"Demon Lord, Gatekeeper of the Void. Give us your report."
The eerie room was filled with grotesque appearances. None like the other, the demon lords sat on a round stone table. Among them, a lone chair had been empty. Next to that empty chair, an intimidating demon clad in complete pure black armor rose up. Fog leaked out from his figure. Glowing blue light emitted out from the pitch darkness from the eye socket of his helmet. None in this room could make fun of his appearance as they secretly admired his sinister presence. Although with his intimidating appearance, he fell short in strength compared to the cute loli beast kin sitting on his other side. Every month the demon lords have met to give a report on the current situation to each other.
"The Void remains the same as always."
The voice echoed out of his helmet. After giving the same answer for centuries, he had become belligerent. He was a demon in charge of preventing intrusion into an ancient temple in what the humans called The Land of Old.
"None of us know why but our grand fathers told us to prevent it from letting it open at all cost."
The demon in charge had tried to soften the blow by implying there was some sort of importance. Without taking heed to the empty words, the gatekeeper of the void pondered what could possible be in it. Every year that passed, his curiosity grew as he silently resented his luck. Wanting to gain strength, he needed to take countless of souls but being stuck on this duty he had not progressed. Perhaps the older generations tried to divert them from something that contained an immense power up in the locked temple.
Hundred of years passed and he had no idea what he was protecting. It had frustrated him that no book gave much information on the temple he protected. The only book that was helpful was a book he read a couple of months ago that he had acquired from an abandon small church
mentioning that it took a royalty from the Golden Empire to open it up. The Golden Empire royalty had been born with a tattoo. This tattoo was the keys to the locked door. The thing that frustrated him was that the foolish humans had retaliated against the Golden Empire a few years ago and eradicated that lineage. He could no longer obtain the key to open up the temple.
While other demons reaped the rewards from pillaging the living, he had been stuck on this duty. He had mainly been assigned this task since he was one of the weakest junior demon lords at the time and ever since then they shoved it off onto him. He had rarely came in contact with the living thus he was never truly exposed to constant dangers. From his time when he was born to now, the people who sat at the table had been completely different.
"Is that so..."
Every time they mentioned that his task was important he shrugged it off, masking his immense anger beneath a nonchalant attitude.
The loli beast kin had interjected herself into the conversation.
"From the intel gathered from my beast servants, the humans know our supreme being is soon to be coming into this world. They're preparing to dwindle our numbers before that happens."
"Then that must means they will invade our newly constructed fortress on the way. This is interesting, send a representative from each demon lord to witness these foolish humans."
The head of the meeting always changed since they were the first to likely be killed off by adventurers. Regardless, the demons had to obey from the head family.
The demon lords gave approval to the demand. Unsatisfied toward his situation, the gatekeeper silently clenched his fist.
