"That's correct." The unseen entity answered.
Strangely, she could imagine, or more appropriately put, 'feel' the other smiling gently at her even though it was somebody without a body. The invisible entity replied lightheartedly, "It's a pleasure for me to meet you, Miss Zhang and I know you have a lot of questions. But there is something more important to be discussed, so I would like to ask you a few questions first."
Zhang Mei Xing involuntarily she nodded, or rather, imagined herself doing so. There was only one person who could clear her doubts, and it was the unseen entity. As she would be on the receiving end, of course, she had to agree to the demand of the other party. "Please, ask away, Sir."
Her attitude seemed to have won the guide's approval as she could feel his mood getting uplifted a bit. Don't ask her how she knew. It was out of instinct.
The other party did not dilly dally any more.
"So do you believe it's okay to pass away just like that?" That was the first one.
A question that elicited dry laughter from her.
Zhang Mei Xing did not even have to waste time thinking about the answer. "Sir, of course not."
'Who even asks something as obvious as that?' It was what she whispered in her heart.
Most definitely, everyone at her age and with unfinished businesses would not hesitate to agree with that.
She remembered every unsaid word that she wanted to tell her parents and sister hours ago, but couldn't. She had to hold them in as she knew they would only sound weird. Look, who would find their daughter normal if they suddenly heard her apologizing for passing away early, even though she was standing perfectly fine before them?
This point was already an alarm. The words were left unsaid since her parents and sister in that world were not the real ones in the first place.
Passing away so early. Not even at the prime of her life… Not being able to repay the couple who raised her for years… She was happy to see their faces. She could even pretend and treat them as the real deal. But how could there be no regrets?
The guide read her mind and asked again, "You believed there are still many things you can do, right? Regrets that you at least want to wash away."
"Yes." It was the truth, so she admitted it, unashamed.
"So you haven't fulfilled those in that world?"
Zhang Mei Xing's brain fell into deep thought for a while. If she had a body or at least a face, her mouth would have fallen open. Or she would have chewed on her lower lips to show how conflicted she suddenly was about the question.
'It was an entire day.' She felt grateful for it since at the very least, for the last time, she managed to see her loved ones.
But had she really done all that she should?
The question that came to her after escaped from her mouth.
"… Have I really fulfilled any of those in the first place?"
The moment those words echoed in the place, silence immediately took over.
When no reply came to her immediately, Zhang Mei Xing finally realized that she might have said something she should not. 'Oh my god. Oh my god! What did I just do!'
The girl panicked, and it showed in her eyes. 'At this rate, the guide might think I am like an ungrateful b*tch. After being given an opportunity, I complained instead of expressing gratitude!'
If she only had a face, the colors from it must have been drained by now, turning deathly pale.
Thankfully, the other party seemed to not mind her words and even found them intriguing. Don't ask her how she managed to tell that the guide was amused. It was just a gut feeling, which was proven true when the voice rang again, sounding like he was in a good mood. "Good question, Miss Zhang. Good question."
The pair of pants and shirt bobbed slightly, which gave her the notion that their owner had just nodded.
The guide merrily continued. "Actually, you are right to ask that."
"Yes, sir?" she hesitantly, and rather timidly blurted out.
"I said you are correct. After all, if I were to answer you with all honesty, it is a no. There are no grievances or regrets addressed. Because the world you experienced a while ago was just a replica, a fake."
