"Avery" she heard her name again, turning to where the voice was coming from, she saw who had called her.
It was Javon Smith her ex, they were once close to getting married, but he had an opportunity to intern at a very big company abroad, it was a life changing opportunity too, if he decided to go it'd be a very big stepping stone in his career, so after they talked about it, he went, it was fun and exciting at first, they both called each other every single day after waking up and before going to bed, it had become a routine too.
But a few months later she stopped hearing from him, his lines stopped going through, and when she looked for him online he told her to go away, it was the same time, she had been called that her mother had died. She was so devastated and she felt so alone that she did all she knew how to do best when she was in a bad situation, she cried, castigated herself, then she changed her environment.
She moved away, leaving behind everything and started working as a waitress in the new state she moved to, that was where she met Belle, who was her co-worker.
It was unbelievable that he was here, she spent so long doubting herself and always insulting herself, saying she should have been better, she should have done better. But her thinking changed when she met Belle.
"Ave?" He called out her name out of surprise, when he saw her respond, he moved to hug her.
"What do you think you're doing?" She asked dodging his incoming hug.
" Ave I can explain... " He started but she didn't let him finish
"Explain what exactly I waited for you, I looked for you, and you weren't even there when my mom died, you weren't there to comfort me" she said saying her words one by one, her lips trembled, and her eyes burned as she tried to keep her tears at bay.
"Okay, where do you stay I'll drive you home and we can talk about it" he said.
"No, you're not, there's nothing to talk about" she retorted.
" What do yo.." he was about to say something when she replied
"No, and that's it, no arguments".
Knowing the kind of person she was he knew better than to argue, so he complied, but not wanting to be separated again.
"Can I get your number at least?" He asked.
Without thinking about it she instantly answered,
"No".
And she left without saying another word.
He watched as she left the building and as she left him.
