ahem'
Anyways, with my father's job, what he's carrying in his every travel are 'classified informations' from the Emperor himself and needs to be relayed personally to whichever and wherever.
Well, that's what I'd been told.
Hence, as his only daughter— I'd been tagging along for almost twelve years now.
I was seven when this started, hopping from one country to another, from a pack to another pack.
Basically, my Dad and I, do not belong to any pack.
With a royal badge, we just stay in a pack for a month or two, the most is three. Then after my father's business in that pack, we travel to the next pending agenda in his list. If fortunate, just in the same country but if not, then we travel passing so many oceans and mountain ranges.
It was tiring— but I got used to it by now.
And with all the years of country hopping, I have witness how vast and beautiful the world I live in. I get to encounter humans and werewolves in different colors too. I also get experiences on the bright side and those on the other side.
I have also learned to read humans and werewolves' behavior through my years of travel encounters. Moreover, it pains me to accept, how a human heart could be deceitful and how a werewolves' to be animalistic.
'tsk'
And like how I earned positive and negative experiences, I also gained enemies and dependable friends.
Sadly, I left them all every time. But I'm confident with every friendship I made, it always been built with a sturdy foundation that I believe nothing could shake it, not even the miles that separate us.
I'm nineteen now, and I've never been admitted to a school either, just like not being part of a pack. But this doesn't mean I'm uneducated, illiterate. I'd been taught by my father and myself.
Yes, self taught.
I thirst for knowledge. Hence, I love reading and the good thing is— I learn so fast and remembers in a glance.
'duh'
A piece of cake.
'ahem'
So going to school would just be a waste of my time and waste of remarkable experience I could possibly have during my every trip with my Dad. Hence, for me, school does not pose a significant value in my life.
[********]
I shifted on my posture and turned my head to my annoying father as he cleared his throat for attention.
I rolled my eyes at him and focus my gaze on the road ahead as soon as I saw him grinning that I very well know, he has something amusing to tell.
"Spill it," I said grumpily.
"My next mission would take longer this time Louchiechie," he begun.
'ugh'
'Louchiechie'
I immediately groaned and balled myself on the seat as soon as I heard my ever modified name came out from his vocal chords.
It's not that I don't like it. In fact, I love the sound of it. It's just that when he calls me that, it means he's coaxing me to agree on something big.
"How long will it be this time?" I asked.
"A year or two."
I whipped my neck at him with widened eyes.
'that's freaking so long'
He just smiled at me guiltily and shrugged.
When I confirmed he's not joking at all, I folded my seat forward to an angle, fixed myself up a little and leaned closer to my Dad, all ears to the life we are about to live in those two years.
The talk composed mostly of my nod in agreement. Frantically, we'll be going back to the mainland, to the country where I was born and be part of Noble Blood Pack, one of the three recognized ruling pack in the world.
It's a large pack and by the name itself, the pack basically compose of nobles by bloodline.
And besides joining the pack, going to school comes along with it.
I again groaned and rolled my eyes.
"Werewolves your age have to," my Dad was laughing at the thought of his own words.
He knows I don't need schooling.
"Just go to school along with other pack members Louchiechie."
"Maybe, this time you'll have a fated encounter with your mate," he pressed on.
I sneered but didn't react anymore.
'mate'
Just the thought of a mate makes me all giddy.
I have always longed to meet my mate, my other half.
A mate is someone the Moon Goddess has chosen for every werewolf from the beginning of time; a partner, an equal.
I have heard so much about what it feels like at the first encounter — as well as the life of being together.
While the world is so diverse— but all the werewolves I came across had said the exact same thing about finding one's mate.
I have listened how lovely their voice sounded as they told me their story of finding each other.
And I have watched how their face lit up, how their eyes sparkle, how their smile curved and how their heart took up a pace as they told me their tales of finding true love.
'so lovely'
Who would not want that?
Who would not want to meet—
… the one that completes you,
… the one that unconditionally loves you,
… the one that cherishes you,
… the one that fights alongside you?
Just who would not want that?
I believe that it would be wonderful and overwhelming— finding the love of my life.
And that's one thing I look forward in this life.
'ayieee'
