(Professor Oak's Lab, Noah's Room.)
It had been a month since Noah had come to this world, he was now packing up his equipment and supplies for the journey ahead. He had spent the past month researching everything related to Pokémon – much to the surprise of this family and taking care of the newly hatched Bagon.
His egg had hatched several weeks ago and the first thing Bagon did was rush into his arms with a loud, sharp roar. This would have usually been fine if not for the impressive force behind the tackle that caused him to tumble down from his bed.
Although he had dipped into several topics about Pokémon, he had focused on two topics in particular. The first was Pokémon health care, this was a given since he was put in charge of raising a newly hatched Bagon, and the second was Pokémon battles. He had watched several recorded tournaments, courtesy of Professor Oak, to understand the spirit of battling.
However, watching matches could only get you so far, and Noah decided to gain some real battling experience. After discussing this problem with his grandfather, the old man recommended that he head out to Route 1 and gain experience but, shouldn't stray too far from Pallet Town, less he wants to get arrested for illegally training Pokémon.
Other than that, Noah had taken some time to get closer to his siblings. He had met Gary the morning after he had awoken from his injuries and was pleasantly surprised to see that he was a fairly decent guy. Well, that was until the Ketchum family came to visit which resulted in him bickering with Ash about who's going to be the 'Pokémon Master' for the rest of the day.
On the other hand, his relationship with Daisy had gotten better than before. He patiently listened to her tales of traveling around the different regions and her encounters with rare Pokémon. Unfortunately, she had to travel back to Hoenn for the Grand Festival.
As Noah reflected on his experiences, he felt a soft thud on his right leg. Looking down at the source, he couldn't help but smile fondly at the Bagon that tried to grab his attention. The guy had been unruly at first – jumping from anything that had the slightest bit of elevation – but began to listen to him as they battled Pokémon and trainers together in Route 1.
"Just a moment buddy, I'm almost finished," Noah spoke gently as he rubbed Bagon's head.
"Bae." Bagon grunted in acknowledgement.
…
(Professor Oak's Lab, Main Lab.)
Noah returned Bagon back to his Pokeball and made his way downstairs. He noticed two trainers already waiting in the lab. Both trainers had the same colored hair and eyes but their genders were different.
"Hey, I'm Noah." Noah introduced himself to the two and offered his hand to the girl standing in front of him.
"It's nice to meet you, Noah. I'm Leaf." The girl shook his hand with a smile and gestured to the trainer standing next to her. "And this here is Red."
'Ahh, to think that I'd run into Red and Leaf this early on.' Noah smiled wryly and extended his hand to Red.
"It's a pleasure." Red nodded as he shook Noah's hand.
"Are you also here to pick up your starter Pokémon?" Leaf asked him with a slightly worried look.
'She must think I'll choose the Pokémon she wanted.' Noah mused as he took out a Pokeball attached to his belt and showed it to the pair in front of him. "No, I'm just here for the Pokedex. I already have my starter right here."
"That's a relief…" Leaf muttered under her breath as Red shook his head at her behavior. The three continued to discuss random topics together until they heard the door of the lab slide open.
Professor Oak walked into the lab and smiled at the three as he made his way to the front of the lab. He observed Red and Leaf in detail, when his gaze fell on Noah, it warmed slightly. He was proud that his grandson had decided to become a Pokémon trainer and even more so when he put in the effort to learn as much as he could before he set off.
"It's good to see that you're all here on time," Oak said as he led the trainers to a glass container that contained three Pokeballs. "The Pokeball to the left is Bulbasaur, the Grass-type Pokémon. The Pokeball in the middle is Charmander, the Fire-type Pokémon and the Pokeball to the right is Squirtle, the Water-type Pokémon. Each of them has their strengths and weaknesses, but a skilled trainer can use any of the three to the best of their abilities. Now, which one of you two is going to choose first?"
Leaf and Red looked at each other for a moment before Leaf stepped forward. She stood in front of the Pokeballs for a moment and reached out to grab the Pokeball on the right. "I've already decided to start with a Squirtle."
Red soon followed after and unhesitatingly chose the Pokeball in the middle. "Charmander for me."
Professor Oak nodded and spoke. "I'm going to give you three a project to work on during your travels. As you know, I have invented a device called the Pokedex. It collects and provides a detailed amount of information on the Pokémon that you scan. Information that includes the Pokémon's species; its height; its weight and its abilities. I want you to three record the Pokémon that you see as this will help me collect and compare data on Pokémon of the same species. The Pokedex also acts as your trainer ID so if you somehow lose it, immediately contact me for a replacement."
After seeing the group nod, Oak gave each trainer their Pokedex and said. "Take a moment to fill in your personal information. In the case that you are reported missing or are in danger, the Pokémon League will use the signal from the Pokedex to find your current location and send the information to a nearby Ranger association to check up on you."
The three nodded and began to type in their personal information. Noah looked at his Pokedex and realized that its design was completely different from that of the other two, but found out why after he started it up. He had been given the National Dex, he had assumed it was because of his Bagon and shrugged it off.
Oak waited for them to update their information and gave the trainers five Pokeballs each. "I assume you all know how to capture Pokémon so I won't go into detail. The largest amount of Pokémon that trainers are permitted to carry with them is six, but this can be overruled should the League deem you competent enough to carry more. For the meantime, should you be at your limit and catch an additional Pokémon, it will be transferred directly to this lab."
After another round of nods, Oak spoke his parting words. "Now it's time for all of you to start your Pokémon journey and I wish you all the best of luck. If you have any troubles throughout your journey, then you can contact me directly and I'll try my best to help you resolve them."
Red and Leaf thanked the professor and turned to Noah. They asked if he wanted to join them on their journey but he politely refused. After trading each other's contact information, Red and Leaf made their way out of the lab.
After seeing them leave, Oak turned to Noah. "I want you to scan your Bagon with the Pokedex, I want to make sure that there are no issues with the National Dex."
"Sure." Noah replied as he released Bagon from his Pokeball and scanned him with the Pokedex.
[Bagon, the Rock Head Pokémon. Bagon harbors a never-ending dream of one day soaring high among the clouds. As if trying to dispel its frustration over its inability to fly, this Pokémon slams its hard head against huge rocks and shatters them into pebbles.
This Bagon is male and knows the moves: Rage, Ember, Bite, Dragon Breath, Headbutt and Dragon Dance. Its ability is Rock Head, which protects the Pokémon from recoil damage.]
"This thing sure is amazing, Gramps." Noah couldn't help but be impressed with the Pokedex's detailed assessment.
"Why of course it is, the Pokedex that I gave you is the latest model." Oak laughed.
"Well, thanks a lot, Gramps." Noah flashed him a wide smile and made his way out of the lab. "I'll see you around then."
Oak stood in contemplation for a moment before he headed outside to feed the Pokémon residing in his Coral.
