"It's a baby boy!" cried a nurse who was holding up a healthy baby boy.
The mother was lying down on the bed with a tired look, she ignored the nurse and didn't glance at the baby in fear of something. She stared at the roof as a tear drop rolled down the side of her face.
Frowning at the lady, the nurse pulled back the baby into her embrace and walked away to have the baby cleaned. She looked at the quiet baby with a soft expression and swayed him back and forth, calming him down as she made her way to the cleaning station. The baby raised one of his hands, trying to grasp onto something with a brief sad look on his face.
The baby had come out of his mother all bloody and quiet with its delicate features hidden underneath the blood. When the nurse cleaned the blood off the baby, she was astounded by the baby's adorable face.
With black hair adorning the top of his head, pitch black eyes filled with indescribable intelligence and seemingly profound wisdom. Pale white skin that brought out the beauty of his eyes and his lustrous hair, and a diamond-like, scarlet red mark between his sharp and thick eyebrows, giving an enchanting look that would draw people in.
"Ah!"
The nurse cried out in alarm when she saw the scarlet mark on the baby's forehead. She had never seen such a mark like the one on the baby's face and was worried he might be sick or hurt, especially becuase of its scarlet color.
She checked the mark for any injury and rubbed the baby's forehead softly before realising that it wasn't an injury or a smear of blood. She carried the baby with her and told the doctor about the scarlet mark on the baby's face.
"Don't worry, it might be a birthmark, but check just in case. We have to be careful in case the baby really is sick, we have to provide the proper medicine for him if he really is sick. Take him to get his blood drawn out for screening and testing." The doctor quickly waved his hand to hurry the nurse and quickly perform the tests for the baby's health, and so that the mother could get her baby back.
Medicine and technology had advanced very far in this universe and could easily surpass in every way Earth's modern technology and medical knowledge.
"Understood," the nurse nodded and left to test the baby for any diseases and illnesses.
After an hour of testing, the tests had ended quickly thanks to the help of the advanced machinery the hospital was equipped with. The nurse looked at the results of the tests and sighed in relief when she saw that the baby was in no danger.
The nurse walked back to the patient's room and didn't find the mother on her bed at all. Searching for the mother with a worried look, the nurse found that it was futile and that the mother had run away after asking some questions to the other nurses and doctors.
The nurse shook her head with a sad sway and looked at the baby with pitying eyes while holding him in her arms.
"It seems like you've lost your family," muttered the nurse with a sad tone.
However, as if the baby wasn't worried about that, it giggled and grabbed the nurse's hair with a smile.
The nurse saw his reaction and couldn't help but slightly tear up herself. She had witnessed such a sad moment and sorrow began to well up inside her for the baby that had just come into the world.
A baby abandoned inside a hospital, left alone by its mother. Although it wasn't the first time something like this has happened, the nurse assigned to take care of the baby was new at her job, and she had been the doctor's apprentice for only 3 months.
So that being said, she felt saddened at seeing the baby being abandoned, after all, she too was abandoned when she was only 4 years old. She could hardly remember the event of her father walking out on her and leaving her to fend for herself. Luckily, she was cared for by a doctor when he found her abandoned outside of the hospital the doctor worked at.
The doctor tried contacting her father multiple times and even had the local police of the world help, but it was like the man had disappeared, his last location was known to be at a bar at some distant planet.
Swaying the baby gently in her arms, the nurse gradually quietened down the baby and watched him fall asleep. Seeing him fall asleep, she sighed happily before placing him down with the other babies and walking over to the doctor to report the runaway mother and her abandoned baby.
"Don't worry about the baby, I will contact an orphanage and have them take away the baby. By then, the baby will be their problems," the doctor said as he looked up from his paperwork.
The doctor usually isn't so cold-hearted, but it is a role someone has to take. Being able to give out care to everyone in need was not possible for him given his limitations.
Biting her lips, the nurse turned to look at the nursery room that could be seen from the door of the doctors office and made a quick decision. "Don't call the orphanage."
"What?" The doctor looked up at the nurse with a confused look before turning his expression into a stern one, "Nurse Lin, you are only 19 years old. Even if you were to become an Evolver, you wouldn't be able to feed, care, and provide for the baby. You have to work at the hospital four hours in the morning and four hours in the afternoon. This schedule of yours barely gives you any time for you to gather meat from creatures to assist in your evolution.
Even with the free days you get, you can't leave the baby alone, and knowing you, you won't get a babysitter either. Along with the pay you get at the hospital, you will barely manage to scrape by with the baby. I took care of you until you turned sixteen and moved out, so I need you to know that it won't be an easy job taking care of the baby."
The nurse kept her determined look and kept staring at the doctor, "I will do what I can to care for the baby, I won't give up no matter what. I can perfectly take care of him myself!"
The nurse didn't know what had overcome her. it was like she felt a connection with the baby, she didn't know what it was, but she didn't want to leave him alone. If she has to, she will take the baby under her 'wings'.
The doctor's stern looked hardened and stared right into the nurse's eyes, after a few minutes of staring at each other, none wanting to back off, the doctor finally softened his expression and sighed. "Alright then, you can take the baby..."
Hearing that she could take the baby, the nurse smiled charmingly and was about to go get the baby before she was stopped by the doctor once more.
"Let me finish! You can take the baby, but you have to promise me you will keep working as a nurse. You will be transferred to a clinic on a faraway planet, Planet Roca. You, and three other nurses, will be going there to help take care of some residents in that planet at a small clinic. You, and the three nurses, will stay there until they make 4 new hospitals and have sufficient robots and androids to take care of the buildings." The doctor pulled out some papers from a drawer he had opened and passed them to the nurse and handed her a pen.
The nurse was about to sign happily but then remembered something and frowned, "I won't be able to take this offer Doctor Tang."
"Why not?" Doctor Tang took back the papers with a confused look and asked.
"I don't have the money to move out, pay for tickets to go to Planet Roca, and I don't know if I will be able to find a suitable house over at this new planet," sighed the nurse. She was looking forward to having a wonderful time taking care of the baby and now that was all out the drain.
"Hahaha," the doctor chuckled and pushed back the papers to the nurse with a wide smile. "In that case Nurse Lin, this is perfect for you."
The nurse took back the papers and looked back at the doctor with a suspicious expression.
The doctor began to sweat at the look of the woman and explained, "This contract will provide you, and one guest of your choosing, a ticket to Planet Roca and the latest comlink to keep you in touch with the nurses. I will personally provide the baby a comlink, since the comlinks will only be getting more expensive and you can't afford one even now. This will be a farewell gift from me.
The hospital will also provide you some moving services, if you need any, and help you move into your new house. Your new house will be provided to you until you get a new house, stop working at the clinic, or when five years are up.
If you want to keep living in the house, you will have two options, to buy or rent the house. From then on you will need to pay for the house. When you recieve the house, the only thing you will have to be paying is for the garbage disposal and food."
The nurse still didn't sign and looked at the papers skeptically, "Why are the benefits too good to be true?"
Chuckling nervously, the doctor pulled out another paper with information about the hospitals and clinics on Planet Roca. He passed the paper to the nurse and smiled, "Do you see any problem here?"
"Yes, there are too little hospitals and clinics," nodded the nurse.
She had never seen anything like this.
When a planet has too little hospitals and clinics, the inhabitants don't tend to survive long from the missing care. Some end up having to part with some limbs when they don't get their wounds treated. After all, the creatures in God's Sanctuary are completely different creatures and some even have weird microbes on them and once a creature hurts a person, it needs to be thoroughly cleansed and disinfected.
Unless they are strong enough that their own body's anti-bodies can fight against the infections. However, until they are strong enough, the fights will be susceptible to such things.
"That's why the benefits are good. The only downside there will be to this, is that there will be many people visiting the clinic, so make sure to keep the baby away from the patients," warned the doctor.
"Yes!" The nurse nodded and quickly filled out the papers after reading through them thoroughly and seeing no problem.
After filling out the papers, she filled out the papers of guardianship over the baby and handed them back to the doctor. The nurse turned to walk away but stopped and turned back to look at the doctor, "Doctor Tang, when will I leave for Planet Roca?"
"In two days," responded the doctor after looking at the time on his comlink.
"And doctor?"
"Yes, Nurse Lin?"
"Thank you for everything!" The nurse gave a deep bow to the doctor with full respect before standing upright and leaving the doctor's office.
Watching the nurse leave, Doctor Tang couldn't help but smile sadly and wish her luck on her new adventure. He had seen Lin Xue, nurse Lin, grow from a young age to the fine woman she is now. Although he had never explicitly said it, he always thought of Lin Xue as his own daughter. Now that she is leaving for sure this time around, Doctor Tang couldn't stop himself from becoming sad.
…
"Hey baby! You wouldn't guess what just happened," Lin Xue approached the sleeping baby and whispered to him. She looked at the baby's sleeping face and thought it looked so adorable sleeping. "We will be family from now on, and although I don't have enough money, I will try to get you the best equipment I can for when you turn 16."
Lin Xue left to pack her stuff and bid farewell to her friends in the maternity ward. After packing her stuff, Lin Xue left with the baby in her hands and walked back to her apartment. Before leaving, she had taken some diapers, wipes, and food for the baby.
"There's a lot of stuff I will have to teach you," Lin Xue softly laid the baby on the bed and began undressing, revealing her plump butt and her full, yet slender, legs. She removed her shirt and her well endowed shite rabbits jumped out from her shirt.
Her nurse outfit did the men an injustice by hiding Lin Xue's ravishing figure.
After undressing, Lin Xue was happy to see the baby still asleep and left to shower after surrounding the baby in pillows.
15 minutes later, out of the shower came a beautiful woman, her beautiful white body wrapped in a towel while her black hair was dripping wet. She dressed up in her nightgown and slept together with the baby.
While Lin Xue slept, the baby's eyes opened slowly revealing two deep black eyes. His eyes darted all over the room with curiosity and a bit of agitation. He tried lifting himself up, but nothing seemed to be working.
Finally, his eyes fell on the enchanting figure of Lin Xue. The baby's eyes looked at the woman and realized something and tried once again to move, but the goal was different this time. With his objective being to reach the woman in front of him, the baby finally made it to her after a tiring and rough journey.
His face revealed a weary expression, but the moment he got to Lin Xue's side, he curled up his small body next to Lin Xue and began to feel relaxed. Next to Lin Xue, the baby felt as if the world was fine and it would stay that way for days to come.
For the first time, both the baby and Lin Xue were sleeping together happily. With their first night together under a roof that will be there for the baby only once until they leave for Planet Roca. Where they will both live on from tomorrow on with determination and newfound objectives.
