The fungus began to shake and with it the world around me. As if it was screaming in pain the fungus twisted and started to make a sound. The ground split and from its white appendages shoot out, attaching themselves to the ground. The fungus calmed down, and silence fell upon the city again.
'GHEEUGHHH!'
An unnatural scream spread from the hole. Taking a few steps back I looked at the figure emerging from within. With the shape of a wolf, no skin, and muscles in a uniform white color. Its head had two black spots where eyes should've been and mouth that was filled with white bony fangs.
With a low growl it stepped towards me, my soul image fully manifested and ready to fight it.
Blink. I blinked once and when I opened my eyes the monster was centimeters away from me with its teeth's aiming for my neck!
I moved as fast I could to grab the monsters head before it got any closer. I put my hand in the way of the monster's mouth, and when the sharp fangs clamped down on my soul image, they priced through it and stopped when they enter my flesh.
I could feel the pressure the monster's jaws were exerting, I could tell that if not for my soul image that one bite would've been enough to rip my arm off.
I punched the monster with my free hand trying to get it away from me, but none of them worked. It felt like I was hitting a pillow as if the monster was made of feathers.
I used a soul sword to cut it and only then did it let go of my arm. I moved back with a few quick backsteps and repaired the soul image on my arm. Blood was dripping and gathering inside of my Soul Image, my breath fast and heavy, and beads of sweat gathering on my forehead.
The cut on the monster was clearly visible, but there was no blood, no sorts of liquid dripping from it. Cut fibers inside of the wound wiggled and moved attaching themselves back, repairing the injury.
The monster, with a low growl, moved! Faster then before it attacked with its paws, from them, claws grew out and slashed at my chest. Dodging its attack was close to impossible, and with each strike my soul image would be ripped apart, saving me from being shred to pieces.
Retreating while trying to attack the monster was the most tiring experience in my life. But the monster like a robot just continued on with his job and kept attacking me. At this point, I slashed it hundreds of times, but each and one of them healed in the matter of second.
With no other choice, I summoned the black feather and start assaulting the monster with it! It passed through it like butter, there was no resistance and each time it passed through it a hole that would begin to heal almost immediately was left.
Ten, twenty, hundred times the black feather with almost sonic speed would get through the monster. Its legs were cut off, and he could move, but as they kept growing back, I had to keep cutting them off.
I summoned two more black feathers and continued to attack the monster from a distance and finally after dozens of minutes and hundreds of attacks the healing slow downed and stopped.
At this point, the corpse looked like it went through a grinder and was then chewed up again. I went up closer to it and looked at the material it was made from all of it was uniform, and even the fangs and claws seemed to be made from the same stuff.
I poked it with my finger and the jaw that was more or less still in shape moved. This thing was still alive! Using my Soul Sword, I dismembered it further not wanting to see it heal. I wanted to burn it, but there was nothing I could use it to put it on fire, so I had to settle with that.
Lesson to remember, don't touch the Fungus.
Checking on my wounds, I saw that they stopped bleeding and a scab, my heart calmed down, and the sweat dried off. I could sigh a breath of relief.
'Gheeughh!'
From far away a scream came, sounding identical to the one the monster I just killed made I was sure it was another one of its kind.
'Gheeughh!'
'Gheeughh!'
'Gheeughh!'
And it wasn't alone.
Three days. Or I think it was three days. I kept running and running, avoiding these monsters as much as possible, but it looked like I woke up a hive. Hundreds of them were patrolling the streets, and with food enough, for only a few more days I was in big trouble.
The only blessing was that I found water! Dripping from a stalactite that was far up, I dripped onto the roof of a building I was hiding currently. If not for that I would've died from dehydration in a day or two.
In the past three days, I tried to think what kind of monster I was… but even though I read dozens of encyclopedism about monsters, I could think of even one that was remotely similar to this one.
Made out of uniform material, which was not only light but also durable. Incredible speed and strength, with a body the size of a regular wolf. No reproductive organs, to be precise there is no organs, no ears; thus it can't hear, but I can react to big movements of air and tremors. It has a pair of what appears to be very basic eyes that can only discern if smoothing is moving or not.
But the moment it locks onto you, it is either you or him dying.
This situation was troublesome. Troublesome… I was stuck surrounded by bloodthirsty monsters with no idea where the exit is, running out of food, and only able to move a few buildings at the time in a city that starches for a few kilometers. Troublesome.
