Capítulo 24: 24. The cure for the Emperor

The small harbour was actually filled withs o many people that it clearly made Shu Ya astonished. She looked at the people coming and going and then at Cook Tao.

''Uncle Tao. Why is the fish so expensive?'' Actually, tuna was pricey even in her past world so it must be even more expensive this time.

He patted her head. ''Those fish never stay in one place so it is rare to capture them. Their meat is so soft and at the same time so succulent. It is expensive as it is so rare. Now tell me, how much of the meat do you want to sell?''

She thought about it and looked at him seriously. ''How long will it take us to get to the final harbour?''

Tao smiled at her. ''If the weather keeps helping us, two weeks at least.''

She shook her head. There were no fridges no ice no nothing, two weeks, the meat will go probably bad. ''Sell all. I spent so much money on rice and spices I am almost broke.''

That thought was a fat lie as she still had a lot of money on her, but she chose to act pitiful as she had no idea what she might need it for. Life is unpredictable. Having money is never wrong.

He knew the number of money she spent dew weeks ago so he nodded. ''I will try to get a good price. Do you trust me?''

Shu Ya nodded. ''I do.'' Of course, she did. Who else knew so many traders and had so many connections. She planned to stay with this person in contact.

She took out an envelope and gave it to Mingyu. ''Could you please send this to Lady Hong and Lord Ka? They will wait for my letters. When I get to the north it will be harder to end messages.'' She gave him a few big silver and smiled. ''Better pay well so it definitely arrives.''

Tao nodded. This girl knew how to handle things well. ''Did you send a message to the Bai family? Will someone wait for you?''

She sighed. ''Lord Ka told me they know about my arrival. I have no idea what to think about them. Let's hope the rice I bring will be enough for them to accept me.''

Her hopeless tone made his heart ache. He suddenly made a decision. ''If they really chose to give up on you I will adopt you. I and my wife have no children. I don't mind you know. Having such a cute and smart daughter wouldn't be bad.''

She chuckled and just accepted. ''Then so be it. If I have really no other place to go I will come to you.''

Tao sighed and patted her head. ''I really mean it.''

She smiled at him. ''I know.''

Sometimes not many words are needed when two people understood each other well.

Shu Ya was not interested in leaving the boat. They came late evening and will be leaving early morning. She just went back to her room and sat by the window as usual.

People on the other ship running here and there making her watch in curiosity. On the deck of another ship stood a man and looked towards the sea and recounted something on his fingers.

Suddenly he turned around and saw a small girl staring at him with big curious eyes. At first, both of them froze but then she smiled brightly and bowed. He as well bowed at her and was about to turn around when he saw something on her window peeking out the corner.

He completely froze and then started running making her raise her head and then she almost slapped her self. The plant was peeking out and she just took the pot and hid it under the bed while the other flower that was similarly colourful went on that place.

A knock could be heard on the door and she heard Mingli's voice. ''Miss there is a gentleman that wants to talk to you.''

''Bring him in.'' She stood up and as he entered she curtsied. He bowed and his eyes swiped toward the windmill and he sighed. ''I thought its something I really need.''

She smiled and sat down while her head started counting gold in advance. ''If you tell me who you need it for I might seel it to you.''

He pressed his lips and then dragged stunned Mingli into the room and closed doors. He checked the window as well and then started whispering. ''Emperor got a strange disease and only that plant can save him. You are a little girl but I can see gold in your eyes. How much?''

She sighed. ''I want three things. Once I want my family Bai to get their nobility again. No need for us to go to court again, just nobility is enough for me. Number two I want to have no punishment certificate on my name. And last, if the Emperor gets well, I want him to give me a noble name, my own name. So no one can throw me away again and disrespect as they did to my mom.''

He completely froze. ''Who is your mother?'' Somehow he feared the answer when he heard Bai's family name.

''My mother was Bai Zhenzhen. But that didn't help her to get kicked out of her husband's home, get divorced and pushed to kill herself.'' Shu Ya looked ta him completely emotionless as she sat there almost soullessly. ''All I want is to live comfortably for the rest of my life. I never want to get married in my lifetime. To live as mother did. I am unwilling.''

He gasped as she realized that his breath stocked so long. ''Lady Bai... is dead?''

Shu Ya stood up and took the plant out. ''Take it and save the Emperor. I wanted to heal my body with it, but it's still too small so this plant would kill me now. I can't use it anyway.''

She put the pot into his hands and he shook violently as he saw few stalks of the plant in the pot. Those stalks were something he looked for almost a decade. And the little girl had it.

''Your mother...'' He wanted to say something as his hands shook.

''She is dead. You got what you wanted. Please go now. I am tired.'' She really was.

He just walked out in a daze while his hands held precious herbs carefully. As he was about to leave the ship a man came by and almost knocked the plants out his hands.

he snapped back out and stared at the man with coldness known only by royal guards. The man almost had a heart attack. ''Sorry, it was unintentionally...''

He just smirked. ''Right, unintentionally. If these plants were messed up I would have killed all your family members and anyone related to you, no matter old or young.'' The bloodthirstiness seeped out every pore on his body making everyone on ship freeze and step back away.

He walked to the harbour and didn't even go back to the ship he came from. Soon from nearby garrison a whole bunch of riders started long travel toward the capital in rush.
