Capítulo 470: Search For The Source!

"Hmm."

Thud-thud-thud-

"Hmmmmm."

Thud-

"How long is this suppose to take again?"

The thudding stopped, "Patience is a virtue."

"I have been patient! But the silence is killing me."

"Then speak."

Wrock crossed his arms. Currently he was sitting upon Guarton's back. Due to the effect of Rebirth the heat that Guarton emitted caused no harm to him. So Jarvis asked for the two to pair up.

"Right so, according to the Moon there are three likely locations the source of Heresy is supposed to be."

"Correct."

"And we are at one of said locations."

"You remain correct."

"So why has it been a whole day but you keep slamming your tail against the ground."

". . ."

Thud-

Wrock felt his shoulders slump, "We're supposed to be partners here!"

"It's the only way I can search through the coating of Heresy that seeped deep into the land. Since we only have an area I'm searching carefully to not miss anything."

"Right right, which brings me to my next question. What exactly is Heresy? It's been used to describe several things so far. But personally I've only come across an energy."

"It is. . . A broad term. It describes anything the World rejects."

"So this whole area is rejected by this 'World'?"

"No, rather the things that the World has rejected has blended in with everything. Like how water makes the dirt wet."

"Right, and since this place is pretty much home to several creatures deemed as Heresy, I presume it's quite thick?"

"Precisely."

"Then that brings me to my next question, why are you being so careful?"

Thud-thud-

"Two reasons, since the Heresy is so thick my command over the earth is heavily reduced. Like the difference between walking on solid ground and wading through thick mud. Secondly, if I proceed carelessly the Heresy could cling to me. Which would dull my senses and efficiency.", Guarton paused for a moment before adding, "And it's a pain to get rid of."

Wrock chuckled, "Sounds like that is the main reason."

Thud-

Crossing his arms Wrock stared at the ground. Narrowing his eyes a flicker of Azure flame appeared in them. With a half asking, half murmuring tone he spoke, "How would one get rid of Heresy?"

"The Sun will slowly turn the world back to normal."

"Right, so why hasn't it already?"

"There is still Heresy roaming."

". . . Fair enough."

Wrock looked upwards, the Azure flame still flickering. Glancing about he paused for a moment before blinking, which snuffed out the flame.

"Can I get a rough estimate of our progress?"

". . . About three-fifths."

"And we haven't found anything?"

"No."

"Bets on this location being a dud?"

"I do not gamble."

"It's not gambling!"

"What would you explain it as?"

"Well, I mean I suppose it is technically gambling. But I don't mean to actually gamble, just your guess on whether or not something will be here."

"So just ask that."

"Argh it's hard to explain. It's a more fun way to go about it. Additionally sometimes you can bet insignificant things. Or say you will bet something but both ends know it's not actually a bet."

"Needlessly complicated."

"You could say that about everything when it comes to making conversation."

". . ."

"Ha! That's interesting."

Travis frowned, "What is?"

Averoth's silhouette form manifested and he leaned against a tree, "Nothing of concern for now. More importantly this place is—well it's none of our problem."

"Right. . . So where is your key?"

"That'll be an issue. Heresy is so thick here I can't feel it anywhere."

Travis closed his eyes, it seemed like this quest was going to be a bit annoying. If he had to deal with issues for every key then he wasn't entirely sure if it was worth the time.

Averoth snorted, "Not my fault someone decided to make this their home. Like I said, this Heresy isn't our problem. Not like you have a method to deal with it anyway. This only delays us slightly. Going to have to take a more hands on approach."

"So I have to manually search. How long is that going to take?"

"Why are you always rushing about? Acting like you have places to be."

"I could be spending this time to grow stronger."

"Mm, well doping up on Power Crystals certainly isn't a very good choice."

"What?"

"You got lucky is what I'm trying to say. Sure a few here and there provides a bit of a boost. But you went and made your entire foundation off of them."

"There shouldn't be any side effects, I wouldn't have used them if there was."

"There isn't! It's not the side effects that I'm talking about—never mind, just know you got lucky. We're here for the key, not a discussion of poor choices."

"We'll speak of this later, for now point me in the right direction."

Averoth stared at Travis, "Did you not hear me say I can't feel it anywhere?"

"World's greatest fighter here."

"World's greatest listener! Just, find some old ruins or something. This place changed too much it's most likely not where I had it left."

"I guess it's a start."

"Sheesh! Beginning to second guess my choices on choosing you."

"Mm."

Bzzt-

Gear made an obvious fake cough, "So what exactly is all of this."

Bzzzzt-

Kan'na paused, "It's an experiment, just trying different things to see what can counter the Heresy."

"Right so. . . how exactly? I mean aren't spells just a bunch of Skills?"

"If you're an ordinary spellcaster sure. I work on a far more complicated level.", Kan'na lifted her palm to show a glowing rune, "Each and every spell I make is handcrafted. You can think of it like programming."

A strained face appeared on Gear, "That sounds like a lot to handle."

"You're not wrong. You have to learn a whole language, and then be proficient enough to use it quickly in the middle of battle. Although I suppose it could be used for more. . . passive ways."

"That's so hard to grasp. You mean in that battle, the spell you created in seconds you made by scratch?"

"This is correct. It's easier to believe with an example, give me something to make into a spell."

"Can you. . . uh, turn lead into gold?"

"You would not be the first to ask that, nor the last. No I cannot, modifying something on such a precise level is outside my skill range right now. Also I would probably get in a lot of trouble so it's not worth looking into."

"You make it sound like you could if you tried though."

"I will not participate in your get rich quick schemes."

"O-Okay, uhh maybe a fireball that changes colors?"

"Easy."

Kan'na spun a finger and a magic circle formed almost immediately. Pointing it towards a tree she fired it, and a colorful fireball shot forward whilst rotating through various colors. As it was about to hit a tree she snapped her fingers and the fireball vanished, "Although I don't want to start a forest fire."

Gear's attention was drawn towards the direction the fireball shot towards. Mouth agape he stammered, "You-you actually did that?! I expected you to make another excuse but you did that in less than a second?!"

"Visual tricks are among the easiest to perform when it comes to manifesting the spells. Although it's nearly pointless, since it just takes extra space."

"Nearly? Could there be a use for it?"

"I found fighting something that can't see green with green magic incredibly useful."

Gear chuckled at the monotone joke, "So the magic you were using earlier, was that you trying out various combinations? Like stumbling upon the answer?"

"It's the only method I can think of, if I can just find something small I could easily branch from that. But among everything I tried I hardly got a response."

"Well if the sun is Heresy's worst enemy could you replicate the sun. . . ?"

"The Sun is just a big flaming ball of gas, that I could make in my sleep.", Kan'na looked to the side whilst muttering, "Although not that size."

"Of course you cannot replicate the Sun. It is not the center of light that counters the Heresy.", spoke Whitelash, who they had been riding the entire time.

Whitelash had no knowledge of magic, and considering the World deemed Kan'na a Sage he believed he would be of no help in the conversation. However on the topic of the World's enemies, he believed he would be more proficient at knowing their weakness.

"The light the Sun provides is the source, it is the world that changes it to burn away Heresy. Like how one cannot make a sword with iron alone, but rather needs the tools and skill."

Kan'na submersed herself in thought, a magic circle slowly forming at her fingertips as her eyes dulled from the lack of focus. As soon as the circle completed her eyes snapped open and a light flashed. A faint smile appeared on her lips, "Whitelash, besides being known as a Sage, what else does the Title provide me?"

"I do not understand the question."

"Titles provide small merits as a form of celebration for your feats. One on the level of Sage should naturally be more in depth than what it seems on surface."

"It merely means the world has selected you among the most proficient. It is no exaggeration to say that not a single person can best you in your knowledge of magic."

"But this does mean the World recognized me right?"

". . . Yes, but I am still not sure of your intention."

"Originally whilst I messed with the World Law, I felt some sort of animosity towards me. However once I obtained this title it's no longer there."

"I am unfamiliar with the term 'World Law'."

"The force of nature in the world. It's what I named the strange occurrence that repairs torn and cut space."

Whitelash slid to a halt, "You. . . messed with the World?"

"It was an experiment! I wished to understand what drove the space to be repaired. So I may or may not have ripped it here and there, among other things."

"It has become clear why you were granted the Title of Sage, however you were close to becoming an enemy of the World."

"However since it acknowledged me I presume I can. . . get away with a bit more?"

"Do not push it."

"I'm not going to go and tear holes through space again, I just wanted to see what else the World Law could do. If it can alter sunlight then there very well may be something else I can utilize. Perhaps to our advantage?"

"Do not push it.", Whitelash said again in a deeper tone.

"I will not cause any harm to the World."
