The strongest experts around Ning'Er heard her urgent cry and flashed towards the five locations that she had sensed the actions of the considerably stronger demon beasts a moment ago. As they approached those points, they could already see the soldiers in those areas being massacred as another two trebuchets were smashed to pieces.
They did not have time to strategically match up with the type of beasts they would find but would have to rely on luck as they flashed towards these unknown beasts of fearsome power.
Ning'Er landed in the middle of a section filled with human blood and body parts, face to face with an Abyss Bear that was nonchalantly holding the torn off leg of a now-deceased soldier, munching on the fleshy meat found at the thigh area. This demon beast excelled in physical attacks the most, and similar to Du Ze's Scarlet Flame Bear, had a terrifying raw strength and tough external defence.
Ye Zong levitated on top of an entire section of the wall that was covered in what looked like massive spiderwebs built with a whitish rope-like material. He was able to fly using his clan's secret Traceless Snow Wind Technique that allowed the family's Legend Ranked experts to effortlessly walk on the air as though they were on solid ground. His eyes narrowed as he recognised the material of the cobwebs because his City Lord's Mansion had made ropes and equipment from it. The silk of the Icy Snow Spider!
Ye Xiu arrived just as two soldiers jumped off the wall in fear of the Scarlet Demonic Leopard that was roaring at them. They were the last two left alive of the unit at that section and preferred to risk breaking their legs by jumping from the wall than face this berserk beast.
The Silver Flash would face off against a mysterious insect demon beast, the Snow Wind Spiritual Worm, and he felt his blood boil as he opted to merge immediately with his Wind Spirit Beast demon spirit, which specialised in incredible speed and mobility.
Lastly, Yang Xin led a team consisting of Duan Jian, Linjian, Ziyun and Du Ze to confront the final Legend Ranked demon beast, the dreaded Snow Wind Great Ape, which was extremely well-balanced in the different aspects of physical strength and agility, intelligence and combat capabilities. Although this group of five were all merely at early Black Gold Rank, Duan Jian's physical body was able to defend against a Legend Ranked enemy, and the formations they had practiced as a team should allow them to hold out for awhile against this dangerous foe.
Nie Li and Lu Piao were not with them because they were assigned to the Northern border, where their families were assigned to defend due to their connection to the Elixir Sect. The other three of Zhang Ming, Xiangjun and Wei Nan were still at Gold Rank and were unable to make the leap to fight against a Legend Ranked opponent. They would continue to support in the fighting against the less powerful demon beasts still climbing up and swarming the Southern wall.
.....
Ning'Er stared warily at the powerful Abyss Bear in front of her. Although it appeared to be standing there lazily with no sense of urgency to attack her, she had her entire body tensed to evade if the monster lunged at her. It would only take one solid attack to land for her to be incapacitated, but she knew that most of the abilities she had at her disposal would not be able to break through its defences.
She was completely confident in her speed and agility being able to dominate in this match up, but she would need to be able to carry out a strike of immense power in order to penetrate its defence. At the same time, she would rather not drag out the fight in order to wear down her opponent's stamina if she could help it, because she was worried about her comrades.
What if any of them encountered a particularly bad match up in terms of abilities and type of beast?
An old looking, rusty and ancient sword appeared in her hand. In terms of pure destructive power, the divine artifact in her hand would be able to carry out individual strikes even greater strength than her two star Legend Rank Panterran could unleash with a fully charged electricity blast from its mouth!
In those short moments, Ning'Er had been telepathically communicating with Ye Yan's spirit within the Thunder God's Meteorite Sword.
"Ancestor, any ideas? This is a true blue Legend Ranked beast specialising in raw, physical strength and defence. How do we break through?"
He responded, "It's hard to know how tough its defences are at this moment. How about we try similar tactics to when we fought the Winged Lightning Dragon?"
Ancestor Ye Yan didn't need to explain anymore as Ning'Er knew exactly what he meant. She began to smoothly chain motions together as though it had always been part of the strategy.
In a sudden motion that was completely different from the few seconds of standstill earlier, she threw three smoke bombs onto the ground around her to obscure the sight of the Abyss Bear. Then she threw the Thunder Meteorite's Sword forwards as forcefully as she could through the smoke.
In the same instant, she transformed into Panterran form, lunged six feet to the left and shot a powerful lightning blast out of her mouth. Without missing a moment, she dashed forward as low as she could through the smoke.
Halfway towards the dangerous demon beast in front of her, the smoke broke and she saw that the bear had barely evaded the sword, but that the condensed ball of black energy had smashed against its shoulder, leaving painful singe marks. However, the blast had clearly not broken through the skin or done any significant damage.
While the beast was still distracted by the two projectiles, the Panterran released another blast from its mouth from a lowered position, which shot directly into the torso of its foe. It then pulled in its back legs close to its body as it approached the bear, and jumped upwards with all its might, slashing its lethal claws in an attempt rake through the bear's chest.
The Abyss Bear's strength was not its speed and these rapid attacks coming from different angles was not something it was used to facing. The lightning strike on its shoulder had made it stumble to the side and while it was still looking for its opponent, the second blast had already struck it right in the middle of its torso.
It roared in rage but felt a sudden sense of danger as a flash of black suddenly flew right in front of its eyes. The beast jerked back its upper body to try evade and just managed to lift one of its enormous arms to absorb the majority of the Panterran's full force slash.
Another roar was thrown out by the bear but this time in pain. The Panterran's claws had finally broken through some of its enormously tough fur, and a few streaks of blood could be seen. In complete fury, it swung both its arms out in front of it to destroy the irritating opponent in front.
Although Ning'Er had already been moving away the moment her attack hit, she still felt the terrifying force of the bear's strike as the accompanying wind triggered by the swing of the bear's arms whipped at her face.
The Panterran landed nimbly fifteen feet away from the bear, safely outside of melee range. The Abyss Bear roared once more in arrogance as though shouting out that her best attacks had barely left any scratches or injuries on it. But right at that moment, Ning'Er thought to herself.
'Now.'
In the instant, the Thunder God's Meteorite Sword swerved in from the bear's blind spot, targeting the side of its neck to try to hit a vital point. The bear didn't even flinch, not knowing that the weapon which had missed could possibly be sentient and fly back by itself to deliver a death blow.
The sword flew in with deadly force, having built up considerable speed while Ning'Er was distracting the beast. The bear's proud roar was cut short as the sword plunged into the side of its neck, and it suddenly choked and whimpered in surprise.
However, the sword only managed to enter in two inches before the Abyss Bear twisted its body away from the trajectory of the sword and the weapon spun away, grazing a shallow line across the neck.
Although blood began leaking out of the wounds on the beast, it was not pouring out the way it would have if the sword had hit a major artery or blood vessel. The bear placed one paw on its neck and stared at the Panterran, with a cold fury simmering in its eyes. It had taken this battle rather nonchalantly, believing that no opponent could match its incredible physical prowess.
From this point, it would not be careless anymore and Ning'Er had not even caused any significant injuries on it yet even after catching it completely by surprise.
"Ancestor! What do you think?" she telepathically screamed out.
"We hit it with our three most powerful attacks and it barely has a scratch on it. Unless, you can put some distance between you and build up incredible momentum while holding this sword, you don't have any hope of breaking its insanse defence! And there's no way that it's going to just stand there while you dive at it from a distance." Ye Yan replied.
"I have one cricket bomb left...do you think..." she asked.
"Looking at the way our attacks have landed, it will at most cause a small injury. The weakness of the cricket bomb is that if an opponent is able to withstand the initial shock and keep moving, it can drag itself out of the static attack range before the full effect has happened." He had analysed the effects of the last time she had used the cricket bomb on the clone of the Winged Lightning Dragon.
The Panterran growled under its breath, the silent rumbling in its throat indicating its nervousness directed at the extraordinarily powerful beast in front of it. Ning'Er suddenly felt a sense of fear for her comrades around her. If this was the strength of a Legend Ranked demon beast, how long would they be able to hold out?
In her desperation, she suddenly recalled the phenomenal destructive pillars of lightning that Nie Li had channeled from the Thunder God's Meteorite Sword to defeat the Abyss Demon the Dark Guild had summoned in her previous life.
If she could recreate that effect, it would undoubtedly pierce through the Abyss Bear's outstanding defences. But where was she going to find enough lightning energy for the divine sword to absorb?
This made me think of Naruto when different individual battles took place with each of Orochimaru's minions. I wonder if I can write out that kind of simultaneous battle scenario in an interesting way...
