Capítulo 2: The Quiet Lover
These 'events' somehow reminds me of a story about how a girl who's been hopelessly in love with her classmate and willingly to sacrifice everything for this so-called-true-love.
A girl with no self –esteem named Sophie; came to a liking with a hot-shot, straight A's student; Pierre. It all begins when Pierre; the guy who has been popular with the girls in school and has been a 'clean record' student to the school; unexpectedly became a best friend to the most unlikely person in school; Ron.
Ron has been holding the record for the worst student in school since he's been skipping classes, getting into fight now and then; besides smoking in school.
Their friendship are as harmless and innocent as anyone else's at first but turn the other way when one of Ron's friends make Pierre took a bet to woo Sophie in the name of their friendship; Ron was entirely against it as he knew what Pierre was like. Pierre has never been interested in any girls or even trying to woo them. Only the girls are always ended up having a crush on him.
"I don't like it, Jinni. I don't think it's a good idea." Ron shot a sharp glare at Jinni who pops up the bet game in the first place.
"Don't look at me as if I just killed someone, Ron. I think Pierre can make his own decision in this one." Jinni put his hands out as glance at Pierre with a smirk.
"A bet… it does sound tempting; I've never done anything like that before."
"Pierre." Ron pats Pierre on his shoulder; concerns in his voice.
"Don't worry; I won't go too far. Besides, I know the risk if I do." Pierre smiles at his friend's words.
"So, do we have a deal?" Jinni offered a hand shake to seal the deal.
"Sure do… I'll make sure she'll be head over heels on me before the end of the month."
"Then, I'll have to prepare the reward from now…" A smirk escape Jin as a Ron is still unsatisfied with his best friend's ruthless decision.
"Seriously Pierre, a bet to woo a girl? You aren't that low; you know?" Ron finally spoke as they both enter the school hall; he pats on his shoulder; concerns in Ron's voice.
"Relax…" Pierre was sure Ron wasn't satisfied with his answer as he remains his silence.
"Don't worry; I won't go too far. Besides, I know the risk." Pierre smiles at his friend's words.
"Suit yourself, Pierre. i just want you to be careful on what you're planning on doing next; it might hurt your clean reputation more than you imagined."
"Don't worry too much, Ron. Everything's going to be fine, don't you have any fate on my flirting skills?"
"How can i believe in your flirting skills when the only thing you've been flirting with all these times were books?" Ron smirks as he added some speeds on his footsteps.
"Hey!" Ron immediately runs off as if being chased by Pierre.
"You scum…" instead of chasing him; Pierre slows down as pulling out his phone from his pockets with a smirk.
"Mom…" The sile fades when guilty was felt as he saw his mother's picture on his phone's lock screen.
Next morning, as planned; Pierre tries to approach Sophie as soon as possible. He even asks Ron's help earlier for Sophie's personal info; even thou he had been refused by him earlier.
According to Ron's informer; Sophie was actually really talkative when she first enter high school but suddenly became quite right after she had a long leave ;6 months later.
"Quite? You mean less talkative?" Ron interrupts Benny's words.
"Nope, quite; as mute quite." Benny's words stunned Ron.
"Excuse me? What does that supposed to mean?" Pierre didn't really get it; a sigh left Benny before he continues.
"Later; the teachers have been inform by her guardian that Sophie's tongue was infected by some kind of disease and needed to be cut off immediately; due to health reason."
"What? So now, she's absolutely mute?"
"Well, not fully mute that is; technically, she still has her voice but have difficulty in speech due to her tongue condition…" Pierre looks deep in thought since he heard about Sophie's real condition.
"Looks like Jinni was just playing with you, Pierre. He knew about Sophie's real condition but still makes her the target."
"So he knew about Sophie's being mute?" Benny nods with a smirk; his words seem to annoy Ron more than it does to Pierre.
"So, are you still going to do it? Even after what you find out about Sophie?"
"Are you kidding me? Of course he…"
"Sophie's…" Pierre cut on his best friend's words.
"Eh?"
"Sophie's still a human, right? No matter if she was normal, mute, blind, or even paralyze; she's still a human, right?"
"Yes… of course she is; but what does…"
"Then, she deserves to fell in love… even if it's just a game. She deserves it more."
"Pierre; you know it's just a bet right?" Ron seems worried with his friend's sudden reaction.
The only thing they didn't know at that moment was; they've been watch by someone.
"So, he's still going to accept the bet?" Jinni smirk as he got the info from his fellow friend; Liam.
"I guess so… it does sounds like it. So…what should we do now, Jin? Do I need to follow them again; or do something this time?" Liam waits with expectant.
"No need… I really want to know what's his first step to get through that ill-luck girl now; since he's being confident with it."
"So, what's your plan for now?" Ron placed a soda canned drink in front of his friend; Pierre looks quite down since meeting Benny earlier.
"I don't… eh? Soda?" For a second; there's glimpsed in his eyes before he suddenly rises from the canteen seat and dash to the library with the soda in hand.
"Hey! Where are you going with that drink?" Ron was being ignored as his friend was still running towards the library; not bothered by his friend's loud voice.
"What you're up to now, buddy?" Ron scratches his head as his eyes were still fixed on his friend; whom have entered the library.
'I hope this works…' Pierre eyes were wandering all over the library as he was looking for Sophie.
'Benny said Sophie will stay late at the library every day since she hates to go home to her step family.' Pierre takes a seat in the front row facing the book racks; in hopes to spot her.
"That guy better not be pulling tricks on me." He leans forward as focusing on the shelf there.
"Excuse me… but, aren't you Pierre?" a voice comes from his sides; wakes him from his daze. A girl with a long hair smiles to him; trying to hide her red cheeks
"Ah, yes… I am." His eye continues to wander around the library nonstop.
"Hi, I'm Amanda and I've been admiring you earlier; I was wondering if we…" His gaze suddenly stops at a girl with curly hair and glasses who was struggling to get a book from the top shelf of history section.
"Found you."
"Eh?" Pierre sudden rise from his seat shock Amanda; making her speechless.
"Excuse me, Miss Amanda. I need to get something urgent done; now if you'll excuse me…"
"But We…" Before she could finish her words, Pierre was already rushing towards the history section of the library.
"…Didn't get the chance to chat yet…" Amanda spouts as Pierre was already at the book shelf.
'Here goes nothing…' Pierre takes a deep breath as approaches Sophie who was still trying to get a book from the top shelf section.
"Let me get that for you…"He easily reaches for the book and handed it to her; his sudden approach shock Sophie at first but then; she realize he did help her. So, she just smiles and nod before starts to leave Pierre.
"Is that a thank you?" his words stops her from leaving; she turn again to face him.
"Is that a thank you, Miss…?" She nods before pointing her finger to the name tag on her chest; before lowers her gaze again.
"Ah… right, Miss Sophie… I see you like to read history books; I hope we can be friends in the future." Her gaze were fixed downwards as he speak; but she seems to understand him. as she gazed at him; about to respond to Pierre, she suddenly had a stunned reaction on her and signaling that she have to leave immediately; leaving Pierre there clueless with a soda in his hands.
"What? She leaves you; just like that?" Ron's reaction somehow irritates Pierre more.
"What was that about? It's pretty normal to leave; maybe she just realize she was late for something or someone…" Pierre spouts as he opens up the soda can he bought for Sophie earlier; but never got the chance to give it to her.
"Eh? Is that a sign of jealousy? I though you just met her… how can you be jealous?" Besides, what does she looks like, anyway? I've been curious about that since Jinni brought up about her matter earlier."
"Well… to be exact; she wasn't really a school-belled type of beauty; but I'll admit that she does have some traits that can attracts attention."
"Such as?"
"Her eyes and how she gazes shyly… and her smile, she doesn't look fake and you can somehow felt her sincerity in it."He stares passionately at the soda can in front of him as he speaks; looks as if he was deep in thought.
"Pierre, I think you're actually falling for her…"
"What are you talking about? Stop being nonsense!"
"Denying is another way of escaping the truth… you though me that." A devilish smirk escapes from Ron.
"Tha… that's not the real point here… I still need to approach her later."
"So, what do you got in mind?"
"Maybe …a new alternative? Something more mature and not cliché to any soap opera meet ups."
"You did think of something, don't you?" Instead of answering; Pierre just nod with a warm smile.
"A bet; on me? But, why?" the note that were passed to Pierre actually makes him raises his eyebrow; he thought Sophie was going to get mad at him instead giving him a calm reaction.
Pierre decides to explain everything to her instead of planning to woo her without her knowing it was a bet.
"Jinni told me you were impossible for anyone to have feelings with and I was against that believed. So, I…" before he could explain more, Sophie handed over another note to him.
"It's a bet, right? So, what's the catch?" Her notes makes Pierre chuckle a bit.
"Well, it's actually really a big one; he's putting a bet on his motorcycle exchange with me being his slave for the whole year."
"A whole year? Is it worth it?"
"It is; if it's you…" Sophie just silently smile before handed him another note.
"You got your ways with words… but… I'll let you win this bet."
