Capítulo 28: Part XXVIII

My heart races fast as I stand in front of this mirror wearing the dress and shoes Sean got me with my hair packed in a ponytail.

The black circles around my eyes are so evident, but no more than the fact that I've lost a lot of weight. I almost couldn't recognize myself when I first came in before I took my bath. A long relaxing bath, although I couldn't close my eyes for fear of what I might see.

I wonder what Sean has planned out and who the people I'm meeting are. Are they the ones that'd determine what to be done with me? I'm so confused and indifferent as well right now.

I wouldn't fight for my life, nor would I ask for an easy death. If my death is what this is all about, then I can't wait to meet these people.

Sighing, I leave the bathroom and enter into the room to find Sean standing by the window and looking through it in a black suit. His shoulders looking really broad and even the thick material of his suit can't hide his strong biceps.

Sensing my presence, he turns around and a nervous smile takes over his face as he drinks me up with his eyes, making me feel really insecure and vulnerable.

"Wow." He breathes out and I look at him, "I've always known I've got good taste when it comes to fashion. You look good Crystal."

His method of complimenting is nothing like Dylan's. Dylan would tell me I made the dress look good, not the dress making me look good.

"Alright," he says again coming closer and standing in front of me, "there are a few things you must keep in mind today."

"First is you need to be able to talk to me when asked. I repeat, talk to me when asked. And only me. Do not breathe a word to anyone else, no matter how intimidating they look or act. Secondly, do not act on your own accord. Do only what I tell you to do." He stops and looks me in the eye with all seriousness. "I mean everything I just said. Do you understand?" He asks and I keep mute, still looking at him.

"Everything I just said starts now Crystal." He says again and I hesitate before nodding once.

"Speak Crystal." He says again sounding a little frustrated.

"I understand." I whisper and he smiles, holding my hand firmly in his.

"Let's do this then." He says and I remember Dylan said those exact words to me when we left for the cabin. I hope this isn't another similar experience. I swear to put a knife through my own heart if it is.

We walk towards the door and he opens it without a key which I frown at but stay silent, keeping in mind that I have to.

Keeping shut wasn't problem until it became mandatory. Why do I have to do what this man says like I'm some slave or robot, just like he asked me to kill Dylan and I did. His hand in mine suddenly starts irritating me and I wanna pull away but he holds it firm and I don't try anymore.

I should probably just behave myself till I know what's going on.

We leave the room and enter into a beautiful passage with so many doors similar to mine and I can see a part of the living room but I'm sure I'd be able to see a generous part of it if I go close to the railings.

I look to my right and see a black door at the end of the passage different from the other brown ones, we turn left and I see a flight of stairs leading downstairs and we descend slowly, fear trying to find its way to me but Sean's hand in mine gives me a sense of protection, a tiny voice in my head telling me he wouldn't hurt me as bad as I want to be hurt.

We finally reach the bottom of the stairs and his grip in my hand tightens as he takes in a deep breath, obviously nervous about something.

The atmosphere in this place changes the closer we get to the dining table and by the time we get there, the aura changes completely.

All the sits on the table are occupied by different strange people except for the chair at the head of the table and an empty one to it's left.

Their attention is shifted towards us as they notice our presence and their curious eyes assessing us, making me feel like running away from here but he takes my hand and we walk to the empty seats, the sound of his shoe echoing in the silence.

Surprisingly, he pulls out my chair for me and I nervously sit after which he sits at the head of the table with a straight face, emitting such great and authoritative power that I never felt nor knew he had.

"It's been quite a while." He says, his voice strange yet familiar, holding so much authority and command. Not once have I looked up at him nor his 'visitors' and I want it to stay that way.

"Yes Sean", a manly voice says, sounding so close I'm sure he's sitted next to me, "it's been quite a while."

Sean doesn't respond and the tension in the air is impossible to hide, the feeling bringing back memories of Dylan and Jake together at the table and all I wanna do right now is be by myself, away from whatever all this is.

"I've missed you Sean." A feminine voice suddenly breaks the short and unnerving silence. I can tell she's sitted opposite me but before she can say anything else, another voice interrupts her.

"Miranda! That's no way to speak to him." By 'him', I know it's Sean he refers to but I'm still very much confused.

"Oh please." Miranda, I'm guessing her to be, says again, "I'm sure he doesn't mind. After all, I don't speak what is untrue. I really did miss him."

"Well, it doesn't seem he feels the same way from the look on his face though." Another voice says and subtle laughter erupts amongst them, a sudden movement catches my attention and I see Sean balling his fists tightly, out of anger or nervousness, I'm not sure.

"I don't think we're gathered today to talk about who misses whom and whatnot." Sean's voice booms in the room, quieting down everyone and I could swear a single drop of water would be clearly heard in this silence.

"I barely have time to spare so I would appreciate we go straight to the matter at hand." He comes again and my heart skips a bit at the authority he commands and his thick voice quite different from the one I'm used to.

"Can we really discuss it?" Miranda says again, sounding a little bit sassy, "in front of a stranger?."

My heart beat quickens and the hair on my body stands as the room goes silent and I can feel eyes burning into my body but I keep my head low and my eyes closed. I'm very aware I'm the stranger she speaks of and I wait patiently for a "crucify her!" or a "nail her to the cross!" or better still a "feed her to dogs and leave her scraps for the vultures to feast on!" but to my utmost dismay and shock, I hear something even more alarming and unbelievable, shaking me to my roots and for the first time, I look up and into Sean's eyes, searching for the humor but finding none.

"She's no stranger Miranda. She's my betrothed."
