Jun Yang was thankful that it was dark inside the viewing hall or else Feng Qi would have noticed how red his face was. His heart thumped and blood rushed to his cheeks when Jun Yang considered the possibility of Feng Qi leaning in to kiss him, replicating the action of the couple two seats behind them.
He imagined Feng Qi's powerful arm reaching across the seat and landing on his shoulder before pulling himself forward towards him, Feng Qi would look into his eyes and Jun Yang could not help but wonder what kind of kisser Feng Qi was. Would it be a light peck on the lips or a passionate smooch?
Jun Yang shook his head rapidly, trying to shake away the images that were forming in his mind. However, the more he tried to do that, the further his mind went out of control.
There were fingers crawling through hairs, hands locking and body interlocking. 'What am I thinking?! Stop! Stop! Abort! Kyaaaa!'
Feng Qi noticed how strangely the young man next to him was acting. He leaned over and used his shoulder to nudge Jun Yang out of concern.
Jun Yang froze in his seat immediately. Feng Qi squeezed Jun Yang's hand twice for support and leaned back to his side of the seat after he confirmed Jun Yang was alright. However, Jun Yang was not paying him any attention. When Feng Qi leaned in earlier, Jun Yang's breath arrested and the world around him froze.
'Is what I'm imagining coming true?' Jun Yang thought. Then another question quickly followed, 'If he really leans in, should I shove him away or just allow him… to do it?'
Before he could come up with a clear answer, Jun Yang noticed Feng Qi had already leaned back. He sighed silently in relief to himself but at the same time, a part of his heart felt something that was akin to regret and disappointment. But of course, Jun Yang would never admit that, not even to himself.
The rest of the movie flew by in a hurry and Jun Yang could honestly say he had no idea what the movie was about. This was because he was too focused on wondering whether Feng Qi would make a move.
When the ending credit rolled up on screen, Jun Yang sighed audibly in relief like a huge boulder had been taken off his shoulders.
As the lights came back on and people started to vacate their seats and filed out, Feng Qi turned and noticed the sigh that escaped Jun Yang's lips. The young man looked like he had just survived the biggest and hardest ordeal of his life. Feng Qi leaned into Jun Yang's ears to whisper, "I didn't know you'd be so nervous just sitting next to me in the dark, that's so cute."
The heart racing that Jun Yang felt earlier returned and to stop Feng Qi from noticing how flustered he made him feel, Jun Yang leaped up from the seat and said, "Let's go since the movie is already over. I don't have all day and I want to go home."
Jun Yang did not mean it that way but when he heard what he said, it sounded like a whine.
Since they were still holding hands, when Jun Yang jumped up from his seat, he pulled Feng Qi up with him. Hearing Jun Yang's request, Feng Qi smiled with the intention to pamper. "Of course, anything for my sweet boyfriend."
Jun Yang turned his head away from Feng Qi, flung the man's hand off and strode towards the exit. Seeing this, Feng Qi chuckled and he ran to catch up to Jun Yang.
Outside the cinema, Feng Qi caught up to Jun Yang and fell into an even footstep beside him. After they strode in silence for a few minutes, Feng Qi suddenly said, "Thank you for coming on this date with me, Jun Yang. I enjoyed it a lot. You've made my day"
There was no teasing or levity in his voice, Feng Qi sounded serious and sincere. It touched Jun Yang's heart. To think that a last minute decision that he did had made someone's day, he was glad. "You're welcome. I had fun too."
"In that case, we should make this a more constant occurrence." Feng Qi returned to his original self, already asking for a second date.
Jun Yang kept his mouth zipped. He did not answer Feng Qi but internally, when he thought about it, he realized it was not really that bad of an idea. Eventually, they parted at the mall entrance and they went their separate ways. The date was a success.
…
Things slowly returned to normal at Xing Ming Academy. The rumours died down after a while. There were several main reasons for that. For one, one of the main characters, Feng Qi returned to his habit of skipping school so with his presence so lacking, people soon forgot about the rumour he started.
For another, rumours had a really high turn-over rate at a school. They came and went like the rising and falling of the tides. Soon, another more interesting and fresh hearsay would appear to overwhelm the over that preceded it. A rumour of another class couple popped up and it took away people's interest from the love triangle between Feng Qi, Jun Yang and Pei Ling.

The day was winding down. It was already the last class of the day. This was one of the rare days where Feng Qi had decided to show up for class. He sat at the last row with the appearance that he was completely spaced out.
The teacher was at the front of the classroom, ending his lecture. Today's class was about the play, Fences, written by August Wilson. It was a play focused on the family dynamic and cross-generational impact and influence.
Mr. Sam closed the textbook. Then, he turned to the class and said, "Now, we're going to talk about the assignment that is related to the play that we've just studied."
There was a barely muffled groan that travelled through the class.
