Capítulo 583: LOG 32: Carmen Desert
The desert was a warm and expansive golden brown, as wide open as it is ever possible to imagine. A lone drop of sweat made it's way down my back, leaving a trail of temporary coolness in its wake. The heat was so devastating I thought I was going to shrivel up on the spot, dehydrated. I didn't usually feel this drained, this parched. The sun seemed to bite into me, to eat into my skin and eyes despite thin apparel and dark glasses.
"My, I wouldn't be shocked if we found a body lying on the floor."
"Oh, please. I've experienced worse."
"You've been to other deserts, I assume? Excluding the Desert Resort-- That, that one's obvious."
"The Hoenn Desert. It's more intense than what your Unova and this has to offer. Eek, where are we anyway?" I said and looked at my surroundings. There was literally nothing but the flatness of the ground. No twig, no presence of any life, Pokemon or human, no buildings and structures and no clouds at all.
"Hmmm... All that's in my map is..." She pointed north. "Yellow stuff." She pointed south. "Yellow stuff." She pointed east. "Yellow stuff." She pointed west. "And more yellow stuff."
"Oh, great. No towns? For water?"
"Hehe, Carmen Desert is at the tippy tip of Arid. There's no escape unless you want to swim to Valkrie which is just a few miles from the coast a hundred kilometers ahead of us."
"Your optimism annoys me." I sighed. "Well, no wonder why these 'authorities' hid it here." I yelled. "There's nothing but sand and dust!"
"Not unless..." Valery sent out a Pokemon of hers. "Seviper, go underground and check if you see any important stuff in this spot."
"Oh, yeah, yeah, we can do that." I said sarcastically. "Or we could just use this!" I pulled out the Item Finder from my bag.
"Oh..." She returned Seviper to its Pokeball. "Why didn't you use since earlier?"
"Your Seviper reminded me. Thanks a lot."
I turned on the device and it began scanning the entire route. We waited for about five minutes as it wasn't picking up anything. We were losing hope when three beeps coming from it restored our positivity.
"It's there!" Valery said and pointed eastward. On the device was a yellow dot that radiates, hinting something could be found underneath.
We were led by the Item Finder and once we were below it, we sent out Zorua and Seviper to do the digging for us.
<Zor!> Zorua emerged first and brought back to us what appears to be an astrolabe.
"Oh, it's not it."
"Then I'll take that instead." She grabbed it from me. "Thanks!"
"What are you going to do with that?"
"Sell it. Good old stuff for high rate!"
Seviper came next and brought to Valery a rare cylindrical metal object.
"There's another one?" I asked myself as there was only one item present in the Item Finder.
I took off the seal and slid to my hand a rolled brown paper with a faint-vanilla stench.
I unfurled it which then revealed to us an illustration of a Pokemon with seven rings.
"Er... This Pokemon kinda is familiar to me."
"You've encountered it before?"
"No. Maybe? Hmm... It's either my memory is being lazy or maybe it's just one of father's old tales. Can't distinguish between the two," she said.
<Zor! Zor!>Zorua came back up for the third time. He was willing to compete the nasty Seviper. The object he brought up couldn't also be identified through the Item Finder.
"That must be it, right?"
"Hmm... Does look like a glass to me."
"Try throwing it. If it breaks, it's definitely glass!"
I sighed again.
"You know I was just joking right? Come on, you have to smile once in a while."
"For some reason, I remember saying that to someone before."
She placed Zorua's item into one of those transparent orbs.
"This mission is extremely easy. We've gotten like two or three pieces together? How did the other agents fail, I wonder?"
"Maybe they didn't have an Item Finder like you."
"Frankly, I was expecting some kind of ruins to appear and show up! Then an awesome trial that needs to take place in order to take the fragments." All that came from my Johto memory. "Or there could be this Pokemon who is the guardian of this shard!"
"In shorter words?"
"Everything feels contrived. Wrong."
"Or... Maybe we're just lucky. Don't be too confident. Remember, I got myself frozen."
A bird's shrill echoed above our foreheads. Out of the blue, shadows formed and covered ours. There was a bit of a sense of cool because of how the shadow of a bird covered our body against the sun.
"Incoming!" Valery said upon looking up with her binoculars.
"How many?"
"Two, apparently."
"Damn it. Must be Dawn and Logan again."
"No... Do they both have a Pidgeot?"
"Huh? Give me that." I borrowed her binoculars. "Who on Earth are they?"
