Capítulo 13: Returning to the Town
After seeing the thing inside Leo was so surprised that Bolt's voice became inaudible to his ears. That thing shaped like a five-pointed star, sky blue color, and had swirl patterns on it. If not for the brownish stem with two green leaves, nobody could have even imagined it to be a fruit. The leaves and fruit looked so fresh as if it was just picked from the tree. "What a peculiar fruit?" Leo thought inwardly. It was the strangest fruit he had ever seen in his both lives. He was talking about the fruit itself, not because it changed into the devil fruit.
Leo looked at Bolt, who had a pitying look on his face, and was saying some nonsensical things. He wanted to explain what an amazing thing they had found, but just then his feet felt unnoticeable vibrations in the ground. Vibrations were so weak that no normal person could detect them.
"Fuck!!" His overjoyed face changed into that of panic. He immediately closed the treasure chest, picked it up, and held it firmly into his hand. "Run!!" He yelled, and then frantically ran towards the door.
From the time they spent together, Bolt understood that Leo was far clever than him, almost all the time he was right. So it became a habit of him to trust Leo unconditionally. When Leo said 'run', he did not ask, why, or, what was happening. Without any hesitation, he followed him, and Leo's face clearly told him that something very bad was coming for them. "Not again!!" Bolt cursed inwardly, he was tired of going through dangerous situations.
When they were halfway through the stairs, Bolt finally understood what was coming for them, it was an earthquake. He felt the ground shaking, dust accumulated over the years was falling, cracks were forming on the walls and ceiling, and they were forming so fast that as if they were trying to outrun them. Seeing everything around them could crumble at any moment they climbed up the stairs even faster.
Thankfully, before everything fell on them they somehow managed to come out.
Just as they came out, the ground over the stairs and the hall caved in, the statue of deity also fell with it.
It felt as if the ground was swallowing everything above it. Even now the shaking of the ground did not stop, instead, it became more violent. The ground where they were standing was also starting cave in.
"We have to get out of here as fast as possible." Leo rushed toward the arched opening from where the pond water was exiting from this enclosed space. Bolt also followed him.
As if the earthquake wasn't enough, another thing popped up.
"Boom!"
"Boom!!"
"Boom!!!"
...
From many places, the cylindrical mountain wall exploded, as if it was being blown up by the dynamites. The shower of stones of varying sizes started falling, some stones were small as their fist, and some were even bigger than them, getting hit by them means instant death.
They were still some distance away from the arched opening.
"Fuck! Fuck! Fuck!! We are dead." Bolt was in complete panic.
Leo was the same, but he calmed himself quickly. He knew being scared wasn't going to save them.
Leo's second brain started working so fast that everything around him slowed down, almost coming to standstill. It gathered every single data sent by his senses, and then it speedily calculated the safest route to the arched opening on the bottom of the mountain wall.
"Bolt, follow my exact steps," Leo yelled without looking at him and then rushed towards the opening.
Bolt had unconditional trust in Leo. When he heard him, he knew they were going to be safe. His eyes fixated on Leo's steps. He was so focused that the world around him vanished, the only thing that remained was Leo's steps.
As they made their way to the arched opening stones were falling all around them, many times stones fell just a few centimeters away from them, almost crushing them, but not a single one hit them, it felt as if stones themselves were avoiding them.
After a few seconds which felt like hours, they reached the arched opening. They jumped inside the stream and entered the tunnel. Only now did both of them release the breath they were holding, the beating heart which seemed almost ready to pop out from the chest started calming down.
The situation was so dangerous that even a moment of hesitation would have cost them their life.
The tunnel was also shaking but it wasn't severe as outside. "I don't think this can hold for long, we have to hurry," Leo said.
Both of them hurriedly swam further inside the tunnel. Further, they went, shaking grew weaker and weaker. After some time they saw the light entering inside the dark tunnel, which brought relief and a smile to their faces. After coming out they saw the stream joining to the river, which divided their island into two halves. Seeing stream didn't bring them to some strange place both of them heaved a huge sigh of relief.
As soon as they came out of the river, both of them laid themselves on the grass-covered ground, spreading hands open and facing the orange sky, breathing heavily.
After getting the grip on their life both of them felt an inexplicable sensation, it was addicting. Today many times they faced life-threatening situations, each time they overcame it, they felt they were being freed from some kind of restriction, it was as if their spirit was being elevated. This sensation was addicting and thrilling.
After some time they got up and headed towards their town.
Bolt was shocked when he saw the treasure chest in Leo's hand. "You are still holding onto it."
Leo smiled at him. "It is something very precious, I will tell you about it tomorrow." He was very excited about the devil fruit, he was looking forward to what kind of power it contained. But now it was almost getting dark, so he decided to explain about it the next day.
"How precious it can be? It's just a fruit. And even if it was filled with the jewels I would have thrown it away in that dangerous situation. Our life is more important than anything, you took an unnecessary risk. It could have cost you a life." Bolt's tone was reprimanding.
Leo smiled. "Don't worry. Look, I am fine, right? And I knew it couldn't become a problem for me." He assured him.
Bolt gave a defeated sigh at his reply. "Okay, but just don't take the unnecessary risk next time." He was worried.
"I promise, I will be careful next time." Leo decided to just agree with him to make him feel better.
Today, the most threatening situation Bolt felt was the shower of stones. "When those stones started falling I was sure that we were going to die, but somehow we came out alive. Not a single stone fell onto us, how did you do it?" He asked Leo with an amazed expression.
Leo moved his hand through his hair with a smug expression. "That was easy, I just used my mind and senses, and then found the path where stones weren't going to fall."
Bolt knew it wouldn't be this simple, Leo was just trying to show off. He thought could he do something like that. "No way. When I saw those stones falling, my mind completely got shut off. The only thing my mind was doing was repeatedly telling me that I was going to die."
"Whatever you have done, that was awesome!" Bolt gave him a thumbs up.
Seeing his expression Leo knew he did not completely believe him. But Leo did not explain further. What he did at that time was exactly simple as he said, but at the same time, it wasn't. It did require mind and senses but they had to be powerful. Even with his capability Leo found what he had done was difficult, when his second brain worked at full overload capacity, he felt his brain being heating up, thankfully the distance between them and the opening was short, or else he would have died by the bursting of his brain before being crushed by those stones.
Thinking about all the adventure they had today Bolt couldn't help but remember Liam. "When is Liam going to come back? If today he was with us, it would've been even more fun. I miss him."
"Same here. I hope he comes back as soon as possible."
Both of them sighed. A depressing atmosphere hung over them.
After some time they reached the town.
During dinner, Leo told about his adventure to Nejiko, excluding all the life-threatening situations. He didn't want to worry her.
Before sleeping Leo trained in the [White Space]. Even though he kept Master Leo's stats one-fourth of his, he was still getting beaten up as usual.
When he came out of the [White Space] only thought came to his mind was, "Should I lower the stats of Master Leo even further?"
