"Spells to learn? Yes please!" I couldn't help but yell out loud.

One spell to heal myself, an armor spell, a spell to trap my enemies, and lastly a spell that will let me enchant my weapons to deal more damage. I was considering going for just a ranged spell but I right now I was at least confident in hitting something with my bow. After choosing my spells it was like I had been studying these spells for years. Each spell contained specific runes arranged in a geometrical pattern. The lower level the spell, the simpler the pattern. I knew exactly how to cast these spells; I could feel with absolute certainty that I only had to manipulate my mana into the required pattern and push the pattern with intent towards my target. Damn! If I knew it was going to be like this I would have chosen a ranged spell instead, apparently targeting wasn't an issue for a mage as long as he could see what he wanted to hit.
I still wouldn't learn fire just yet, even though it was tempting. I almost did at first, but then I reminded myself that I was inside a forest. I really didn't want to accidentally set the forest on fire or burn myself alive. Just didn't seem like a wise choice at the time. Even though I could have been firing arrows made from light, or wind needles at my foes, I was still happy with my choices. I tried to keep in mind it was always nice to have a backup in case you ran out of mana.
I looked down at my new grimoire and noticed that chain had appeared on it, and it was looped around my belt. Standing up I noticed that the chain lengthened or shortened depending on where I held the book. I decided to drop the book to see what happened, the chain kept shortening, controlling the book the entire time until the book nestled neatly over my left hip. I felt that slight sensation in my mind from the book, it wasn't happy that I tried to drop it. What? I just aggravated a book... It did teach me some spells so I guessed I should be nicer to it from now on. I grabbed the book and sent what I thought was the equivalent of a mental apology to it, its mental grumblings stopped. I placed my hand on the latch and the book popped open. On the first page was my name in large flowing script. The next 4 pages contained the 4 spells I just learned; each spell filled with notes as if I spent years learning them. The next visible page had a greyish tinge to it obscuring writing that could barely be seen underneath. I tried to flip the page, but the page refused to move, it was like the rest of the book was securely glued together. 'weird' I thought to myself.
Stretching out my sore muscles, I looked up. It seemed to still be just past midday. I should still have 5 or 6 hours left of daylight; I think it's time to go hunting with my new spells! I checked my boots once again, planning on putting them on either way, but was relieved to find them dry. Finally, fully dressed and dry again I re-equipped my quiver, daggers, sword, and bow. Time to go hunting!
Making sure that the fire wouldn't get out of control, I left the clearing and entered the now fully blooming forest.
It wasn't long after entering the trees that I came across a black fox. It was slowly prowling through bushes about 15 yards in front of me. It looked bigger than the last one I killed, but let's see what my new magic could do. I nocked a arrow, and cast Ice Imbue on the arrow. The arrow took on light blueish tint to it and was giving off a slight chill to the air around it. Then I cast Tangle, my mana quickly dropped by 50 points, but after witnessing what it did to the fox the cost was worth it. Vines sprouted from the ground, and before the fox could react they quickly bound it, not allowing it to move.
With a grin spreading across my face, I aimed the arrow and released. Direct hit! I quickly Imbued another arrow and fired, another hit. I quickly fired another 4 arrows before the fox stopped moving, just in time because the vines withered away within seconds after I finished off the fox.
*Ding* <You have slain a Black Fox, 60 experience gained>
*Ding* <Archery Skill has leveled>
Magic is going to make this so much easier! But 6 arrows for one little fox, I would really need to learn a higher damage spell the next chance I got. Until then I will have to try and aim for critical hits. I was down by 80 mana, and that was only because I had imbued 2 of the arrows. I retrieved my arrows and stashed the black fox in my inventory. It only took me a right over 5 minutes to refill my mana, then I set off further into the woods.
