Jaune touched my shoulder and closed his eyes so that he could concentrate on unlocking my aura.
Then he chanted, "For it is in duty that we become guardians. Through this, we prevent the mistakes of the past from being made anew. Infinite in scope and unbound by pride, I release your soul, and by my hand redeem thee."
As he finished his chant, someone inside of me was being released, the shackles preventing it from being free were finally gone.
Then suddenly my entire body was covered in a gray forcefield, it was my aura, to be honest. I expected it to be black, but then again I can't change the color of my soul.
It is what it is, just by getting an aura I feel changes in my body that I've never had before, I feel significantly stronger, faster, and more durable.
"Woah, this feels amazing…thanks Jaune by the way." I smiled at my friend, grateful for unlocking my aura.
"You're welcome, you have a lot of aura. It's twice as much as an average huntsmen-in-training." Jaune admitted though he looked a little pale.
The girls saw what we did, Taylor didn't really understand but was curious about what we did. From her point of view, it looked like I suddenly gained superpowers.
While Echidna wasn't even bothering to hide her unhealthy amount of interest.
"You two, what was that? Tell me." Echidna approached us.
"Umm..that was me unlocking Blake's aura..?" Jaune replied, though a bit confused by her question.
To him, aura was common, something every huntsmen-in-training had, however little did he know just by replying that to Echidna he dug a deeper hole in himself.
I just closed my eyes and gave him my silent condolence, granted it was also my fault that I never mentioned aura to her.
Frankly, I'm glad I didn't because I hate to be in Jaune's position right now.

Several minutes later, Jaune sat right next to me with a face like someone who just got his soul sucked out of his body.
"Bro, are you alright?"
"No, your girlfriend…is.." Jaune hesitated in completing his sentence.
"Go on, whatever you say I won't get mad."
"Blake, she's crazy…I-i don't want to deal with her anytime soon." Jaune shivered as he finished his words.
Instead of getting angry like he expected me to do, however, my expression was that of understanding.
"Jaune, I won't get mad at you because, I can't refute what you just said, she's not really crazy in any sense, but if it has to do with knowledge even I couldn't stop her." I give him a bitter look.
"I'm so glad we found a common ground." Jaune sighs in relief.
"So, did you unlock her aura too?" I asked curiously.
"No, I mean I did ask her if she wanted her aura to be unlocked but, she refused saying that she wouldn't get her unlocked until she gets a full understanding of how aura works, according to her aura might have so drawbacks that's why she shouldn't be careless in unlocking something unknown."
That is actually a reasonable point, to be honest, the show RWBY never fully explained how aura works, aside from giving the user a forcefield and additional strength, agility, and a personal superpower known as 'semblance' no one knows about aura aside from its positive uses.
Nothing about drawbacks at all, which is a bit too good to be true. I thought about this possibility too, however, the pros outweigh the cons.
"I see, if that's her decision then, let her be, she knows what she's doing." To be honest, I'm pretty confident that she'll figure out the secrets of aura, the full explanation, and not just the surface benefits of having an aura.
"Yeah, I'll ask Taylor if she wanted her's to be unlocked too."
I nodded and after that, he approached Taylor and the girl flinched a little.
Yeah, totally understandable she still had some issues.
I continued watching their interaction, and I saw Taylor nodding after Jaune explained about aura and its benefits, then Jaune held her hand and started chanting as he did to me.
A moment later, her aura was unlocked. It was white but isn't as white as Jaune's, her aura size is about the same as mine.
I'm sensing a pattern here, is this the benefit of being the protagonist? Either way, I'm not going to question it, the more aura she got the better.
Suddenly I heard insect noises around us, it was getting louder and louder until we got covered by a swarm of different insects.
The insect around us was plenty enough to cover a mid-size building, if I didn't know about Taylor's ability I would have been alarmed but since I know she could control insects around 2 bloc-
Wait, I stared at the insects around and realized that her control range is more than 2 blocks!
This could only mean one thing, she discovered her 'semblance'!
What the hell! She just unlocked her aura and she already got her semblance?!
I know she's a protagonist, but this is something different!
I'm not even going to lie that I'm jealous of how easily she discovered hers!
Kind of unfai-
Suddenly I started hallucinating or I thought I did.
I saw a vision of a pack of Beowolf attacking our group about 10 seconds from now on.
"....I'll be damn." It didn't take me a moment to understand what just happened, what I saw was the future, and with that, I figured that my semblance is precognition.
Like a really advanced Observation Haki from One Piece.
But better, because I didn't think that 10 seconds was the 'limit' of my semblance, I knew for sure that with time, I could look into the future further than 10 seconds.
I grin slowly formed on my lips and then I clapped to gain my group's attention.
"Guys, there's an enemy and they'll arrive in 3…2…1.. here they are!" As I finished my sentence a pack of Beowolf arrived above us.
Not only that but there's also an Alpha among the Beowolf, it's obvious because it looks significantly bigger than the rest.
Taylor froze at the sight of them, it's easy to forget that she's a newbie.
Jaune wore a serious expression on his face, he raised his guard ready to attack whether the pack of Beowolf starts moving.
Echidna was fascinated by the pack of Beowolf, she was looking at them with an intense look on her face, it was obvious that she wanted to study and dissect them.
But too bad for Echidna, she wouldn't be able to get a sample of them anytime soon.
I unsheathe my katana, and put a stance, thus the battle began.

I was wrong, it wasn't a battle, it was a one-sided massacre, a battle? What a joke!
Before any of us could actually attack the group of Beowolf, Echidna already fired her magic and the entire pack of Beowolf died like that easily.
Echidna was so disappointed that she couldn't take any sample of the Grimm, she overestimated their durability, and paid the price for it.
"What a waste…"
This is the first time I've seen her visibly disappointed, well I guess it's time to comfort her, it's my job as her boyfriend.
After brightening her mood, finally Jaune approached me and asked. "Blake, how did you know that a pack of Beowolf was coming? Did you gain a new ability perhaps?"
"Take a guess," I smirked at him.
Then he thought for a moment before his eyes widened. "Son of a bitch, you discovered your semblance?!"
"Yep, that's right and apparently it's precognition, meaning I can see 10 seconds in the future." I was really excited that finally I have a real OP ability.
"How?! I haven't even discovered my semblance!" Jaune cried in envy.
"I don't know really, it just happened." I shrugged.
"Oh, by the way, Taylor also discovered her semblance."
"WHAT?!"
Jaune quickly shifted his gaze toward Taylor. "Is it true?!"
"I-i think? I mean, my range has increased so now I can control insects anywhere around 500m." Taylor admitted.
I felt like my eyes were about to burst out of my skull.
2 blocks of range was already terrifying, what about a half kilometer? Holy shit.
To think unlocking her aura could make her this powerful? It's not an exaggeration that she benefited the most from this.
For the first time, I'm seriously glad that she's not my enemy because she's someone who's going to be so annoying to deal with.
With her increase of ability, she would be the most valuable in information gathering, with her insects around, she could literally know any kind of information as long as she had the patience.
Physical Ability be damn, she's probably going to be the most useful in this mission.

After that, we continued our journey, though Jaune was still salty about us discovering our semblance easily.
Honestly, I could tell him that his semblance might be an aura amplifier, but I won't give him false hope, as there is a high chance that it might be different.
Then I noticed that everyone stopped their tracks, while Jaune had a look of disbelief on his face, then I stared at the place where they looked.
And my eyes slowly widened at the sight.
The City of Vale was in ruin.
It was utterly destroyed.
And no it wasn't Cinder and the White Fang who did this, I just know.
"What the hell happened here?"

Nah, it ain't Cinder who destroyed Vale this time.
