Capítulo 121: The Moonlight Cult, the true mastermind?
"Lancelot, what happened?"
Alexander broke the door open as he charged into the room, only to see four charred corpses lying on the ground.
Despite being surprised, Alexander understood the situation when he sensed the chilling breeze from the opened window and the lethal weapons the assassins were holding in their hands.
"I was ambushed by members of the black cult, to make matters worse, they were definitely among the most inexperienced and yet their leader was already capable of surviving the first trap I prepared in advance."
Lancelot might be sounding cocky to others, but Alexander understood that Lancelot's strength right now was comparable to the demon level geniuses and for him to make such a statement, it could only mean that the true opponents this time weren't to be underestimated.
Even if Lancelot didn't set up the best defensive measures he could have taken, the strength of his traps should have been enough to protect him from any of the weaker cultivators in this competition.
This could only mean that the cultivators from the evil forces this time have sent out their elites and the strength of the few leaders who are truly in power, would most likely be in the demon level tier genius as well.
"It seems that we would have to fortify our defenses somehow, if only we had an array master on our side right now."
Alexander sighed at this thought when he realised that there were no array masters on their side. If there was one, the array master would be able to put up defences or alarm arrays that would warn them of any intruders, unless one of the leaders made a move himself which was quite unlikely.
No one had to explain this, but it was pretty clear that the leaders were going to devote their attention and efforts towards the Tiger Tier cultivation forces which were the greatest threat to them right now.
As for the Nirvana Sect, Alexander and Lancelot could only warn the rest about the imminent danger and that they should all avoid leaving the fortress territory in case their enemies have set up an ambush location.
"I guess all we can do now is stay within the fortress territory."
Lancelot decided as we proposed for a meeting tomorrow which Alexander agreed on without hesitation.
Just like this, the supposedly peaceful night ended up being bloodshed with all the cultivation forces being in shock when they woke up.
Initially, everyone thought that only the Wolf Tier cultivation forces were attacked whereas the Sheep Tier cultivation forces were too weak to attract any attention, but the shocking piece of news alarmed everyone in the afternoon when everyone was busy competing for cultivation resources and fighting over the newly discovered fortress.
The fortress was discovered by a Sheep Tier cultivation force which willingly sold this piece of information for some cultivation resources, only for another Tiger Tier cultivation force to come across the fortress one hour after the previous cultivation force occupied it.
The disturbance caused by the large scale of their battle attracted the other cultivation forces which led to the war which raged on for a few hours, but before the grand war ended, one of the cult members from one of the evil forces entered the battlefield.
Not to compete for the fortress, but just for one purpose.
"Are you sure you want to fight with us over this?"
Grace held her sword in hand and questioned the man who was standing opposite to him.
The aura of a Martial Lord was being emitted from Grace, but her opponent's aura wasn't any weaker.
If it was only this Martial Lord, she had no reason to be afraid, but she was up against two other opponents at the same time as well.
Ethan the number one disciple of the Blossom Valley and Fred who was the number one disciple of the Crimson Sect were the two other opponents she had to face besides Craze who has stepped into the Martial Lord realm over the past month, just like her.
"You may be able to hold me off, but the attacking prowess of the Crimson Sect and the charming means of the Blossom Valley would be enough to handle you in that case.
"Not to mention that your other juniors, while strong, won't be enough to hold us off at all. I'm giving you a chance right now, get your juniors and yourself to retreat from this place immediately before I turn nasty."
Craze proposed as magic elemental energy gathered around his palm. For a mage of his level, casting magic with the staff wasn't a must anymore, at the very most, the effects of the staff was to strengthen his ability power with the casted magic.
Even still, the materials needed to craft a magic staff were much more precious than the materials needed for a sword, spear or any other weapon of the same rarity or tier.
But in comparison, the magic amplification provided by a magic staff and the destructive power of a mage of the same tier was much more destructive than that of any other cultivator around the same cultivation realm.
If Grace wasn't someone with combat strength above Craze by a large margin, the fact that he's a mage would have already ended the battle, but even so, she was still at a disadvantage herself in terms of numbers.
"Heaven Cross!"
Making the first move, Grace leapt backwards and slashed diagonally to form an energy cross which pierced through the air, sucking in the nearby air before releasing an energy beam which caught everyone off guard.
Everyone was too used to a sword attack making its way to the final destination, a sword attack stopping mid-air to generate energy and release a destructive attack was unheard of, to begin with, in fact, no one present knew it was possible.
"You bitch!"
Craze who was pissed off by this unexpected turn of events from Grace's action was enraged, gathering fire energy in his right palm and ice energy in his left palm, he merged them together into a ball of flame and ice.
The fire and ice elements were constantly competing against each other to neutralise the other element, but neither of them succeeded which resulted in the piled-up energy neutralising the beam, in the end, neither side gaining an advantage over the other.
"Stop fighting will ya?"
Suddenly, a man descended from above and swung his sword down, splitting the collision between their attacks without any difficulty as he remained levitating in the air.
Even without realising his aura, they were already sensing danger from that man, danger strong enough to threaten their lives.
"Who are you?"
"What the hell do you think you're doing!"
Both sides weren't satisfied with the way the outsider was interrupting the battle but had no choice besides remaining passive and seeing what he had to say.
They didn't recognise this man at all despite being a demon tier genius and for him to be strong enough to suppress them without even trying to, it could only mean one thing, this mysterious man might be the strongest in this entire competition.
"It's nothing much, I'm just here to let all of you know that the Moonlight Cult has taken the lives of everyone from eight Wolf Tier cultivation forces and the Animal Haven, one of the Tiger Tier cultivation forces."
"What did you just say?"
Grace was the first to react, but by the time she turned towards the man, she realised that he had already left. But on the ground was the token of all eight leaders from these cultivation forces, tied to each of these tokens were the tokens of the other members.
"Craze, I suggest that you leave right now since the Paladin Haven has already occupied this place, if you still insist on a fight, then those members from the Moonlight Cult would be able to take us out after both sides are exhausted."
Craze clenched his fist but still turned around to leave with Ethan and Fred following behind him while the rest caught up after Grace called for her own members to stop.
"That's enough, let them leave."
"Because four fortresses have been occupied, the first hidden rule will activate from now on!"
