Capítulo 49: Paranoid

The place was quite famous, even dubbed as the ninth wonder of the ancient world.

Zhu Donghai was pretty considerate for bringing his friends here.

"What do you think? Amazing, right?"

Chen Fang nodded. "A true feast in the eyes."

Zhu Donghai laughed and added, "At the same time, it's safe since it has enough security measures placed around."

As they followed the other tourists in their batch, Zhu Donghai took the role of a guide to his fellow students who were already wowing at the uniform lines on the walls. The lightings were cleverly placed, so it was a bit dim. Yet what needed to be seen could be seen.

"Just an introduction, guys. Longyou Caves was first discovered in 1992 by a local villager, a fisherman if I remembered correctly. This place was originally a pond or a lake and was only found by chance. So far, around 30 grottoes have been unearthed covering 30,000 square meters. Just imagine that immense size."

"The grotto contains stone rooms, bridges, gutters, and even pools. This area was pretty big. Before, these were all underneath a pond believed by the locals to be bottomless. Now, here are these many caves, open for viewing. Some had been drained and explored, and this place that we're currently touring is one of them."

The man was handsome and his eyes were glowing as he described the amazingness of the Longyou Caves. Many people naturally looked their way, and even the actual tour guide felt a bit helpless since somebody was grabbing all the attention and robbing him of his job.

Zhu Donghai added as they descended the stairs together with the other tourists. "By the experts' estimate, the underground chambers have been like created 2,000 years ago. However, none of the records from ancient times unearthed so far showed any trace of its construction. Nobody knows who built them and why. Could you believe that?"

"Hmm. But given the massive size of these grottoes, only emperors and powerful noble clans could have organized this, right?" replied Chen Fang who was marveling at the ancientness of the cave's interior, especially the ever-present line patterns that seemed to be symbolic in some way.

"Yeah, more likely, an emperor. This friggin' place at first glance already looks like it had been constructed by hundreds of thousands, if not millions of people. The resources spent must be friggin' immense. Who else but an emperor can be that whimsical?"

"So the question now is, which emperor?" asked Chen Fang.

The others nodded. Zhu Donghai's girlfriend giggled and glanced at her boyfriend, "It's you who said there're no records about it. No history."

Zhu Donghai laughed. Behind them, the others were already talking to each other and of course, taking pictures and shooting vlog diaries.

Chen Fang had never been anywhere like this. Remembering how difficult the last two years of his past life had been to him, he became more emotional. So more than anyone in the group, he was the one running around everywhere. Two girls in their group of six scorned at him and called him country bumpkin, yet he didn't mind.

"Let's rest for now." When the girls became tired of walking, Zhu Donghai's girlfriend represented them in asking for a break.

"You guys take a seat there then." Chen Fang kindly pointed to a slightly elevated spot which could be an excellent resting place. He then said, "I still want to look around."

The craftsmanship displayed all around them was stunning considering that the creators of the place were definitely ancient people. The chiseled lines and drawings on the walls and pillars were breathtaking.

Though, after walking around for half an hour, exploring the five huge chambers connected by tunnels and stars, the sight became pretty repetitive.

When he was about to leave, one of the ladies raised an eyebrow at him.

"You go back soon then," said the girl whose name Chen Fang could not remember since she was from a different college department.

"Sure," he replied.

Who knew this whimsical idea of this youth would lead him into helping the fox demoness escape again? Somehow, the fight actually led the two parties in this tourist spot.

Only, this time, Chen Fang and the fox demon did not meet. Chen Fang accidentally entered a chamber that was still not opened for tourism and triggered a mechanism there. The result was that the demoness trapped in the adjacent room managed to find a new escape route. The pursuer was left speechless, in great disbelief of the woman's unbelievable luck.

The person who did not know he caused another trouble for his fellow human simply went back to where he came from.

After he reported what he had accidentally found, he returned to his companions.

Meanwhile, the turn of events made Zhang Mei Xing lose her cool.

'My god.'

If she did not know the man was still not really an acquaintance of the demoness, she would have thought this was all under her calculation and that Chen Fang went there just to help the demoness.

'This creepy woman is giving me the illusion that she could manipulate her luck and fate. Am I just being paranoid?'
