Capítulo 3: Cartoons
"Annabelle I need that new series on my desk by 2pm. Printing starts at 4. Hurry."
That's my boss Mr. Newell. He owns and runs the only newspaper business in this county, The Daily Hustle. I currently work for him as a freelance cartoonist. I make the funnies that the kids love.
"Right away Mr. Newell!"
I really appreciate my job. I couldn't ask for a better boss. He treats Elijah and I like his own family. I REALLY don't know what I would have done with out him these past few years.
"How's my favorite boy doing? Did he cry when you left?"
"Oh you know Elijah. He's my brave little soldier. Sometimes I wonder if he really is 5. I swear he acts way older than his age."
"Well Mrs. Newell said to tell y'all to come 'round for supper tonight."
"Elijah would love that."
We live in a small town in the middle of nowhere. Every one knows every one else. Sometimes that gets on my nerves, but other times I am thankful, because if I had been rescued in a big city I would probably be dead by now.
