Claire dabbed at the stain to no avail in the bathroom, eventually giving up when she realized she was making things worse by getting it wet. With a sigh, she headed back outside and remembered a question she meant to ask on the way to the bathroom. Alex's manners had startled her so much that she lost her train of thought.

"Hey, how did you know I was in trouble and needed rescuing from the glass?" she asked.

"I didn't know what Isabella was going to do," he said with a frown. "I saw the man who handed it to you put something in it. I was about to stop you from drinking it when she bumped into you."

Her blood ran cold. Ben, a man she literally just met tonight, was trying to spike her drink? Spiked drinks were normally associated with rape but she couldn't rule out poison since she knew there were people trying to kill her.
