Capítulo 34: Guy

'We have been looking for you since a long time, Miss Runner.' Guy said, twisting my arms even more and pushing me forward at the same time. We were moving back to the forest apparently. Kutz's phone rang and he spoke tersely for a few seconds.

'Guy, Jack got her pal. He's hurt quite badly,' he said with relish.

I thought that my heart would stop. My plan had backfired badly and Dave was bearing the brunt of it. He was hurt and I shuddered to think of what Jack might be doing to him.

''But the humans got away,' he added.

'We don't need them now. They have served their purpose.'

I had blindly fallen in their trap, but there was still a chance for me to get away from them. All I had to do was convince them to free my hands, I would use the locket to try to move to Dave. I would then transport him to Bhuvar so that he could get cured.

'Thinking of a plan to escape, Miss Runner?' Guy asked before cackling like the villains in films, except that it sounded more sinister when live.

We had now reached the edge of the forest and I dragged my feet, hoping to buy some time.

'I wouldn't do that if I were you. My friend here hasn't had a decent meal since days and he would love to take a bite of you,' Guy said, giving me a slight push.

'What do you want?' I asked him, trying not to show my fear.

''You know what I want. I never thought that Fira's daughter would be that stupid.'

I looked at him in surprise. I didn't know that he was acquainted with my mother. Dave had only told me of how he attacked his mother, but nothing about mine.

'Why act so surprised? You didn't think I would keep an eye on the family of the vampire who killed my brother, did you?'

So it wasn't only about the passageway, he had a grudge against us as he believed my mother had a hand in killing his mother. I had no way of knowing whether it was the truth or not.

'Your mother was the guardian and now that she's dead, you're the guradian and you're going to lead us to the gate.'

I scoffed and looked at him straight in the eyes. 'I don't even know where it is, and do you think that if I knew I would lead you to it?' It was true, I didn't know where it was, so I wasn't lying.

'That's not possible, your mother was the guardian...'Guy started, with a touch of impatience. He took a rope that Kutz handed to him and tied my hands behind my back tightly.

'She died a few days after my birth, I didn't even know her,' I said with regret. 'Hell, I didn't even know she was a vampire until a few days ago.

'I see that you are not going to talk like this. Maybe some werewolf toxin would make you become more loquacious,' he said, his face becoming more furry as I watched him, and his fangs growing too. He ripped apart the sleeve of my jacket exposing my forearm to the cold air. 'One last chance,' he said, but I didn't react. I then felt a burning sensation and a sharp stabbing pain where Guy had planted his teeth in my forearm.

I looked at my throbbing arm, where the skin was inflamed. The skin was broken slightly, so there was a little blood. But it was covered in his saliva which was penetrating the wound. I thought about what Dave had told me about werewolves' saliva and how it was toxic to vampires, depending on the doses. Very soon, the toxin would enter my bloodstream and I would have convulsions and the pain would become too harsh to bear.

'We just have to wait,' Guy said and he seated me on the root of a big tree. He took his phone and went a few meters ahead, leaving me with Kutz who was staring at me with hunger.

I waited for the extreme pain to come, but all I could feel was the throb from where he had bitten me. In the meanwhile, I also thought about Dave and wondered in which condition he might be. Kutz had said that he was hurt. Did he get bitten by Jack? Was his body being tortured by the toxin as well? I felt despair invade my system, thinking if I would ever get to feel the touch of his hands on me, taste his smile, joke with him. These past days had been wonderful despite the underlying tension. He had taken my isolation away and made the transition to becoming a vampire so easy. My nostrils flared at the thought of how he was caught in this trap due to me and anger claimed me. The desire to rip Kutz apart with my bare hands and teeth took over as I looked at him lying down. The blood rushed to my head, making my face heat up. I struggled against the rope, but it was too tight and I felt it biting into my wrist.

I then tried to assess the effet of the toxin on me, to see if it was having an effect on me.

'You're half-werewolf,' my mind whispered to me, 'maybe that's why it's not having an effect on you. Pretend that it's having an effect.' Yes, but what kind of reactions was I supposed to be having? Usually in movies, when the characters were administered a toxin, they started having convulsions and foaming at the mouth.

I started twisting and groaning in pain while keeping an eye on what Kutz was doing. He was looking at me in satisfaction so I guessed I wasn't overdoing it.

Guy came over and looked at me. 'Good, it's working. Jack is not answering his phone. That fool, he always forgets it around.' He squatted by my side and peered at my face, where sweat had pooled above my lips from the effort of trying to loosen the rope. 'Ready to talk now, Miss Runner?'

'Say yes, and lead him to a place deep in the forest. Make any pretext and have him untie one of your hands and you can use your locket then.' The little voice in my head was coming up with good plans. I groaned loudly one more time and nodded. He pulled me up violently and my knees buckled under my weight. In that position, my right leg had gone to sleep. Guy didn't show me any sympathy and pulled me up right away.

'Where to?'

'I lifted my right hand and and thought of which direction I needed to point to. An unseen force seemed to guide my hand and I pointed to the south. We started walking, and from time to time I remembered to groan in pain so as to keep up the pretence. From time to time, Guy would ask me to confirm the direction, which I did. We had been walking for 15 minutes when I stopped. That area looked familiar to me, and looking around, I recognized the layout of the forest. I had come here earlier, but I didn't remember when.

'The locket had led you to the real gate,' the voice whispered and looking around, I realised that it might indeed be true. So not only was I in danger, I had almost revealed the secret of the passage as well. How was I going to get out of this situation? The groan was real this time.
