Carson shouldn't have believed a word coming out of Ivy's mouth but he did because it explained a lot. In fact, it was the only explanation that did make sense. That Sherlock Holmes quote had been right after all.
He really should have been angrier that she had been mooching off of him ever since the sixth grade but honestly? There was a good chance he would have done the same thing in her shoes.
How horrible the world must seem to her, having to hear every twisted thought the world had to offer. All the pettiness, lewdness, and mind-numbingly mundane. If he had to deal with all of that he probably would have gone completely insane years ago. And she had been handling it all alone her entire life.
Ivy claimed that she wanted to be his friend because he was different from the masses. It was quite disparaging to humanity in general but in her own way she was giving the highest compliment she could. Maybe that was why he couldn't truly be mad.
