After non-stop travelling for a few days, I finally reached Blacksummit town. At first, I couldn't believe my eyes. "Does this even qualify as a town?" I mumbled to myself. I had been all over the country and had seen most of its towns, but the one in front of me looked more like a village- it had a flimsy looking wood barricade, few guards outside, and there were hardly any houses. I had passed a few houses outside the barricade, but they obviously weren't safe as I saw the burnt remains of one not too far from the village. I had no idea why anybody lived here, and why a border town had such a low population. Putting that aside, I stuck my head back inside the carriage I was in to wait until we arrived.
After I entered the town, I went to an inn called 'The Black Cat' and booked a room for a week. As i was sent here by the emperor, I could stay in the nearest noble manor, but I would rather stay in an inn, as it is something I am used to. After depositing my belongings, I walked through town to the Adventurers' Guild; a three story white washed building. Inside was a few tables near the front of the building, a large notice board with various requests, and a few desks with receptionists. As I walked in, the few adventurers at the request board took a double take, before whispering to each other. I knew they were talking about me, but I ignored them and went to the receptionist, asking if they had any requests for me. As I was working at the behest of the Emperor, the harder requests would be given directly to me, making my life a little easier. "W-we have a few requests for gathering monster materials..." the young girl serving me stuttered before handing me 5 different sheets of paper with various monsters written on them. "Do have a dismantler here?" I could skin monsters, but I wasnt skilled enough to get high quality resources from them. Most guild buildings have a resident dismantler to get the most out of monsters. The guild buys monster carcasses whole, dismantles them, and sells the pieces at a higher price. "Yes, we have a master dismantler currently in this town." the girl replied. Pleased, I nodded before making my way out of the guild. If they had a master dismantler, I know that I will get the full value of any monster I bring back. As I was walking through town to the gate, I looked at the requests I was given, and wondered how I could explore the mountain while also completing the requests. I could bring along a resident adventurer to help me navigate, but they would slow me down and distract me. "Manticore investigation, stone deer cull, poison naga subjuga- there's a naga?!" I said in disbelief. 'An adult naga could grow into 30m long beasts that could kill thousands, and they haven't called in the knight force to deal with it?' I thought 'something is definitely strange in this town'. I put the thought to the back of my mind and kept reading. "Elemental wolf subjugation and werewolf subjugation? This town is crazy" I said under my breath. The request said there was only one elemental wolf, but I highly doubt that, and I had never seen of a werewolf before. 'This is going to be an interesting stay, isn't it?' I thought to myself, scowling at the open gate in front of me.
Interesting was an understatement.
