Capítulo 24: Chapter 23 - Returning to nothing
The young man from the Uchiha clan felt that Ernie was different. He's never seen eyes that look like that, nor has he met any ninja outside of the Senju clan that could keep up with him.
Six other members of the Uchiha clan appeared behind the young man, while the Itaku clan were slowly recovering.
"I am Izuna Uchiha, son of Tajima Uchiha."
Izuna said cooly.
"I am Ernie."
With the arrival of the Uchiha clan and them assisting the Itaku clan, Ernie knew there was no way they'd be able to survive this. The best thing to do was retreat in hopes of fighting for another day.
If they Uchiha clan didn't arrive, then everything would have went as planned.
"I've never met someone other than a few who were able to keep up with me, pretty impressive."
Izuna said.
A second later, his body blickered.
Ernie's senses were heightened and although Izuna was moving swiftly, he could still see him.
As Izuna appeared beside Ernie, Ernie ducked Izuna's sword slash. Using Ice Sword a long blade of ice materialized in Ernie's hands.
He tried to cut Izuna across the chest, but Izuna flipped backwards.
From the corner of his eye, he could see the other Uchiha members forming different hand signs. He knew this wasn't a good sign.
With one hand Ernie created a few ice needles and launched them towards the six uchiha. Naturally they dodged, but it brought Ernie some time.
Seeing Ernie was distracted, Izuna continued to assault him.
"Attacking someone when they are focused on another thing, don't you find this shameless?"
Ernie asked as he slammed his palm to the ground and a wall of ice blocked Izuna's path.
"I do not need help dealing with you."
Izuna told Ernie in an arrogant tone.
Looking over his shoulder, Ernie saw all the other Sodachi members. Their wounds finally caught up to them, as some of them could no longer find the strength to wield their weapons.
It wasn't like Ernie did not expect this as they were going against bigger numbers, but he had hoped things would have went smoother.
"Retreat!"
Ernie shouted.
Yui grabbed Aito by the arm trying to hold him back. He had lost his father in this battle and the person who slayed Meimu was standing right before him. How could he possibly sit still?
"Another day Aito! Another day!"
Yui said loudly.
Aito gritted his teeth as he held back his tears.
"Retreat!"
Hearing the voice of Aito all the Sodachi clan members quickly reacted.
At the same time six giant fireballs flew towards their group.
"You aren't going anywhere!"
Izuna's cold voice rang out in Ernie's ear.
"Just try to stop me!"
Ernie replied back.
Ernie and Izuna both started to clash once more, while some of the elders who were still capable of moving dealt with the six giant fireballs.
"We'll hold them back! You guys go!"
One of the elders shouted.
As Ernie and the elders were facing off against the Uchiha clan, the rest of the Sodachi clan members retreated. Those who were a safe distance away from all the fighting got the news of what happened and turned around to go back to their clan home.
Hina and Himari were going to join Ernie, but they felt they wouldn't be able to do anything right now. Ernie had that jutsu to teleport himself a great distance away, so the girls knew he'd be alright.
Soon the elders that stayed back with Ernie started to fall one by one, leaving Ernie to handle seven Uchiha members. As he swiftly scanned the area, he noticed the Itaku clan members were gone.
He didn't see them move in the direction the Sodachi clan members fled in.
"Just accept your fate!"
Izuna said as three fire snake coiled themselves around Ernie.
Izuna had him captured, and there was no escape. Except, when he looked closer, he noticed it wasn't Ernie but a small leaf frozen solid. He was stunned that his fire couldn't even melt the leaf.
Seeing that Ernie was no longer around, Izuna looked off into the distance.
"Should we chase?"
One of the Uchiha clan members asked.
"No. We have more urgent matters to attend to. My brothers should be returning from battle soon, I want to be there when they return."
Izuna said.
Ernie caught up with the rest of the Sodachi clan, he could see they were saddened by the death of their clan leader as well as their family members. In this battle, they lost too many.
They had a fighting force of twelve, but only four managed to make it out alive. For them, this loss was more painful than them not completing their goal.
Looking around, Ernie spotted Hina and Himari. He also saw the numbers of the Sodachi clan, there were less than twenty remaining. Most women and young children with a few old, others young adults or middle aged.
Still, their clan could continue on.
"Was it worth it?"
Hina asked Ernie as he walked by her side.
Ernie couldn't even answer her, he just shook his head.
"War is dangerous and we knew the cost. Still, we gained valuable experience."
Himari said softly.
She really wanted to say she was happy the three of them made it out alive, but that would be disrespectful to the Sodachi clansmen.
Ernie watched Aito and Yui silently as they continued their journey back to the Sodachi clan.
The two of them loss someone who they were attached to, he hoped that they would be able to grow from this loss and be able to move forward. If not and they thought about getting revenge in a few days time, things would be hopeless for them.
As the group approached the village where the Sodachi clan lived, they saw the village burning.
Seeing this sight, some of the clan members lost it and cried.
Aito clenched his fist and looked away.
Ernie even saw Yui break down and cry.
A clan without a home wasn't much of a clan. They all were tired and needed a place to rest, but now they couldn't even do that.
Ernie sighed and walked towards Aito.
Hina grabbed his hand to stop him.
Turning around, Ernie gave her a soft smile causing her to release her grip on him.
After using his Reitgan, Ernie was actually tired, he used more chakra than he's ever used before. Granted, his teleportation technique used less chakra due to there being a shorter distance and less amount of people with him, but he was still exhausted.
As he approached Aito, Aito looked over at him.
Dryly laughing, Aito said, "Pitiful aren't we?"
"No. We were just outmatched is all, but as long as you have your life you can live to see another day. Doesn't matter how many times you lose, you always have another chance for victory if your survive."
Ernie told him.
"What do you expect us to do now? Look around, we might have dominated this area before, but now that isn't the case. I can count on one hand how many ninja we have that can actually fight. What is that going to do us?"
"Then don't fight. You're still young, and your father's son. You might not see it, but your entire clan is watching you, waiting for your orders."
Aito looked up at the sky.
"I don't believe i'm capable of leading. In the past, I thought so, but now… you've seen what happened when my father died. I rushed straight into the enemy without thinking, if my clansmen followed me I fear I wouldn't even have a clan. I'm just grateful you were there to help me out or else I would have died along with my father."
Aito said.
"Believe in yourself. If you don't, who will?"
Ernie said as he looked at the Sodachi village that was on fire.
"Come with me, you've seen where I plan on settling down. I'm sure you already have some ideas in your head, but i'm telling you, you can join me there."
"And join your clan?"
Aito asked.
Ernie shook his head.
"No. I want something even greater. I have a dream of creating a village where people can come and live. It's not just one clan, it's many clans all living together in harmony. Protecting the village from harm, and taking those in who wish to see a better life."
Ernie told Aito.
Aito was silent.
"There are going to be changes happening in this area soon, and we need to be ready Aito. You can't protect your loved ones alone, and I can't protect mines. However, working together it may be possible. What do you say, want to work together?"
