When Volkner was connected to Royal Pokemon Online the first sound that reached his ears was a female voice.

He looked around to see who had spoken to him, but there was no one else; a space within the universe. Then he realized he was in the middle of activating a new account.

"Yea!"

— Select your avatar name—

"Volkner," he said, For Volkner seemed more suited to him. He didn't want to use his old Nick.

— Select your gender from male, female, or neuter—

"Male!"

— Royal Pokemon Online currently has only one race. You can only select the human class.—

"Human!"

--You can change your appearance—

"The way I am."

-His account has been activated. Your stats will be determined while you are playing Royal Pokemon Online -

"Pass!"

— Select a city you want to start or the Continent -

"Pallet City, On the Kanto Continent!"

—Welcome to Pokemon Online—

"Pass!"

Afraid of wasting even a second, Volkner skipped the tutorial step and made quick decisions according to his pre-arranged plan. The monthly bill for the game was a big expense for him.

In Pokemon Online, there are over a hundred major cities and thousands of cities. A new player begins his adventure in capital or large city of comparable size.

Similar to where Volkner is starting.

Snapshot!

With a flash of light, he appeared in Pallet City in Kanto.

"That is…"

Volkner was influenced by the sight of countless avatars, users, and NPCs – Non-Player Characters – that he felt was lost in the middle.

"Where am I? Unbelievable!"

Astonished, Volkner couldn't believe his eyes as he looked around. The noise of those bargaining and chattering resounded in his ears. The view unfolding before his eyes was exactly the same as in the real world, with busy people coming and going.

He looked down at his legs that were on the floor. His senses told him he looked absolutely solid. Strangers passed him as he stood in a trance.

"Look at him. I'm sure he's a rookie."

"Looks like he's never played a VR game before."

As he passed, some users threw fleeting comments over his shoulders. They hurt him enough to pull himself together.

They are right. This is Pokemon Online. The world of virtual reality and my new workplace.

No matter how carefully Volkner prepared, his knowledge of virtual reality and his research into the game system came second to the strange experience he was now having.

He was confused, but it was temporary, and soon he calmed down, the differences also started to get his attention.

His senses were consistent with reality, but the people around him were dressed in armor or wearing leather vests.

Near where he had appeared was a notice board displaying maps and descriptions of the Continente Kanto, and instructions for using the basic interface.

It's time for me to start.

Volkner clenched his fist, and then he began to exercise. He sat down and stood up, and then continued with high heels, rolling, kicking, and punching.

He twisted at the waist and carefully tested one joint after the other. He wiggled his fingers and toes and shook his head back and forth.

Even as a tsunami of demeaning comments poured in from other nearby users, Volkner was determined to overcome it.

"What the hell is he doing now?"

"It looks like he's moving his body. I think he's still uncomfortable with the VR game."

"Oh I see. But what's the point of putting on a show in the middle of a crowded street?"

The sense of humiliation that Volkner was fighting so hard to contain overcame his determination. What a scene he was making in front of strangers.

"Damn it!" Volkner left in a hurry and went elsewhere.

A newcomer to the game is confined to their home city for one week in the real world and four weeks in the game, thanks to a parallax between one place and another.

The vast majority of newcomers were doing basics, simple quests or learning craft skills, cooking, blacksmithing, and studying pokemons, which are relatively easy to acquire.

The game boasts of its unrestricted flexibility, almost to the point of clutter, and while all of the higher-ranking positions are still held by NPCs rather than users, this reinforces the need for personal contacts.

On the other hand, a considerable number of users work in libraries or stores to earn money. Almost like a black market for items.

The Central Square is filled with would-be merchants who set up kiosks to buy and sell with other users, and many new adventure-seeking parties are formed there every minute.

After casually observing them, Volkner didn't hesitate to head to the Training Facility. He was delighted to see countless different creatures along the way.

The Training Room is open to any user as long as they want, and most users visit the room to try out their Pokemon's abilities or train themselves.

It's almost impossible to find someone who, like Volkner, would go straight to the Training Hall once they created a new avatar.

It's not just that newcomers are more interested in finding out what the kingdom and city they were born in is like, but also why training at the Training Facility is considered ineffective.

People tended to go to arenas where they could fight each other instead of training.

The moment the instructor saw Volkner enter the entrance, his eyes gleamed fiercely.

"Young adventurer, I assume you have arrived on the Kanto continent very recently," said the instructor.

"Yes, sir," Volkner said shortly. He was still upset that he'd made fun of himself on the first day.

"You will find sword training absolutely necessary when you come to face pokemon. Do you need my guidance? I tell you, take any scarecrow unattended and attack it however you like. A wooden sword is placed in front of a scarecrow and is all yours."

"Thank you, sir. That's enough. I don't need any more guidance."
