Travis placed his palms onto the pommels of his swords. His foot dug into the ground as he leapt across the distance and began to follow the army. Lumen questioned his actions, 'Do you intend to help?'
"No, I believe they will provide an excellent distraction."
'Distraction?' -Lumen
"The next piece we're looking for is inside the Undead King's castle. Normally I'd have to convince them somehow, but with this war happening. . ."
His plan was simple! Sneak through the chaos and steal the piece he needs. All while slipping away before his presence was noticed! It was almost too convenient so he remained on guard for any disastrous results.
< Unparalleled Dimensional Magician asks if you intend to join the raid >
"Tsk, seems she's been keeping tabs on my presence."
< Dualistic Inheritor insists he's simply looking for an item >
< Star Driven Sword warns Dualistic Inheritor >
"Star Driven Sword?"
Travis paused for a moment. Epithets usually gave insight on the user's background or Prominence. Whenever the word Sword was used, it usually meant sword style or martial art. Driven was used for the cause or result. However for Star to be the first word. . . A sword driven by the star? Was it a Skill? That wouldn't explain the sword style. So a sword that mimics the stars?
It sounded absurd. Shaking his head Travis sent a last message towards Star Driven Sword.
< Dualistic Inheritor takes the warning to heart >
"Still, which one of them are Star Driven Sword?"
'Could it be Akiol? Since his sword is Breaker of Stars.' -Abe
That didn't sound right. If that was the case, then the Star Driven Sword would be Breaker of Stars and not Akiol. While this sounded plausible, he never heard of a weapon being granted an Epithet.
"Guess we'll find out one way or another."
Akiol's eyesight slowly moved away from a distant figure. To his surprise that mask of Dot's was still effective at hiding his strength. Noticing this he couldn't help but smile.
"Two different methods to achieve the same result."
As long as there was no conflict with Dot, Akiol wasn't worried with his presence. This wasn't just a confidence in his own strength. It was also a grasp on Dot's personality. Underhanded methods just didn't seem like Dot's forte, rather that masked man would tackle things head on with overwhelming might.
The march continued across the hills. During the strategy meeting the idea of teleporting directly near the manor was tossed about, but was shot down by Kan'na. She stated that such large scale magic, while possible, was a terrible idea. Someone as familiar with magic as the Lich wouldn't fail to notice it. Intercepting the spell was a very likely course of action. Kan'na could not provide a guarantee that it would work out.
This slow but progressing march ran the risk of being spotted. Yielya claimed that targeting the manor was also because of this, it allowed the least amount of time for the undead to act. This was the best possible course of action to take for the highest chance of succeeding.
Akiol understood this. In fact every member of the party understood this. There was just a single issue they failed to consider. During the original attack on Goldlight, there was a factor that brought upon the Lich's resurrection.
A player, who somehow became an undead at the start of A World's Legacy.
This player, with access to outside forms of information, had obtained knowledge on the raid ahead of time. They stood in a silent and empty room in the undead castle. Crossing their arms a rotten smile formed on their undead face, "It's time."
"Above!!!", a player shouted.
A swarm of winged creatures fell from the clouds, whirling like a tornado. Twisting to form a spinning projectile they fell like a singular massive object towards Raven Thread.
First contact with the undead, and they had already lost the initiative.
Several defensive skills were activated to block the swarm. Shields and barriers were erected as the swarm scattered before impact. What was originally a single large projectile was shattered from the hasty usage of skills. Instead of being a good outcome, it had made the flying creatures spread out hitting a larger area. A buckshot equivalent, and had caused chaos to spread among Raven Thread.
As the creatures impacted with the players, their claws ripping through any flesh it could reach, the players quickly identified them.
"Gargoyles?!"
Opportunity cleaved through several gargoyles with ease, "They're resistant to magic and sharp weapons! Switch to blunt weapons if possible! Otherwise get the hell out of the way!"
Turning around her vision warped and she was immediately put on edge. No longer was the chaos of war filling her eyes. Now it was a soothing place with a pink hue. A playful laughter rang across the endless space, "This is their only Third Stage? Oh come on."
< Tempting Enchantress eyes you. >
Opportunity's eyes narrowed. An Epithet means a Third Stage or higher. By the feeling of this mysterious space, she deemed it a Third Stage. Most likely around the middle.
"War Driven Sadist? Oh what a darling name~! I do love someone who's a little unhinged."
A being stepped out of a fog that Opportunity never noticed before. Her eyes seemed to naturally glue onto the being, but the figure couldn't be made out.
<<Lyllia, the Tempting Enchantress LVL: 775>>
"Succubus?", Opportunity made a guess.
She was answered with another playful laugh. A voice wandered through the area, "You don't have a type? I excel at such things you know? You can go wild~"
"A type is it?", Opportunity pointed an axe at the flickering figure, "Here's one."
The succubus' form immediately shifted and solidified. A smile spread across her face, "Your reason?"
A smile also spread across Opportunity's. It was a smile, yet held an exact opposite meaning from Lyllia's. It was a twisted smile of a sick joy, "It's the perfect type I love beating."
"Oh you're sick~! That's fine, I entertain all forms of your desires."
"We'll see about that one."
Opportunity's grueling training with Ryolu had its numerous benefits. Yet had also taken its toll. Further diving into the persona to strike fear into the hearts of her enemies, Opportunity had become more of a sadist. This was partially to unnerve her enemy to receive the various buffs, but also because she was starting to enjoy being a sadist.
Lyllia winked and a pulse of mana shot forward. It slapped against Opportunity's forehead before shattering uselessly. Taking several slow and methodical steps forward Opportunity gave a sole warning, "Let me free. Otherwise no regrets."
"I'm not going to let playtime end so soon darling~"
Pang-!
The ground rumbled as Opportunity launched forward her dual axes spinning as she flourished them. Lyllia was stunned for a moment at the sudden speed, but rapidly regained her composure. Her nails extended and she swiped at Opportunity's hand. A thin scratch formed as Opportunity didn't bother dodging or blocking. A laugh escaped Lyllia as she winked again, this time Opportunity's whole body froze.
"War Driven Sadist? As if! You're nothing but a masochist!", Lyllia teased.
Spinning Lyllia performed a powerful kick to Opportunity's stomach. Sliding several meters back Opportunity noticed she was able to move again. Rolling her shoulders she stepped forward, "It's definitely not poison or venom. That's for sure."
"Of course not sweetie! I can't have any of my partners be inflicted with such harmful substances~"
"Just saying that's a good thing, you would've lost already if it was.", Opportunity grinned and launched forward again.
Axe and nail clashed and the faintly pink fog began to push away from the two!
At the same time, Raven Thread was rapidly handling the gargoyles. Despite being caught off guard, they weren't apart of the number one Guild for nothing! Akiol hadn't participated in this fight. Instead his senses were glued at what was happening outside of the battle. Under normal circumstances his {Way of the Galaxy} wouldn't have let a surprise attack like this happen.
He simply wasn't used to using it while surrounded by so many people. The attack had launched right as he was adjusting his technique. It was merely a lack of preparation on Akiol's behalf. One he swiftly corrected, and this opening was no longer applicable.
Closing his eyes he senses the hundreds, if not thousands, of small stars surrounding him. Each one representing an individual. Immediately he noticed Opportunity wasn't with the front force. Her disappearance meant the arrival of a Third Stage.
It was likely that Opportunity was already fighting the Third Stage, but that didn't rule out the arrival of more.
"We're being attacked already! It's as if they knew we were coming! The surprise attack is no longer applicable! How do we proceed?", Seven Vows' voice rang in the ears of those who wore the communication magic.
Yielya's voice remained unwavering as she ordered, "Push forward! Our target remains the manor! If the forces prove too much to handle we will send back up!"
"Roger!"
Akiol's eyes snapped open, "There you are."
Shadowy bats began to spin in an area. Bursting apart revealed a powerful presence.
<<Sorian, the Vampire Lord LVL: 750>>
"A poor attempt at a raid! Did you really think a measly force like this was enough?!"
Outstretching a hand Sorian lifted the blood of the wounded players and formed several spikes. Raising them higher Sorian mocked, "You're simply overconfident!"
{Way of the Galaxy: Constellation}!
Bouncing across the spikes a line of aura rapidly made contact with each one. With a flash they all shattered as Akiol appeared in the air. Sorian's face turned amused, "Oh? You're presence is akin to that of a mouse, who are you?"
"A mouse?", Akiol rose by pushing against the mana.
Rising to face level Akiol was able to get a clearer look of Sorian. Unearthly pale body, a fine three piece suit colored a wine red. Glowing yet gloomy eyes meant to enchant the unknowing. They gazed at Akiol with a look filled with contempt and curiosity, "A mouse indeed. Tell me little mouse, why are you here?"
As their eyes met Sorian found himself surrounded by numerous stars. A black abyss of infinite space filled the air. Akiol didn't answer the question and instead warned, "In the face of the universe itself, even a planet is naught but a speck. To you I seem like a mouse. To me you're a piece of dust in the universe."
Aura spiked around Stars as Akiol swung without warning. Space rippled as it followed the blade. A perfectly straight cut divided Sorian into two. The World Law failed to repair the rippled space, and instead it began to rip itself apart. The cut was divided into two sides, each side pulling in opposite directions further worsening the cut.
{Way of the Galaxy: Roche Limit}!
"What?", Sorian snapped out of his daze as he found himself being torn apart. Before he could fully comprehend what was occurring, the World Law finally kicked in and space snapped back into place. The force made a shockwave and knocked Sorian tumbling towards the ground.
Before hitting the ground Sorian burst apart into several bats and they scattered away. Akiol frowned at the sight, that single slash was meant to finish off Sorian. The retreat was not unnoticed, but he did not give chase. His current goal was to provide backup to Raven Thread now that Opportunity was missing. Leaving them open to Third Stage intervention would spell their swift end.
Not helping with the gargoyles, Akiol returned to meld in with the crazed fighting. There wasn't a need to assist with the stone creatures, Raven Thread had almost finished handling that initial force.
'This was an underestimation on their end.' -Stars
"I'm not so sure. Something is amiss.", Akiol remained alert.
This was too small of a force to counter a raid! Something else was at play!
