"That should be enough right? I have given them enough time to adapt to their Gifts."
A godly voice resounded inside a very luxurious house. This was God's Realm, Weyah's home. And Weyah had a pensive feeling but he doesn't want to be anymore. What he wanted was action.
"Heh. Yes, humanity should be powerful enough for war. Right?" Weyah said as he snapped his fingers once more. An absurd amount of power came from him and disappeared to nowhere.
What he just did was giving gifts to the prototypes that emerged after he released them during the initial stages of the Revelations. After cultivating humanity enough to be strong enough to fend for themselves, he now thought that the time was good for entertainment.
And now. All of the prototypes now get Gifts of their own.
"Hmm. Not all of them can use the Gifts I gave them." God said as he noticed what was happening.
He was observing the prototypes that he gave Gifts to. He observed a prototype race that lives underwater. He made these creatures develop the skills necessary to live underwater but it did not live to his standards.
Next, he observed a creature that had wings.
"Nice." He exclaimed.
A big flying creature breathed fire on his television. The fire aspect of the creature was a Gift from him, of course. These creatures were made because he wanted them to dominate the sky, but he made it too powerful so he locked them up.
For the next one, there was a creature with 8 limbs. It was an octopus, but this octopus was walking on land and had the size of a barge. This creation was a pet project of Weyah in the long past just because he was curious if a creature could live with 8 limbs.
Due to that creature being a bit too big, he had it locked away and took inspiration from it. And thus he made spiders and a smaller octopus which he put in water instead.
He continued observing his creatures that somehow learned to use their Gifts. Most of them could not use the Gifts due to their innate lack of thought but it was all good in the eyes of Weyah.
"Hmm. I wonder how Adam is doing? I haven't bothered him in years." And so with a single thought from God, appeared Adam safely growing in The Vault.
After observing that Adam was growing in a safe environment, Weyah nodded to himself and was satisfied. He could see that Adam had learned magic due to Brian, a person he summoned - kidnapped from another world that he did not manage.
"He's growing too easily. It is time for him to face some hardship." Weyah said with a smile.
God thought for a while and looked around Adam's vicinity. The only variables that he could use were the Folinr that were not interested in disturbing a large group of people. The Folinr were scavengers, after all, they would not go out of their way to disturb human civilization.
"How about I make all of these Folinr go hungry? They should be agitated enough to attack a settlement." God mumbled to no one but himself.
But that was not enough. The Vault was a fortified underground facility fixed with a lot of security. The Folinr would not be able to find the place nor would they be interested in it.
"Hmm. Maybe give them a leader or something? And give that leader a few powerful pawns to successfully survive until he leads them towards a place full of food?"
God hatched a plan to make Adam's life a bit harder. And what he did was only to change the Folinr's body constitution that resulted in the sudden rise in the population. The numbers rose and there wasn't plenty of food, causing them to go hungry.
"Alright. I should change this one's gift to charisma and leadership." Weyah changed one certain Folinr's gift manually.
This all happened months before the events in The Vault.
In another place, separate from The Vault but was connected to it via holes on its walls, was a chamber under the ground.
Adam's vision was filled with bright light. He had goosebumps all over his body and he felt the temperature rise.
"Protective Shell!"
Adam immediately summoned a barrier to block the attack that was coming straight for him. He has no idea what it was but it was best to be careful.
Bang~
What hit his barrier was not a ranged weapon. He could see that someone used a blunt weapon to hit him and it was quite a strong force. After his vision went back to normal, he saw that one of the healthier Folinr was holding a tire iron and it was bent due to the force.
"What?" Adam was surprised.
He did not expect that a Folinr would have enough strength in their body to make that much force in one strike. Looking closely, the Folinr was standing straight, signifying that it did not use momentum to hit.
"What the hell?"
Adam looked towards another Folinr that was pointing its finger towards Adam. It was blinded, and so were the rest of the healthy Folinr, but that was not that much of a problem for them as their vision is as good as nothing at all.
It only served as a momentary distraction and for those that dealt with the flashes of light frequently, the Folinr warrior who carried a tire iron had his eyes closed since earlier. Using only its ears to determine Adam's location before striking.
"Fuck this. I need to do the family technique now." Adam crept back slowly as he said.
Ever so slowly, he crept back without taking his guard off. Staring at the healthy Folinr and warily stepped back, Adam was sweating bullets. He did not expect this situation to arise after he underestimated the Folinr.
After making a certain distance, Adam rushed off and went back.
'Run for your life!' Adam screamed within his head.
The healthy Folinr followed him because they were angry at the killer of the one that provided them food to remain as plump as they were.
Adam was rushing without caring about his footsteps being very loud despite the muffle spell. He no longer cared as all he wanted was to get out into open space.
'Fighting here will be suicidal.' He thought as he ran.
And following closely behind him were the healthy Folinr. They navigated through the tunnels quickly as it was their home space. Their natural habitat was within the ground, that would mean that they also have the advantage when fighting within.
"Fuck. Why are they so fast?" Adam cursed as he heard their hurried footsteps nearby.
He saw that they were getting closer and closer which alarmed him. He could use magic to fight them off but he wasn't sure he would get out of it unscathed. So he just did his best running.
'Alright! I can make it!'
Adam saw that he was nearing the subway station. A relatively much bigger space than the Folinr-made tunnels. The Folinr were still following him closely and due to their distance being so small -
*Flash*
"Argh"
Adam grunted as he fell while running.
He was once again blinded by the same Folinr that used the light Gift. He continued rolling on the uneven tunnel. He was so close to the station but now he sustained some damage.
"Motherfucker!"
Adam could not see anything. He could not see that the Folinr that used the tire iron earlier rushed towards him in a sprint to assault him with its bare hands.
'I can hear him!' Adam's ears worked well.
Adam forcefully continued his rolling motion to evade the attack.
"Argh."
His beaten body was beaten once more.
Now, Adam was blinded and was on the floor. The only saving grace was that he was not yet surrounded. The tunnel was not wide enough for the Folinr to completely encircle him.
"Holy shit! That is some damage." Adam exclaimed as his vision came back.
He saw that the space he has just been on was smashed. There was a small hole that enlarged like a mini-crater on the ground. This was all done in one hit from that Folinr who was having a hard time regaining his stance after such a heavy blow.
'I don't know what the hell is going on but I am just going to assume these guys have powers.'
The gears in Adam's brain overclocked. He was trying to get as much information about the situation as he could and understand every bit of it.
After thinking for a while, Adam has concluded. He didn't like what he thought of, not one bit. Alas, it is the only explanation for the current situation.
"That asshole made things shittier again." Adam realized his situation.
The God above has made things a lot harder for him, thus Adam decided to no longer care about secrecy but instead try to make sure of his survival.
"Tempest!" Adam pointed towards the Folinr that was too close for comfort as he said.
A strong gust of wind came from out of nowhere and pushed the creatures back. Adam bought himself some time with the magic.
He could have used lethal magic but he was still blinded by the light that acted like a flashbang. If he did, he would have needed to aim perfectly to slay the Folinr following him.
With the time he bought, he crawled on all fours. His crawl slowly became a crouching run, until he could fully stand while bearing with the pain. Slowly. He slowly regained his vision and after the fact, he started to run with confidence.
'Ah shit. They caught up.'
It was only to be expected. Adam was injured due to him falling earlier. But Adam was not having any of it. But in reality, Adam was no longer feeling the pain. He only slowed down because it was the usual reaction to such injuries.
"Earthen Wall!"
Adam summoned a wall using his magic.
'This should buy me enough time.'
Crash~
It was futile, the Folinr that was closest to him was a beast. It had unusual strength for its scrawny appearance. That is because it was gifted with a strength-type gift by God himself.
Seeing the Folinr break down his wall with ease, Adam stopped running. He decided to just kill this one that was constantly bugging him like an insect. Adam aimed his hand at it and gathered mana.
"Fuck you! Air Flow!"
Adam's mana moved towards the Folinr and went inside of it. It began moving all of the air within its body outside. The creature ran towards Adam but it could not reach him. It was out of breath.
"reee" The creature whined.
It tried screaming but it couldn't. He didn't have any air left to scream and could only whimper. It held its throat as it squirmed and slammed his body plenty of times on the ground. It shriveled and lied down peacefully.
Bang~
Adam fired a shot on its head and crouched. He was tired due to the sudden surprises.
The Folinr that were lagging stopped. They saw the person mercilessly kill the one with strength amongst them. They were hesitating but a cry from the light-using Folinr reminded them of their goal. They were hungry and if they were to back out now, it would be death.
Adam slowly stood menacingly. The Folinr saw him stand and they all flinched. Adam gave out an aura that was very scary to the creatures.
"Playtime is over." Adam gave a very wide grin as he said.
============================
The Cannibal within you has woken up.
============================
Due to getting injured. Adam's body healed itself but used his energy in exchange. In other words, he was hungry.
In another place. It was a very messy hall that was overrun by a huge number of Folinr. Explosions were sounding off here and there and from within the chaos was a figure. It was bloodied from head to toe and its eyes were crazed.
