Lu Lingqi's words managed to attract both Diao Chan and Cai Wenji who looked like wanted to argue with each other, and looking at the worried face etched on Lu Lingqi's caused the two of them to laugh and follow suit by Ying Yue on the side. Seeing this Lu Lingqi was confused as to what had just happened, Ying Yue then explained to Lu Lingqi that the two of them only teased her after seeing her expression which illicit a shout of embarrassment from Lu Lingqi.
Diao Chan and Cai Wenji let out another laugh, their playful teasing bringing a moment of lightheartedness to the group. Ying Yue shook her head with a smile, amused by the antics of her sister-wives. Lu Lingqi, her face still flushed from embarrassment, finally joined in the laughter, her initial confusion giving way to relief.
After the laughter died down, Diao Chan and Cai Wenji gently coaxed Lu Lingqi, assuring her that they were only playing. The conversation then shifted to a more serious and heartfelt topic, which is Diao Chan's pregnancy, now four months along.
"How are you feeling, Sister Diao?" Cai Wenji asked, her voice filled with genuine concern. "Is there any food you crave or anything that we can get for you?"
Lu Lingqi nodded in agreement with Cai Wenji's words. "Yes, Sister Diao, please tell us if there is anything you need. Husband would definitely blame us if there's something happened to you."
Diao Chan smiled warmly, appreciating the concern of her sister-wives. "I have been feeling well, thank you. There are times when I crave certain fruits and sweets, but overall, I am managing fine. There's no need to bring me something for now."
Ying Yue, who had studied under Hua Tuo and learned the basics of medicine, gently took hold of Diao Chan's left hand. "Let me check your pulse," she said, focusing intently as she assessed Diao Chan's condition and the health of the baby.
A few moments later, Ying Yue smiled reassuringly. "Your pulse is strong, and everything seems to be in good condition. Both you and the baby are healthy, just ensure that Sister Diao gets enough rest, eats nutritious food, and drinks your tonic."
Diao Chan sighed in relief, grateful for Ying Yue's expertise. "Thank you, Ying Yue. It's fortunate that you learned under Master Hua Tuo, the knowledge you have now is truly invaluable for us here."
Ying Yue smiled modestly. "I am glad to be of help, Sister Diao. We must ensure that you and the baby remain healthy and safe. If there is anything you need, please do not hesitate to ask."
Cai Wenji and Lu Lingqi nodded in agreement, their bond strengthened by their mutual care and support. They knew that their roles extended beyond simply being Lie Fan's wives, they were a family, united in their love for each other and their shared responsibility for the well-being of their household.
In Taipei, the atmosphere within the Governor's Castle was tense as Yang Hong and Yan Jun pored over the latest reports from their scouts and Oriole agents. The intelligence that had been gathered painted a clear picture for them about the Tono Separatist situation.
Yang Hong's brow furrowed as he read the scout report. "The Tono separatist headquarters is located deep inside the jungle to the north. They have a population of around 100,000, with 20,000 to 35,000 of them being soldiers. This will not be an easy fight for us."
Yan Jun nodded, his expression serious. "We had expected as much. But we also have good news. The Oriole agents have confirmed that the Tono separatists inside Taipei have been eradicated. We've also rooted out their sympathizers and those secretly supporting them, meaning that Taipei is secure for now."
Yang Hong looked up from the reports, a glint of determination in his eyes. "We must act swiftly and decisively. The Tono separatists in the jungle pose a significant threat. We cannot allow them to regroup and launch an attack on Taipei."
Yan Jun agreed. "We need to prepare our forces for a coordinated strike. We should also consider asking the Oriole agents to infiltrate their ranks and gather more intelligence to understand their plans and weaknesses which will be crucial."
Yang Hong nodded. "Agreed. We should also send word to Our Lord about our findings and our intended course of action as he needs to be aware of the situation here in Taipei."
As they strategized, Yang Hong and Yan Jun meticulously planned their next steps. They would mobilize their troops, ensuring they were well-prepared for the difficult terrain of the jungle.
At the same time, they would leverage their Oriole agents to sow confusion and gather critical intelligence from within the separatist ranks, something that would take some time.
The stakes were high, but the successful eradication of the Tono separatists within Taipei had bolstered their confidence. With the right strategy and coordination, they believed they could overcome the separatist stronghold and bring lasting peace to the region.
Yang Hong and Yan Jun, recognizing the importance of solidifying their plans, invited Li Feng, Ling Cao, and Gan Ning to a strategy meeting. The five men gathered in the Governor Castle's main hall, where maps and intelligence reports spread out at the table before them.
Yang Hong began, "We've received detailed reports from our scouts and Oriole agents. The Tono separatist headquarters is deep in the jungle to the north. They have a substantial population, with a significant number of soldiers."
Yan Jun continued, "We need to devise a plan that leverages our strengths and takes into account the challenging terrain. Admiral Gan Ning, your experience with naval operations and unconventional warfare will be crucial. General Li Feng and Ling Cao, your strategic insight will help us coordinate our forces effectively."
Gan Ning nodded, his eyes scanning the map. "We can use the river systems to our advantage, launching surprise attacks from unexpected directions. Our ships can navigate the waterways, allowing us to strike quickly and retreat before they can mount a proper defense."
As everyone processed what Gan Ning was saying, Ling Cao added, "We should also consider nighttime raids. The jungle offers plenty of cover, and our men are trained for stealth operations. We can disrupt their supply lines and sow chaos within their ranks."
Li Feng, on the other hand, pointed to key locations on the location of the Separatist base. "We need to identify their command centers and key supply points. If we can take out their leaders and cut off their resources, their ability to resist will crumble."
As they discussed their plans, messengers were dispatched to keep Lie Fan informed of their progress. Meanwhile, in the heart of the battle between the Qilin Army against Xiahou Dun and Yu Jin's Army, Lie Fan received a letter detailing the situation in Taipei.
Gathering Jia Xu and Xun You, he shared the contents of the reports. "Our forces in Taipei have eradicated the separatists within Taipei, but they found a significant threat in the jungle to the north of Taipei. Yang Hong and Yan Jun are requesting guidance on their next steps."
Jia Xu, ever the pragmatist, responded first. "My lord, Yang Hong and Yan Jun have proven themselves capable of handling this matter. They are familiar with the terrain and the enemy. We should grant them the autonomy to act as they see fit. Their success so far is a testament to their abilities."
Xun You concurred. "We must trust in their judgment. Providing them the freedom to execute their plans will allow them to adapt quickly to any developments. Our focus here must remain on defeating Xiahou Dun and Yu Jin."
Lie Fan, reassured by their counsel, nodded. "Very well. I will send a reply granting Yang Hong and Yan Jun the authority to proceed as they see fit."
With the decision made, Lie Fan turned his attention back to the battlefield after drafting his reply and sending it to Taipei. As the battle raged on, he knew that every victory, whether in Taipei or against Cao Cao's forces, brought him one step closer to his ultimate goal.
As Lie Fan observed the battlefield, he noticed an unexpected change in the enemy's formation. The previously weak flank in Xiahou Dun and Yu Jin's army suddenly launched a fierce counterattack. The Qilin Army, caught off guard, suffered heavy casualties.
Realizing the trap, Lie Fan quickly issued new orders. "Retreat! Pull back our forces from the flank immediately!" His voice carried over the chaos, commanding attention, and swift action.
Jia Xu and Xun You, standing nearby, exchanged concerned glances. Jia Xu muttered, "Xiahou Dun and Yu Jin have been more cunning than we anticipated. We must regroup and reassess our strategy."
The Qilin Army soldiers on the affected flank began to fall back, their disciplined retreat preventing further losses. Despite the setback, their resolve remained unbroken.
Lie Fan turned to Jia Xu and Xun You. "We need to stabilize our lines and prepare for a counter-strategy. We mustn't underestimate Xiahou Dun and Yu Jin again."
Xun You nodded. "We'll need to exploit their newfound confidence. Perhaps a feigned retreat could draw them into a vulnerable position. They may overextend, thinking they have the upper hand."
Jia Xu added, "Indeed. We should also consider launching surprise attacks from other angles. We must ensure that the element of surprise must work in our favor this time."
Lie Fan listened intently, formulating a new plan according to their suggestions. "Let's redeploy our troops strategically. We will lure them into a false sense of victory and then strike with full force. Wenhe, coordinate the retreat and reposition our units, and Gongda, prepare our reserves for a decisive counterattack."
As the orders were relayed, the Qilin Army moved with precision. The initial chaos of the retreat turned into a calculated maneuver, drawing Xiahou Dun and Yu Jin's forces into a precarious position. The enemy, emboldened by their apparent success, pursued aggressively, unaware of the trap being set for them.
Lie Fan, observing from his command post, felt a surge of confidence. The next phase of the battle would be crucial, and he was determined to turn the tide in their favor.
Back on the battlefield, the Qilin Army's retreat led Xiahou Dun and Yu Jin's forces deeper into a vulnerable position. As the enemy pressed forward, the Qilin Army's reserves, hidden until now, began to mobilize.
Lie Fan's command echoed through the ranks. "Prepare to counterattack! On my signal, we strike with everything we have!"
The soldiers, now positioned for the final phase of the battle, steeled themselves for the impending clash. The tension was palpable, every warrior ready to give their all for victory.
As Xiahou Dun and Yu Jin's forces advanced, unaware of the imminent threat, Lie Fan raised his hand, signaling the beginning of their counteroffensive. The Qilin Army, with renewed vigor and strategic positioning, launched a ferocious assault. The battlefield erupted in a cacophony of steel and shouts as the Qilin Army surged forward, catching the enemy off guard.
