Act 1 - Scene 1
INT. SCHOOL CLASSROOM - DAY
A small room, with only enough place for about 20 people. The morning light Illuminates the words written on the chalkboard and it's creases that show the lack of proper care. The tables and chairs are covered in drawings and scratches, which gives off a vintage feeling.
The BELL rings.
Luzy lies on the table as Eve walks up to her.
LUZY
(groans)
Ugh... I can't do this anymore, go on without me.
EVE
It's only the first day, can you not be so dramatic?
LUZY
Shut up! What kind of demon holds a proper lecture at the first day?
EVE
You're not in kindergarten anymore, deal with it. And the book he introduced is great.
LUZY
What's great about the SORROWS OF YOUNG WERTHER? I've read it in the eight grade and in the tenth. The main character is stupid.
EVE
What? But Werther is the selling point, oh you have no idea, do you? You should really give it a try again and while you are at it, read EMILIA GALOTTI by Lessing too. Two beautiful stories told from different perspectives, one is about a man whose love goes unrequited and the other about a girl who doesn't requite a love. Just thinking about it makes me want to read it again.
LUZY
Hey, wait a moment, why is everything about unreciprocated love? Are you dissatisfied with me or what?
EVE
Well, love is not the primary factor in those dramas, sure they play a major role, however, there's a lot about politics and worldly views too. For example in The Sorrow of young Werther, he has to deal with being an outcast of society, not fitting into any part of the hierarchy and-
LUZY
Enough, my brain doesn't have enough memory space to talk about theatres right now. Come back after the update.
EVE
You are in for a tough time then. Don't forget the task that he has given us.
LUZY
uhh, which task?
EVE
Are you kidding me?
LUZY
Calm down, you know that I only took this elective course, because you told me to.
EVE
Did I tell you, I can't remember. I could have sworn you where just scared to be alone this semester so you chose it.
LUZY
Whatever, just tell me what our task is.
EVE
he told us to get in groups of three and choose a drama that we want to work with, for the next few weeks.
LUZY
uhh, really?
EVE
Yep.
LUZY
No, but I don't want to- wait.
Lucy points at Eve and then herself.
LUZY (CONT'D)
one,two,-
EVE
yes, we are missing one.
LUZY
What? Let's go ask someone quickly, come on, move it!
EVE
Everybody is already gone.
LUZY
Goddamnit, it's all your fault. Why did you have to talk so much?
EVE
Huh? Shut up for a second. If you had listened in the first place, we wouldn't be here right now. Since when did you care about the points anyways?
LUZY
I don't really, but what about you?
EVE
I'll manage. I think.
LUCY
Still, wouldn't it look bad if we didn't even do the first task?
EVE
I think it's okay, worst case scenario, we can just work alone.
LUZY
No, leave it to me, I will find someone one we can work with, just where do I look?
Suddenly heavy, fast-paced footsteps cause the floor to vibrate. The door to the classroom gets opened, and reveals CAEL.
CAEL is around 19 years old, with dark circles below his eyes. Unkempt hair and fashionable clothes gives him a wild look.
CAEL
Am I late?
Silence sweeps over the classroom.
LUZY
Depends, what where you expecting?
CAEL
Isn't this the classroom for the "Appreciation of Classics"?
LUZY
If it's that, then you're more than late. The lecture just ended some minutes ago.
CAEL
Ah, Shit, how do they expect us to find anything if this place is so big?
LUZY
So you also have "Appreciation of the Classics" as an elective course?
CAEL
Yes, you guys too?
Lucy looks at Eve.
LUCY
Hey, Eve, I think I found someone.
EVE
wait, him? I don't thinks that's such a good idea, maybe we should reconsider-
LUZY
Hey you, what's your name, why don't you come over here.
EVE
Okay.
