Amy was quite tired when she reached home. She dragged the basket of fruits and vegetables with heavy steps. She dropped them near the door and leaned against it. Then she pulled out a key and unbolted the door. To her surprise, the living room was dimly lit. On the center table was a board with words written on it, "Happy Birthday, Mommy!"
A faints smile played on her lips as she let go of the basket and tossed her handbag on the sofa. She called out softly, "Miracle. Are you there?"
Suddenly, a few voices blurted out from behind her, "Happy Birthday to you! Happy Birthday to you! Happy Birthday to dear Mommy! Happy Birthday to you!"
She slowly turned towards the voice and saw her crinkly, old Grandma, accompanied by Miracle. Ah! There was an unwanted guest in there! She tried hard not to roll her eyes. D.K., in his usual, jumper and jeans was the unwanted guest here. Seems like, the bastard had conquered her Grandma.
She snapped out of her train of thoughts when she felt a fuzzy entity snuggling close to her thighs. She glanced down and saw Miracle hugging her legs, "Welcome home, Mommy! Happy Birthday!"
Amy squatted down and pulled Miracle in her lap, "Thank you, baby. How have you been?"
"I am fine, Mommy. How are you?"
"Fine. Fine", saying so, Amy squinted at D.K.
He smiled back secretly, his eyes saying, "You can't hide forever from me."
"Mommy", Miracle pulled back and smiled brightly at her, "Let's cut your birthday cake."
"Okay", Amy smiled back, "Let's go!"
Miracle pulled her through the corridor and stood near the table. Amy went around and hugged her Grandma with tears in her eyes, "Granny."
"Amy", Grandma spoke in a hoarse voice, "Dear, how have you been? I see the baby has grown up as well."
"Yes", Amy rubbed Miracle's head.
"D", Grandma turned to face D.K., "It seems that you have forgotten about me as well."
"No, it's not like what you think it is", D.K. came forward with a smile as he shoved his hands inside his pocket.
"Then?" Grandma spoke slowly, enunciating every word, "What is it?"
"We have been very busy", he spoke with a smile and then glanced at Amy, "Right, Amy?"
"Yeah", Amy nodded as Grandma turned towards her, "Very busy. Very, very busy."
"Alright", Miracle interrupted, "Let's cut the cake, okay?"
"Sure", Amy led her to the table where a cake was placed, the bulb above illuminated the whipped cream on it with a golden light. On it were the words, "Happy Birthday, Amy", written on it. The candles 27 were brightly illuminated.
"Wow", Amy whispered.
"Do you like it?" Miracle asked.
"Very", Amy nodded.
"Dad made it."
The smile on Amy's face froze, "Dad?"
"Yeah, Dad", Miracle smiled and pointed at D.K.
Amy's mouth hung open. How did she know? Her eyes flickered between Miracle and D.K. as her mouth hung open. Well, should have been cautious when he saw D.K. along with Grandma.
"Mommy?" Miracle shook her hand, "Are you okay?"
"Yeah, I am fine", Amy nodded.
"What are you waiting for? Just cut the cake", Grandma spoke slowly.
~Chapter 117~
"The cake is ready!" Eddie spoke with excitement, "I can smell it in the air."
"Yeah, of course", Alice's illuminated face came into view as she wheeled the trolley rack along the way, "It's ready."
"Mm", Jake sniffed the air and leaned towards Alice, "Smells good. Can I have some?"
"Eww", Alice pushed him away, "Gross."
