Capítulo 434: Do something Giselle!

Giselle was sure that she heard some racket coming from outside. She didn't pay much attention to it at first, but as soon as she noticed the noise risk barging through the door, she ran to check quickly. Giselle opened the door to find a dumbfounding sight of Lillian Grey barely hanging from Diego's grasp.

Diego was trying to ask Lillian for the key, but the woman was completely drunk to respond. Instead, she fought to get away from him. As soon as Lillian became aware that she was in the taxi with Diego, she started throwing her fist at him. No matter how many times Diego mentioned that he was only helping her get home safely, Lillian didn't care and kept attacking him.

Diego knew he deserved this cold treatment, but seeing how their little bantering started to raise a fuss, he wanted to find a solution quickly to get Lillian inside her apartment. Just as the two battled, Diego finally noticed the door opening, and to his surprise, he met Giselle.

For a moment, Diego stopped guarding against Lillian's endless attacks. He never expected to see Giselle coming out of Lillian's apartment. Both remained speechless from the accidental encounter.

"You- live- here?" Diego asked as he was the first one to break the silence.

Contrary to how she had always felt under this man's presence, Giselle was relieved to find herself not scared of him anymore. Not because Lillian was there, but she had confessed all that she had kept hidden deep in her heart. She was no longer feeling vulnerable to his threats anymore.

Giselle realized how simple it was to overcome all that trauma. Something so trivial yet tough to execute. Nevertheless, it wasn't easy to overcome as Giselle still kept her guard up at this man.

"Yes," she answered to his curiosity.

"Let.Go.Of.Me.Asshol- Giselle!" Lillian finally recognized returning home.

"Lillian!" Giselle cried.

"I'll hold her," she added to extend her hand as Diego realized he was only returning Lillian home safely. Seeing how there was someone to welcome and take care of her, his heart stung from feeling how he became a stranger in this scene. Diego wasn't able to digest it easily. He delivered Lillian to Giselle with a heavy heart as the drunken woman kept throwing insults at him.

Lillian's heavily intoxicated state was too much to handle by Giselle since soon she witnessed Lillian slip from her grip. Diego caught her before she fell to the floor. It wasn't easy to carry the sloppy woman, especially at that moment when Giselle had exerted herself both physically and mentally. She was only able to put up an upfront until Lillian returned. But seeing the state in which Lillian had come home, Giselle conceded that she couldn't handle this alone. She opened the door as Diego helped Lillian get inside. He put her on the couch while Giselle stood and watched him tend to Lillian. She wasn't furious or feeling jealous because she had just heard something overwhelmingly worrisome about her daughter. Giselle looked drenched in despair.

Diego left Lillian to sleep on the couch and informed Giselle to take care of her. It was his time to go, but for the few minutes he had spent inside, Diego could see the transformation of the whole place. And that pricked his feelings again. He wanted to leave at once, but something stopped him from walking out. Lillian's words back at the bar kept him bothered all along. He couldn't just leave, turning a blind eye. He hated himself for feeling this way, especially when it involved Lillian Grey. He had turned a blind eye for years, but ever since going to the therapy, Diego learned how his ignorance eventually became the trigger to his ill intentions against the people he cared for.

Diego never wanted to see or talk to Giselle, but because he got reminded of how Lillian looked distressed back at the bar, he couldn't overlook these pesky feelings boiling inside him.

"I know I'm in no position to meddle between you two. Also, I am the last person you would want to hear this from, but-" Diego paused to compose himself before continuing.

"It looks like Lillian's worried," he revealed to seize Giselle's attention.

"About you two- and especially your- little girl!" Diego added, all while trying to look as if he couldn't care less when it was the opposite.

"This is what I kept telling her all these years! And this is exactly why I was always against her decision to be with you. It's- just unacceptable. For her to go through all these criticisms herself and not have a moment of peace in her life? What does she do in her past life to suffer like this? You two being together won't be easy as you think, or at least- Why suffer like this when she could have been happier with m-"

Diego was about to include himself in his ranting, but he stopped finishing his sentence as Giselle was standing right in front of him, looking exactly like Lillian, except worse than her. Diego understood how it never only included Lillian but both. He took a deep breath a couple of times, cooling his head before choosing to address the issue.

He can't have him act selfishly anymore. The day when Lillian chose to end her friendship with him, Diego realized he was defeated. And that he couldn't do anything to keep this act going. Lillian would never fall for him, and she had always yearned for Giselle. If that was the end result, there was no use in provoking himself with his delusion. This realization doesn't mean he is willing to accept Giselle because he cannot, not so easily. It would hurt his pride to get along with this woman. Besides, for all the things he had done to her and Lillian's reaction, Diego could never face Giselle with ease.

It was already late when they reached her place. Seeing how fast time flew, Diego didn't want to overstay his welcome.

"You better do something to make her happy!" he raged out in frustration.

"Didn't you say that you loved her more than me? Then, prove it with your actions. Do something or anything! Don't let her leave like this. She tends to hold her feelings inside, so you better do something or else I will-"

Giselle didn't let him finish as she agreed instinctively.

"I will!"

It startled Diego to see her standing up with him without losing herself. All of their previous encounters involved risks and so on. But looking at her now, it appeared that she had overcome the fears, or at least she was trying to be brave.

Diego didn't say another word but left the apartment. Before he walked out that door, he stopped himself once again. He didn't turn to face Giselle but ever so faintly apologized for all this time.

If it was the day, there could have been chances where Giselle couldn't catch those words. But because this was in the dead of night, she heard him clear. It jolted her at first simply because it wasn't a child's bullying she had gone through before. This man was the cause of her trauma, for everything. For him to say sorry couldn't heal the pain she experienced.

"I can never forgive you, Diego!" Giselle uttered in a trembling tone.

"That's fine. I know that already."

"Exactly! I could never forgive you even if I try to, but-"

That pause put Diego at the end of a cliff as he anxiously waited.

"But you were Lillian's best friend. I have no intention of convincing her to forgive you. However, someday, I hope you two can-"

"Thanks," Diego replied.

"I knew you were always like this. Kinder than me! Probably that's why I- could never accept you standing next to Lillian. Yeah, I really hope, someday, I will get a second chance to be friends with her again," he bitterly added.

"Goodbye, Giselle!"

Diego soon disappeared.

Giselle returned to Lillian's side and sat down next to her. Lillian was fast asleep, so Giselle just gently stroked her hair. All kinds of thoughts ran inside her head as the two people she cared so much about were heartbroken. To her great shock, she did agree to Diego's ranting. Two women or even two men being together had always been difficult for society to accept.

Giselle was exhausted from having to live in secret. She no longer wished to be accepted by anyone other than the people she considered family. For the sake of her newfound home, which included both Lia and Lillian together, she had to make a decision that would carry hope and return peace to Lia's school life while never making Lillian worry again.
