Capítulo 64: The Party

Hearing Jade's words, Patrick could not help but feel touch. Although he knew Jade was someone who often put others before herself, it did not diminish the warmth that came when she was worrying over him.

After all, training a new employee was often a costly endeavor, so employers tended to keep the staff count low and stick to trained, experienced employees if possible.

So, when he heard asking about his schooling, he knew that she truly was looking out for him.

"I don't start college until October, so I can work whenever," Patrick replied. "And even when I do start, lectures are only in the morning, so I can work most afternoons and evenings."

"Hmm." Jade thought for a moment before replying. "Okay, if it's alright with you, I'll open up and do the lunch shift, then you can do later afternoon and evenings. Obviously, that's when you're more experienced. For now, can you do about 11AM to 6PM?"

"That's fine with me," Patrick said with a smile. He blushed and added, "I'll work hard so that I can help you more."

After saying that, he rushed to the door. "I'll go check on the party."

Jade chuckled at his awkward attitude before frowning. 'The original reason I wanted to get another person was to help with the rushes, since they're too much for one person. Oh well, we'll see how this goes for now. We can always find someone else later.'

When Jade went back out into the cafe's front area, she saw Harriet helping herself to a coffee behind the counter. Alan was leaning against the counter from the other side, his head in his hands, just gazing at her profile with a pure smile on his face.

While Jade knew she should not interrupt a sweet moment like that, she could not stop herself—damn happy couples.

"What do you think you're doing?! Only employees should be behind the counter! As I recall, your employment here ended at lunch."

Harriet whipped her head around before noticing the mocking smile on Jade's face.

"What the hell? You scared the life out of me," she said as she pushed Jade's shoulder playfully.

At the side, Alan was laughing at them. "You two really do get along well. I almost feel sorry for splitting up such a great team."

"Well, it's not like we won't come back," Harriet replied. "We won't be living that far away."

There was a weird expression on Alan's face, but that seemed to disappear almost the instant it appeared. "Sure… sure, we will."

Jade noticed it but thought nothing of it. "You'll be looking for a job as well, won't you? If you find one that's near here, you could always pop in after work one day."

'Oh yeah, I haven't even looked for a job yet." Harriet put on a jokey ditzy expression, and Jade berated her for not planning her future seriously.

"I've told you before," Alan said, "you're not getting a job. You just need to enjoy yourself at home and live like a princess."
