Capítulo 23: No place is safe
"Mike, what I said just now, I mean it. I am afraid that no place is safe enough for now. We can propose to build buildings that are similar to a sterile room that is also explosion-proof as much as we can. It will be beneficial for those who live outside of the rings of volcanic eruption, but the number of survivors would be limited, and I am sure it will be a targeted survival."
"A colony will be rescued and live in a pod, where all the desirable people were chosen who have all the specialties needed to survive in a new world will live, while the people who cannot contribute anything towards the society will be left behind to survive by themselves during the disaster."
"Hah, never have I thought that the same plot of all disasters movie will be used in real life. Now that we have the secret bunker, built only for the privileged to survive, and the others are left to die... I mean, what else would come true next?" Jeff laughed loudly.
" 'To ensure that the future generation would have a perfect gene, a selection for an amicable person with extraordinary abilities, and a brilliant mind should be the chosen one for the new world. They must be cleared of all hereditary diseased, did not have any psychological history, a healthy body, and most important of all must be from a reputable family with lots of money to pay for the survival cost.' Mike, don't you think the plots in the movie are the same as we are experiencing right now?" Mike just let Jeff speak up his mind. He understands how Jeff is feeling right now.
"Tell you Jeff, you need to make yourself the desirable ones before those people noticed you and willing to take you into their bunker. You have to up your game a bit from now on." Mike pats Jeff's back, and he went outside of the office.

Mike went up again to the rooftop and smoke. He was thinking if he should offer up himself to be taken in the bunker. He is a Doctor that is specialized in Geophysics, and all these while he has been reporting directly to Jason under the credibility of a Geophysicist. He has been giving them updates for the past 2 years since he made the prediction. Yes, he is the scientist who has discovered that the San Andreas Fault going to collapse.
He has never interested in the idea of staying in an underground bunker before, because he knew he better off migrate to a place far away from California if the Fault is going to collapse. He never expects a full-scale apocalypse is going to take place soon. If it is happening... he is going to need a place in that bunker to survive.
It was a finding that happened accidentally. He was obsessed with the research of the earth's core and the relation of the magnetic field that was sustaining the earth. During his research, he playfully said to Jason that he is making research on the Earth's core is mainly to satisfy his observation in predicting how the world's going to end. He always believes that one day, if the world is going to end, it will be something related to the core of the earth itself.
He once said that if the Earth's core cooled down even a little bit, that would cause a density phase change, and when that happens, all the magma inside will find a way to release its huge pressure. The only way of releasing the huge pressure is via the eruption of volcanoes. When Jason heard Mike's theory, he just laughed it off. 'Nothing is going to happen to the Earth's core Mike. That's god's job to keep the Earth's core spinning and stays hot. What we need to do is to protect ourselves from the other human. Weapons.' Jason always emphasized that we will be killed first in the human hand, rather than dying in the mother nature's hand.
"Hah, it looks like my one-time joke is showing its fangs early. I wonder.. I wonder if all these disasters that are going to happen have something to do with the Earth's core..." Mike flicked his wrist and the cigarette's ash flew away.
Mike straightened his shirt and threw away his cigarette bud. "Right, let's go and meet my babies.."
Mike went down from the rooftop by the emergency staircase, he then walked to a door and punch a series of number on the digital door lock.
Inside the USGS seismology department, he has special access to one of the labs. His private lab was built specifically under his description. It is a reward given by Jason for giving the ideas of building a 12 story bunker to survive the disaster. The government makes a lot of profit from the building anyways.
Starting up his supercomputers, Mike dusted the table first before putting his phone on the table in silent mode. He grinned widely and he ran his fingers along the computer's monitors.
"My babies... daddy misses you."
Mike has no other family. He is not married even though he is almost 50 this year. He always said that his computers is his child. His wife is his data, he loves his data so much. Once he starts working on the supercomputers, he pours all of his passion and concentration in his research. He will forget to eat or sleep once he is stuck on a problem. A crazy geophysicist his friends called him.
Finally at 4 am, Mike's hand stopped typing on the keyboard. He lifted his head, and looked up at the huge monitor in front of him.
"I don't believe it..."
