One month later,
The opening of the store was a huge success and soon Amy and Jessica established their own fashion brand named SJ Designs which was also a huge success.
Jessica was seated in her new office as she worked on her designs. She was excepted to organize a fashion show soon. She was so concentrated on her work that the ringtone of her phone bought her back to reality.
She looked at the contact. It was from Amy. She was now her personal assistant and took care of all the office work for Jessica. Jessica picked up the call the cheerful voice of Amy was heard from the other end. "Hey! Where are you?" Amy asked.
"I am not your friend. we are still at work dear." Jessica tried to tease Amy as she was very strict with these things. She thought it was not professional to mix work and personal life.
"Excuse me! Just look at the time it is lunchtime. Should you not prepare a feast for your so-called bestie?" Amy said. This so-called bestie was no one but Steve. The relationship between them had been good in the past month.
"Of course, I will prepare it in a minute. Thanks for the reminder." Jessica chuckled as some of the memories flooded her mind.
A month ago they were leaving the Fang Mansion and Steve proposed that Jessica be friends and try to understand each other as they had never met before. She had agreed and in just a few days they developed a relationship that could not be just given the name of a friend. She used to share her smiles and tears with him. They were close and would often meet up. She was now sure and ready to spend her life with him. She saw his qualities and was sure he would be a great partner.
She smiled at her own thoughts and got up. Her office had an attached compartment. This compartment was enough for a person to live comfortably. It had a cozy bedroom, a bathroom, a spacy living room, and also a kitchen.
Jessica happily walked to the kitchen and laid down the ingredients. She washed the veggies and set to work to cook a heart-warming dish for her 'bestie.
After an hour, Jessica was on her way to Steve's company. Now the Han corporation was also a part of Smith's business. It had progressed well.
On reaching the company she was escorted to Steve's office as all employees were well aware of her being their future madam. She was informed that she had to wait for a while as Steve was in a meeting which may take time. She requested the staff to not inform him of her presence as it was a surprise.
Jessica happily walked into the office exploring it thoroughly. The theme was, as usual, a combination of black and white. The room gave a majestic aura with the wooden table in the center and a pair of a chair with a table in between, facing the window. There were also two sofas with a coffee table next to the door. The theme of the furniture was beige. It was well-matched and gave a cozy vibe.
She looked at the walls which were filled with antique pieces when her eyes fell on an old frame. It had a dark background with some English letters written on it in gold.
'A slumber did my spirit seal-
I had no human fears.
She seemed a thing that could not feel
the touch of earthly years…..'
On reading the first few lines she felt she had read this poem and it instantly clicked with her that it was a poem by William Wordsworth. 'Maybe Steve likes his poems…..' She thought to herself as she turned to the coffee table next to the door. that very instant, the door flew open and an angry Steve walked inside the office.
Jessica was sure that Steve was very angry and was terrified seeing him burst like a volcano. She stood rooted in her place as she looked at his actions. She had never seen him so angry.
Suddenly, Steve turned to Jessica and started shouting at her, "Why are you here? Do you want to go somewhere? You want me to accompany you, as a friend. Jessica we are going to get married. You are my fiance, not a friend. At least treat me like one. I am just fed up with you and your tantrums. Just go out from here."
His words shocked her. Tears rolled down her cheeks as she felt pain in her chest. She walked out of the room without uttering a word slamming the door behind her.
In the car, she could no longer hide her tears and she cried hard burying her face in her hands.
'Am I so bad? Did I not treat him well? Do I not deserve him? What is that I did wrong?' Her head was still ringing with the words said by Steve. His words had bought her pain and she could feel the chill of pain deep inside her bones.
