Capítulo 13: The Revelation

Gordon suggested they eat at a restaurant after they left the dress boutique. When they agreed he pulled his cell phone out and called Michael.

Rachel's face blushed red when she realized Gordon was inviting Michael to join them.

Gordon smiled at Charlotte. "You're not the only one who can be a matchmaker " Gordon said.

"You know they're going to pay us back, right?" Charlotte asked.

"I certainly hope so." Gordon said

After dinner, Michael had offered to take Rachel home. Gordon smiled to himself. That was another reason why he'd invited Michael. He wanted time alone with Charlotte.

When they arrived at Charlotte's apartment he followed her upstairs.

"Can I come in for dessert?" He asked shamelessly.

"Of course you can." Charlotte agreed, thinking she'd make a platter of fresh fruit.

Charlotte immediately changed her work clothes. Gordon approached her and said in his most demanding voice, "Take off my suit jacket and tie." He commanded. Charlotte did as she was asked.

Then she pulled some fruit out and began cutting it. Gordon approached her from behind, putting his hands on on her waist. He shoved his face into her hair and breathed in her fresh scent. Then he moved her hair to one side and began kissing and sucking on her neck. He stroked her waist, his intensity growing.

Charlotte dropped the knife and fell back against him. "Ohh! Oh Gordon!" She cried.

He drug his teeth across her shoulder and used his lips to suck hard on her neck. Then his tongue moved in circles against her skin.

She gripped the counter until her knuckles turned white. His hands slid up Her stomach to her chest. He cupped her breasts in his hands. Charlotte's already ragged breathing came faster and deeper. She suddenly spun around and threw herself against his chest.

"Gordon, you are torturing me!" She cried.

He laughed low and soft in her ears. "If you think I'm torturing you now then how will you endure when I take you to bed?" He asked against her ear.

She quickly pulled away and glared at him. "Gordon, you are shameless!" She scolded. She grabbed the platter of fruits and headed towards the sofa.

"How is it that a man who has never had a girlfriend knows how to do the things you do to my body?" Charlotte muttered.

"I'll take that as a compliment." Gordon said.

"Has anyone ever told you that you're awfully arrogant?" She asked.

He joined her on the sofa and looked thoughtful.

"My younger brother has." He said quietly.

"I didn't know you had a younger brother." Charlotte said.

"He passed away five years ago." Gordon said in a distant voice.

Charlotte was stunned.

"Do you want to talk about it?" She asked softly.

He turned to look at her, his eyes cold.

"No, I do not want to talk about it." His voice wasn't just cold, it was harsh.

"I'm sorry." Charlotte apologized, looking away. She was fearful of the intensity of his eyes.

She thought quietly within herself. How was she supposed to get to know this man if he shut her out? Their relationship couldn't be built on physical attraction alone. She needed to break down his walls.

She turned to face him. He sat stiffly, starring straight ahead. He looked a thousand miles away. Without taking time to consider the consequences, she attempted to pull him into her arms. He tensed and tried to pull away at first but she persisted.

"You don't have to say anything, but please let me hold you." She whispered.

Not only did he stop fighting her but he turned into her embrace and threw his arms around her as if she were a life preserver. She held him for a long time, stoking his back and head gently.

After awhile she heard him softly say, "It's my fault."

Charlotte repeated to him a phrase her mother had often said to her and Cora over the years, "I will listen without judgment. Or I'll keep you company in your silence."

He gripped her tightly.

"My brother Albert was a dreamer. He was just out of college and had no idea what to do with his life. My parents were frustrated and weren't getting the results they hoped for. So, they asked me to speak to him. I tried but we were such opposites. I saw things black and white. He saw things in bright colors. We had a huge argument. He jumped in his sports car and tore out onto the road. He never made it home. He crashed and died at the scene. His last words to me were that I was arrogant, and that he couldn't be a perfect son like me. He died feeling alone. At his funeral his girlfriend told us his dream was to be a concert pianist and travel the world. He had been afraid to tell us because he thought father wouldn't agree. But if I had known, I would have supported him. I never got the chance to tell him that." Gordon's last word caught on a suppressed sob.

Charlotte made no comment but held him while he cried. After a long while, she lifted his face and looked into his eyes.

"You've carried guilt for a long time. But it wasn't your fault. It was an accident. A very sad accident. Lots of people argue and come together in agreement later. You would've supported your brother'a dream if he'd shared it with you that day." Charlotte said.

"But I never had the chance to tell him." Gordon said sadly.

"Then...then let's go tell him. Let's go to his grave and you tell him how proud of him you are and how you'd have supported his dream if he were still here." Charlotte said.

"You mean you'd come with me?" He asked.

"If you want me to. If not this time I hope you'll take me one day. If I'm your woman I should know your family right?" Charlotte asked.

Gordon wrapped his arms around her and gave her a hard kiss. In his heart he decided right then that he would never let this woman go.
